Background: For patients with hormone receptor-positive HER2-negeative metastatic breast cancer (HRHER2 MBC), switching to another cyclin-dependent kinase 4/6 inhibitor (CDK4/6i) or targeted drugs with different mechanism are considerable treatment strategies post-CDK4/6i. However, no clinical data has been reported on which of the two strategies is more effective. In order to explore optimal treatment option post-CDK4/6i, we performed a retrospective comparative cohort study to evaluate the efficacy and safety of abemaciclib-based therapy versus tucidinostat-based therapy after progression on palbociclib.

Background: Coronary slow flow (CSF) has gained significance as a chronic coronary artery disease, but few studies have integrated both biological and anatomical factors for CSF assessment. This study aimed to develop and validate a simple-to-use nomogram for predicting CSF risk by combining biological and anatomical factors.

Methods: In this retrospective case-control study, 1042 patients (614 CSF cases and 428 controls) were randomly assigned to the development and validation cohorts at a 7:3 ratio.

Eur J Anaesthesiol

March 2024

From the Department of Anaesthesiology, The First Medical Centre of Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) General Hospital (CO-Y, LM, XW, YM, YL, LT, HLi, JL, JC, WM), Medical School of Chinese People's Liberation Army (CO, WM), Department of Anaesthesiology, The Fifth Medical Center of Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) General Hospital (CO), National Clinical Research Centre for Geriatric Diseases, People's Liberation Army General Hospital, Beijing, China (JC, WM).

Background: Sleep disturbances in the peri-operative period have been associated with adverse outcomes, including postoperative delirium (POD). However, research on sleep quality during the immediate postoperative period is limited.

Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the association between sleep quality on the night of the operative day assessed using the Sleep Quality Numeric Rating Scale (SQ-NRS), and the incidence of POD in a large cohort of surgical patients.

Article Synopsis
  • An international study analyzed outcomes of distal pancreatectomy in patients with intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm (IPMN), comparing those with splenectomy to those without.
  • Out of 700 patients, a significant portion underwent spleen-preserving procedures, which resulted in shorter surgery times, less blood loss, and shorter hospital stays.
  • While lymph node metastasis (LNM) was noted in 6.7% of patients, no notable difference in overall survival rates was found between spleen-preserving and spleen-removing surgeries for those without suspected malignancy.

In the past decade, generated data of large-scale clinical research of endocrine therapy and the update of guidelines have changed clinical practice of breast cancer treatment. However, there are unresolved issues on endocrine therapy. Based on new evidences and clinical experience, we expounded our points on neoadjuvant endocrine therapy, CDK4/6 inhibitoradjuvant therapy, concepts of endocrine sensitivity and endocrine resistance, first-line treatment for metastatic breast cancer, treatment options after progression on CDK4/6 inhibitor and treatment ofvisceral crisis.

Molecular subtypes predict the preferential site of distant metastasis in advanced breast cancer: a nationwide retrospective study.

Front Oncol

January 2023

Department of Cancer Epidemiology, National Cancer Center/National Clinical Research Center for Cancer/Cancer Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College, Beijing, China.

Article Synopsis
  • The study analyzed how different molecular subtypes of advanced breast cancer (ABC) relate to the site of distant metastasis in a large cohort of patients from China.
  • Luminal A and Luminal B subtypes were mainly associated with bone metastasis, while HER2-enriched cases showed a higher tendency for liver metastasis, and Triple Negative patients had an increased risk for brain metastasis.
  • The findings highlighted the importance of molecular subtypes in predicting metastasis patterns, which can aid in more personalized treatment and surveillance strategies for managing ABC.

Department of Nephrology, First Medical Center of Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) General Hospital, Nephrology Institute of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, State Key Laboratory of Kidney Diseases, National Clinical Research Center for Kidney Diseases, Beijing, China.

Background: RARRES1 is a tumor suppressor protein, and its expression is suppressed in various tumor cells. However, whether it participates in the immune response in kidney renal clear cell carcinoma (KIRC) is unknown, and the defined mechanism is not clear. Therefore, the mechanism of RARRES1 in KIRC is worthy of investigation.

Department of Cardiology, National Center of Gerontology, Institute of Geriatric Medicine, Beijing Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, Beijing, China.

Atherosclerosis (AS) is a chronic vascular inflammatory disease, in which the lipid accumulation in the intima of the arteries shows yellow atheromatous appearance, which is the pathological basis of many diseases, such as coronary artery disease, peripheral artery disease and cerebrovascular disease. In recent years, it has become the main cause of death in the global aging society, which seriously endangers human health. As a result, research on AS is increasing.
