Whether load carriage leads to six-degrees-of-freedom (6DOF) knee kinematic alterations remains unclear. Exploring this mechanism may reveal meaningful knee kinematic information that can be used to improve load carriage conditions, the design of protective devices, and the knowledge of the effects of load carriage on knees. We recruited 44 subjects to explore kinematic alterations from an unloaded state to 60% bodyweight (BW) load carriage.

Background: In aged people, tendon injuries frequently occur during sporting and daily activities. In clinical practice, typical physiotherapeutic, pharmacotherapeutic, and surgical techniques do not result in the full recovery of injured tendons, which may lead to chronic degenerative disease.
Methods: We first isolated tendon stem cells (TSCs) from rats and transfected them with the TGFβ1 gene, resulting in TGFβ1-TSCs.

Sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P) is a bioactive phospholipid that serves as a potent mediator of cell proliferation, differentiation and apoptosis by binding to S1P receptors (S1PRs). S1P signalling is involved in the pathogenesis of numerous types of disease, including cancer. To the best of our knowledge, however, little is known about the expression patterns of S1PRs and their role in human colorectal cancer (CRC) cell migration and invasion.

Background: It is reported that the osteogenesis in bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) can alleviate osteoporosis progression. It has been found that Kae can promote the osteogenesis in BMSCs. However, the mechanism by which Kae mediates the osteogenesis in BMSCs is largely unknown.

Clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is the most common histologic subtype of renal cell carcinoma and long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) play important roles in the progression of ccRCC. In this study, we aim to explore the potential function of ITGB2-AS1 in ccRCC progression and its underlying molecular mechanism. We first explored the association between ITGB2-AS1 expression level and ccRCC prognosis.

Previous research indicates that kaempferol (Kae) promotes osteogenesis, but its underlying mechanism of action remains unclear. The present study hypothesized that the osteogenic effects of Kae were mediated through mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR). To validate this hypothesis, bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) from ovariectomized (OVX) rats were differentiated into osteoblasts.

Background: Patients with Alzheimer disease (AD) and amnesic mild cognitive impairment (aMCI) have deficits in emotion recognition. However, it has not yet been determined whether patients with AD and aMCI also experience difficulty in recognizing the emotions conveyed by music. This study was conducted to investigate whether musical emotion recognition is impaired or retained in patients with AD and aMCI.

Laparoscopic nephron-sparing partial nephrectomy with segmental renal artery blocking (SRPN) has been widely used in the treatment of localized renal tumors. However, the impact of ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI) during SRPN remains controversial. This study aims to evaluate the correlation between affected renal function and affected renal volume after SRPN for localized renal tumor treatment, explore the effect of IRI on renal function after SRPN.

Excessive production of amyloid β (Aβ) induced by familial mutations in amyloid precursor protein (APP) and presenilin 1 (PS1) results in neuronal oxidative insults, mitochondrial dysfunction, and apoptosis, which play an essential role in the pathological development of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Aloperine, a quinolizidine alkaloid derived from the leaves of the Sophora plant, has displayed multiple pharmacological functions in several chronic diseases. In the current study, we investigated the neuro-protective effects of aloperine against cytotoxicity in mouse Neuro2a (N2a) cells transfected with Swedish amyloid precursor protein (Swe-APP) mutant and presenilin 1 exon 9 deletion mutant (N2a/Swe.

To date, aquaporin‑4 (AQP4) has been considered as a critical contributor to neuroinflammation, but little is known about the underlying mechanism. Previous studies have shown that a critical enzyme involved in the sphingomyelin cycle, sphingosine kinase 1 (SPHK1), is implicated in inflammatory processes and contributes to chronic neuroinflammation. The present study investigated the role of AQP4 in proinflammatory cytokine release from astrocytes, with an emphasis on the SPHK1/mitogen‑activated protein kinase (MAPK)/protein kinase B (AKT) pathway.

Many previous studies have demonstrated that the blindness patients have has functional and anatomical abnormalities in the visual and other vision-related cortex. However, changes in the brain function in late monocular blindness (MB) at rest are largely unknown. In this study, we investigated the underlying regional homogeneity (ReHo) of brain-activity abnormalities in patients with late MB and their relationship with clinical features.

In this review, we summarize the progression of several parameters assessed by spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) in recent years for the detection of glaucoma. Monitoring the progression of defects in the retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness is essential. Imaging and analysis of retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) and inner plexiform layer (IPL), respectively, have been of great importance.

Objective: Previous reports have demonstrated significant brain activity changes in bilateral blindness, whereas brain activity changes in late monocular blindness (MB) at rest are not well studied. Our study aimed to investigate spontaneous brain activity in patients with late middle-aged MB using the amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation (ALFF) method and their relationship with clinical features.
Methods: A total of 32 patients with MB (25 males and 7 females) and 32 healthy control (HC) subjects (25 males and 7 females), similar in age, sex, and education, were recruited for the study.

Our objective was to use amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation (ALFF) method to investigate the changes in spontaneous brain activity in HM patients and their relationships with clinical features.
Methods: A total of 38 patients with HM (17 males and 21 females) and 38 healthy controls (HCs) (17 males and 21 females) closely matched in age, sex, and education underwent resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging scans.

Background: Female sex workers (FSWs) play a critical role in the heterosexual transmission of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)/sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in China. Several studies reported that street-based FSWs have higher risk behaviors than establishment-based FSWs. Therefore, street-based FSWs should be specifically targeted for HIV and STIs intervention programs.

Cryosurgery has shown encouraging therapeutic effects on some solid tumors but its effect on the cellular immunity remains unclear. We developed a subcutaneously xenotransplanted tumor model in SD rats to directly evaluate the immune response by detecting the serum cytokine levels, T-cell responses to tumor derived antigens, and the cytolytic activity of peripheral blood mononuclear cells against the W256 cancer line with apoptosis of cells being detected using TUNEL method. 66 SD rats were divided into 2 groups with group A having 36 rats and group B having 30 rats.
