Osteoporosis (OP) is a common clinical bone disease that can cause a high incidence of non-stress fractures and is one of the main degenerative diseases that endangers the health and life of middle-aged and older women. The mechanism underlying the abnormal differentiation and function of human bone marrow stem cells (hBMSCs) remains to be elucidated. Cell proliferation and differentiation were determined using 3-(4,5)-dimethylthiahiazo (-z-y1)-3,5-di-phenytetrazoliumromide (MTT) assay, alkaline phosphatase (ALP) staining, and Alizarin Red Staining.

April 2024

Department of Hematology, The Second Affiliated Hospital, Jiangxi Medical College, Nanchang University, Key Laboratory of Hematology of Jiangxi Province Nanchang, Jiangxi, China.

Genetic and epigenetic aberrations display an essential role in the initiation and progression of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). 5-methylcytosine (mC), a common RNA modification, regulates various cellular processes and contributes to tumorigenesis and cancer progression. However, mC alterations in DLBCL remain unclear.

The transient receptor potential melastatin 2 (TRPM2) channel is a nonselective calcium channel that is sensitive to oxidative stress (OS), and is widely expressed in multiple organs, such as the heart, kidney, and brain, which is inextricably related to calcium dyshomeostasis and downstream pathological events. Due to the increasing global burden of kidney or cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), safe and efficient drugs specific to novel targets are imperatively needed. Notably, investigation of the possibility to regard the TRPM2 channel as a new therapeutic target in ROS-related CVDs or renal diseases is urgently required because the roles of the TRPM2 channel in heart or kidney diseases have not received enough attention and thus have not been fully elaborated.

Background: Tumor progression and the therapeutic resistance associated with cancer agents are thought to be modulated by circular RNAs (circRNAs); however, its mechanism associated with nonsmall cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is still undetermined. The following investigation aimed to evaluate the involvement of circRNAs with NSCLC.

Methods: The serum specimens of 146 NSCLC individuals who received complete four cycles of PTX chemotherapy were collected.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the sixth most common malignant tumors and the third leading cause of cancer-related death worldwide. As an oncogene, Rab23 has been shown to be significantly related to the growth and migration of hepatocellular carcinoma in both in vitro and in vivo studies, but its underlying mechanism remains obscure. In the present study, we examined the effect of inhibiting Rab23 expression on the pathological progression of HCC.

Background: Clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is the dominant subtype of kidney cancer. Dysregulation of long-chain acyl-CoA synthetase 1 (ACSL1) is strongly implicated in undesirable results in varieties of cancers. Nevertheless, the dysregulation and associated multi-omics characteristics of ACSL1 in ccRCC remain elusive.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the prognostic significance of diastolic blood pressure (DBP) in patients with acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD) to identify its relationship with negative health outcomes.
  • A total of 13,633 AECOPD patients were examined, revealing that low DBP (<70 mmHg) on admission significantly increased the risk of in-hospital mortality, need for invasive mechanical ventilation, and ICU admission.
  • The research indicates that as DBP decreases, the risk of mortality rises, highlighting the importance of monitoring DBP in AECOPD patients upon hospital admission.

Article Synopsis
  • Glaucoma is a leading cause of blindness, affecting both the optic nerve pathway and the visual cortex, but the dynamic connectivity of the visual cortex in primary angle-closure glaucoma (PACG) patients was not previously studied.
  • A study involving 34 PACG patients and 34 healthy controls used a sliding window method to examine dynamic functional connectivity (dFC) changes in the primary visual cortex (V1).
  • Results indicated that PACG patients exhibited increased dFC between V1 and the calcarine region, suggesting heightened variability in functional connectivity in the visual network among these patients.
