Diabetes Metab Syndr Obes

October 2024

Clinical Laboratory, People's Hospital of Yuxi City, the Sixth Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University, Yuxi City, Yunnan Province, People's Republic of China.

Article Synopsis
  • The study explores how to effectively predict insulin resistance (IR) in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients, focusing on sex-specific measurements.
  • It compares three ratios: waist to hip circumference (WHR), visceral fat area to hip circumference (VHR), and visceral fat area to subcutaneous fat area (VSR) to identify the best predictor.
  • Results showed VHR is the most reliable index for predicting IR in both males and females, with significant odds ratios indicating higher risk associated with higher VHR tertiles.

December 2023

Department of Anesthesiology, The Third Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University, Yunnan Cancer Hospital, Yunnan Cancer Center, Kunming, China.

Background: Currently, drug-induced liver injury (DILI) has become one of those public issues in society, which has added a huge burden to both the individuals and the society. In the current clinical stage, there are numerous drugs developed to treat this disease, and different drug treatment measures have been proven to achieve certain clinical efficacy in the corresponding randomized controlled trials. However, there are still many therapeutic drugs that have not been directly compared and studied.

Introduction: Approximately 40% of patients with acute low back pain (LBP) develop chronic low back pain, which significantly increases the risk of poor prognosis. To reduce the risk of acute LBP becoming chronic, effective preventive strategies are needed. Early identification of risk factors for the development of chronic LBP can help clinicians choose appropriate treatment options and improve patient outcomes.

Long noncoding RNA HOTAIR promotes breast cancer development through the lncRNA HOTAIR/miR-1/GOLPH3 axis.

Clin Transl Oncol

December 2023

Department of Breast Surgery, The Third Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University, Yunnan Cancer Hospital, Kunming, China.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study found that the long non-coding RNA HOTAIR is overexpressed in breast cancer tissues and contributes to cancer development by affecting cell behavior.
  • - Researchers used various methods to assess how HOTAIR and miRNA-1 influence breast cancer cell proliferation, invasion, and apoptosis, confirming that silencing HOTAIR leads to reduced cancer cell activity.
  • - The HOTAIR/miR-1/GOLPH3 regulatory axis was identified as a key mechanism, showing that HOTAIR decreases the expression of miR-1, which in turn affects GOLPH3 expression and influences cancer progression.

Front Oncol

June 2022

Department of Radiation Oncology, The Third Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University, Tumor Hospital of Yunnan Province, Kunming, China.

Increasing evidence has implicated the modification of 7-methylguanosine (mG), a type of RNA modification, in tumor progression. However, no comprehensive analysis to date has summarized the predicted role of mG-related gene signatures in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD). Herein, we aimed to develop a novel prognostic model in LUAD based on mG-related gene signatures.
