Background: Previous studies have demonstrated that ultrasonographic measurement of the inferior vena cava diameter is a useful tool for the evaluation of intravascular volume status in preoperative patients. However, ultrasonographic measurement of inferior vena cava diameter could be limited by factors including obesity, bowel gas, or complex abdominal wounds. Our study sought to determine whether subclavian vein (SCV) diameter measured by ultrasound correlate with central venous pressure (CVP), as another indicator of intravascular volume status in patients undergoing gastrointestinal surgery.

Prestroke glycemic status is associated with the functional outcome in spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage.

Admission hyperglycemia is thought to be related to poor neurological function and high mortality in patients with spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage (sICH). However, it is not known whether prestroke glycemic status affects functional outcome of sICH. The study was aimed to disclose the association between prestroke glycemic status and outcome in patients with sICH.

The objective of the present study was to search for Msh homeobox 1 (MSX1), paired box gene 9 (PAX9), ectodysplasin‑A (EDA) and axis inhibition protein 2 (AXIN2) variants in a family with isolated oligodontia and analyse the pathogenesis of mutations that result in oligodontia phenotypes. Members of a single family (but of different descent) with oligodontia and unrelated healthy controls were enrolled in our study. Genomic DNA was isolated from blood samples.

Background And Purpose: Stroke system of care plays key roles both in providing effective therapies and in improving the overall outcome of patients with stroke. Our purpose was to develop and evaluate the system in Chinese rural areas.

Methods: A stroke system of care was developed from November 2009 to November 2010 in 3 townships in Ganyu County.

[Valacyclovir as an adjunct to full-mouth scaling and root planing of advanced chronic periodontitis:a randomized clinical trail].

Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical benefit of valacyclovir when performing full-mouth periodontal debridement in patients with advanced chronic periodontitis.

Methods: Fifty-nine patients with advanced chronic periodontitis were randomly assigned into control-treatment group(n=29) and intensive-treatment group(n=30). All patients were given instructions of basic oral hygiene and a standard cycle of supragingival mechanical scaling and polishing.

Objectives: Oligodontia is defined as the congenital absence of 6 or more permanent teeth excluding the third molar. Tooth agenesis may be classified as syndromic/non-syndromic and as familial/sporadic. To date, more than 300 genes have been found to be involved in tooth development, but only a few of these genes, such as MSX1, PAX9 and AXIN2, are related to the condition of non-syndromic oligodontia.

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the presence of apoptosis of periodontium cells in streptozototocin- and ligature-induced experimental diabetic periodontitis in rats.

Materials And Methods: Sixty-two 6-week-old male Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were randomly divided into three groups: the diabetic periodontitis group (group DP; n = 22), periodontitis group (group P; n = 20) and normal control group (group N; n = 20). Diabetes was induced by intraperitoneal injection of streptozototocin (STZ).

[Statistical study on correlation between cerebral arteriovenous malformation and hemodynamic aneurysms].

Objective: to explore the characteristic factors of arteriovenous malformation (AVM) which have statistically significant correlation with hemodynamic aneurysms.

Methods: from August 1999 to July 2009, the clinical and imaging indices of 363 consecutive patients with AVM were retrospectively reviewed and entirely statistically analyzed. There were 229 male patients and 137 female patients, the mean age at the time of presentation was 28 ± 13 years.

Could MTA be a novel medicine on the recurrence therapy for GCTB?

Giant cell tumor of bone (GCTB) is a benign locally aggressive bone tumor with a shown clinical behavior of local recurrences and rare distant metastases. Surgical treatment of GCTB is associated with high morbidity, and local recurrence. Due to the high rate of pulmonary metastases recurrent GCTB may be considered as a severe disease.

Inhibition of Behcet's disease by calcitonin.

Behcet's disease (BD) is a chronic, multisystem inflammatory disorder characterized by relapsing oral aphthous and genital ulcers, ocular inflammation, erythemanodosum and folliculitis-like lesions of the skin, arthritis, and central nervous system involvement. Its pathogenesis has not been fully elucidated but the etiology is accepted to be multifactorial, therefore the treatment of Behcet's disease continues to be a major therapeutic challenge. The identification of novel therapeutic agents for the treatment of these disorders is important.

[The study on the value of the decompression to the optic nerve channel for the optic atrophy patients].

Method: Sixteen patients were diagnosed as optic nerve atrophy by examining the sight, eye base and VEP. There were no occupied lesion in the eye, nose sinus and the intracranial through the CT examination.
