Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic inflammatory disease that leads to joint deformity and ultimately disability. The metabolite of quercetin, 4-Methylcatechol (4-MC), has been acknowledged for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties; however, the protective effects of 4-MC on RA and its underlying mechanisms remain incompletely elucidated. In a collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) model, we observed that 4-MC effectively mitigated joint inflammation and bone destruction in CIA mice.

Background: Endometrial cancer is one of the most common female cancers globally and in China. Although timely assessment of 5-year relative survival is crucial for guiding secondary prevention and early screening programs for endometrial cancer patients, those kinds of data are scarce in China. We aimed to provide a timely and accurate assessment of 5-year relative survival for patients with endometrial cancer from eastern China.

Article Synopsis
  • Antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-associated vasculitis (AAV) is a rare inflammatory disease linked to small blood vessels, often triggered by antithyroid drugs like propylthiouracil (PTU) in patients with Graves' disease.
  • A case report of a female patient planning pregnancy highlighted the development of PTU-induced p-ANCA-associated vasculitis, leading to joint pain and kidney issues, evidenced by autoimmune markers.
  • The patient was treated with glucocorticoids and immunosuppressive therapy, showing improvement in kidney and thyroid function, emphasizing the need for careful consideration of medication and pregnancy planning in similar cases.

Chronic cerebral ischemia (CCI) is a common neurological disorder, characterized by progressive cognitive impairment. Acupoint catgut embedding (ACE) represents a modern acupuncture form that has shown neuroprotective effects; nevertheless, its effects on CCI and the mechanisms remain largely unknown. Here, we aimed to explore the therapeutic action of ACE in CCI-induced cognitive impairment and its mechanisms.

Background: In recent investigations, substantial strides have been made in the precise modulation of the gut microbiota to prevent and treat a myriad of diseases. Simultaneously, the pressing issue of widespread antibiotic resistance and multidrug resistance resulting from infections demands urgent attention. Several studies suggest that the antagonistic influence of the gut microbiota could serve as a novel avenue for impeding the colonization of pathogenic microorganisms or treating infections.

In recent years, the role of intestinal homeostasis in health has received increasing interest, significantly improving our understanding of the complex pathophysiological interactions of the gut with other organs. Microbiota dysbiosis, impaired intestinal barrier, and aberrant intestinal immunity appear to contribute to the pathogenesis of immune-related chronic kidney diseases (CKD). Meanwhile, the relationship between the pathological changes in the respiratory tract (e.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is associated with high incidence, low awareness, and high disability rates among the population. Moreover, the disease significantly affects the physical and mental health of patients. Approximately 25% of patients with CKD develop end-stage renal disease (ESRD) within 20 years of diagnosis and have to rely on renal replacement therapy, which is associated with high mortality, heavy economic burden, and symptoms including fatigue, pain, insomnia, uremia pruritus, and restless leg syndrome.

Serotonin 3 receptor antagonists, a commonly used drug for preventing postoperative nausea and vomiting, have recently been reported to decrease the incidence of hypotension and the need for vasoactive drugs after spinal anaesthesia in obstetric surgery. However, it remains unknown whether they could also prevent hypotension after induction of general anaesthesia. In the current study, we aimed to investigate the effect of intravenous granisetron on prophylactic ephedrine for preventing hypotension after general anaesthesia induction in elderly patients.
