Autophagy-driven NETosis is a double-edged sword - Review.

Biomed Pharmacother

June 2020

Department of Laboratory Medicine, The First Hospital of Qiqihar, Qiqihar, 161005, China; Department of Laboratory Medicine, Affiliated Qiqihar Hospital, Southern Medical University, Qiqihar, 161005, China.

Autophagy is a cellular mechanism responsible for delivering protein aggregates or damaged organelles to lysosomes for degradation. It is also simultaneously a precise regulatory process, which is crucial for dealing with hunger, oxidative stress, and pathogen defense. Neutrophil Extracellular Traps (NETs), which form a part of a newly described bactericidal process, are reticular structures composed of a DNA backbone and multiple functional proteins, formed via a process known as NETosis.

Objectives: Cancer stem cells (CSCs) have been identified to correlate with the initiation and metastasis of tumours, and DNA damage-inducible transcript 3 (DDIT3) is associated with the poor prognosis in gastric cancer (GC). However, whether DDIT3 mediates CSCs stemness in GC is still unclear.

Methods: Microarray analysis and Gene Ontology (GO) were conducted to identify the differentially expressed genes in GC tissues from GC patients.

Ferroptosis: past, present and future.

Cell Death Dis

February 2020

Department of Pancreatic and Biliary Surgery, The First Affiliated Hospital of Harbin Medical University, Harbin, Heilongjiang Province, China.

Ferroptosis is a new type of cell death that was discovered in recent years and is usually accompanied by a large amount of iron accumulation and lipid peroxidation during the cell death process; the occurrence of ferroptosis is iron-dependent. Ferroptosis-inducing factors can directly or indirectly affect glutathione peroxidase through different pathways, resulting in a decrease in antioxidant capacity and accumulation of lipid reactive oxygen species (ROS) in cells, ultimately leading to oxidative cell death. Recent studies have shown that ferroptosis is closely related to the pathophysiological processes of many diseases, such as tumors, nervous system diseases, ischemia-reperfusion injury, kidney injury, and blood diseases.

Long non-coding RNA KDM5B anti-sense RNA 1 enhances tumor progression in non-small cell lung cancer.

J Clin Lab Anal

January 2020

Department of Chinese and Western Medicine Combined with Oncology, The First Hospital of Qiqihar City, Qiqihar, China.

Background: The long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been shown as a novel class of transcripts with no protein coding functions. LncRNAs can play diverse roles in cancer cell proliferation, differentiation, metastasis, and apoptosis. However, the exact contributions of lncRNA KDM5B anti-sense RNA 1 (KDM5BAS1) to non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) remain poorly understood.

Association of Leukemia Target Genes , and in Vitamin C Pathways.

Cancer Genomics Proteomics

January 2020

Department of Orthopedic Surgery and BME-Campbell Clinic, University of Tennessee Health Science Center, Memphis, TN, U.S.A.

Background: Vitamin C has been used in combination with several target genes in the treatment of leukemia. Tet methylcytosine dioxygenase (Tet2), B-cell lymphoma 2 (Bcl2), and solute carrier family 23 member 2 (Slc23a2) are the major target genes in the treatment of leukemia and are relevant to vitamin C.

Materials And Methods: Using whole-genome expression profiles from mouse livers, the expression quantitative trait locus (eQTL), correlation matrix, and gene network graph were constructed with probes from each of these three genes and with their relative genes.

Estradiol (E2) is a first‑line drug for osteoporosis (OP) treatment via promotion of osteoblastic proliferation and differentiation. However, a long‑term use of E2 would produce side effects thus, it is imperative to discover safer and more effective drugs. Pinoresinol (PINO) has a similar chemical structure to E2.

Background: Two ongoing prospective randomized trials are evaluating whether omitting axillary lymph node dissection (alnd) in patients with breast cancer (bca) and sentinel lymph node (sln) macrometastases undergoing mastectomy is safe. Determining predictive risk factors for non-sln metastases and developing a model to predict the probability of those patients having non-sln metastases is also important.

Methods: This retrospective study enrolled 396 patients with bca and 1-2 slns with macrometastases who underwent alnd and mastectomy between January 2012 and December 2016.
