Angiogenesis is a complex process in the immunosuppressed low-grade gliomas (LGG) microenvironment and is regulated by multiple factors. N-methyladenosine (m6A), modified by the m6A modification regulators ("writers" "readers" and "erasers"), can drive LGG formation. In the hypoxic environment of intracranial tumor immune microenvironment (TIME), m6A modifications in glioma stem cells are predominantly distributed around neovascularization and synergize with complex perivascular pathological ecology to mediate the immunosuppressive phenotype of TIME.

Metformin, the first-line therapy for type 2 diabetes (T2D), decreases hepatic glucose production and reduces fasting plasma glucose levels. Dorzagliatin, a dual-acting orally bioavailable glucokinase activator targeting both the pancreas and liver glucokinase, decreases postprandial glucose in patients with T2D. In this randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled phase 3 trial, the efficacy and safety of dorzagliatin as an add-on therapy to metformin were assessed in patients with T2D who had inadequate glycemic control using metformin alone.

Extracellular vesicle (EV)-mediated transfer of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) has been reported to regulate chemoresistance in various cancers. We herein investigate the therapeutic potential of bioinformatically identified HOTAIR transferred by serum-derived EVs (serum-EVs) in temozolomide (TMZ) resistance of glioblastoma (GBM) and the downstream mechanisms. EVs were isolated from the serum of GBM patients.

Intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD) remains a clinical challenge and requires more effective therapeutic targets. Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) have emerged as critical modulators of multiple biological processes, such as cell proliferation and extracellular matrix (ECM) remodeling. Accordingly, the current study sets out to explore the influence of the lncRNA growth arrest-specific 5 (GAS5) on IVDD and investigate the possible involvement of microRNA-17-3p (miR-17-3p)/Angiopoietin-2 (Ang-2) axis.

Objectives: Osteoarthritis (OA) is a joint degenerative disease that commonly occurs in older people and affect the quality of life. Triptolide (TPL), a compound derived from Tripterygium wilfordii, has been shown to exhibit anti-inflammatory properties. Here, we investigated the therapeutic effect of TPL on the experimental OA as well as the underlying molecular mechanisms.

Glioma is the most common type of malignant tumor of the nervous system and is characterized by high mortality and poor outcome. This study aims to investigate the mechanism underlying IGF2 mRNA-binding protein 2 (IGF2BP2) and long noncoding RNA DANCR in etoposide resistance of glioblastoma (GBM) cells. Bioinformatics analysis identified the IGF2BP2-related regulators and DANCR target genes, which were subsequently evaluated by RNA pull-down and RIP assays.

Article Synopsis
  • Elevated early postoperative CEA levels are a crucial prognostic marker for stage II colorectal cancer (CRC), with a cutoff value identified at 3.66 ng/ml.
  • A study involving 1081 patients indicated that higher early postoperative CEA correlates with significantly worse overall survival (OS), disease-free survival (DFS), and cancer-specific survival (CSS) outcomes.
  • Findings suggest that while preoperative CEA levels do not impact prognosis when early postoperative levels are elevated, early postoperative CEA levels serve as the strongest independent factor for predicting patient outcomes post-surgery.

Atherosclerosis (AS) is a chronic inflammatory disease characterized by abnormal lipid metabolism. Foam cell formation is also known as an early event of AS. Cholesterol efflux is a process whereby cholesterol is excreted from foam cells through transporters, which serves as one of the effective regulatory mechanisms to prevent AS.

This study was designed to probe into the improvement of rehabilitation training combined with Jiaji electroacupuncture intervention on patients with upper limb peripheral nerve injury. A total of 114 patients with peripheral nerve injury of upper limbs in our hospital from August 2017 to November 2019 were collected as the research participants. Among them, 59 in the control group (CG) received rehabilitation training alone, while 65 in the observation group (OG) received rehabilitation training combined with Jiaji electroacupuncture intervention.

Gastric cancer (GC) is among the most frequent malignancies originating from the digestive system worldwide, while the role and specific mechanism of integrin-subunit alpha 11 (ITGA11) in GC remain unclear. This study probes the expression characteristics and function of ITGA11 in GC. Firstly, the ITGA11 profile in GC tissues and paracancerous non-tumor tissues was assessed by quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) and Western blot (WB), and the association between ITGA11 and GC patients' clinicopathological indicators was evaluated.

From Anti-PD-1/PD-L1 to CTLA-4 and to MUC1-Is the Better Response to Treatment in Smokers of Cancer Patients Drug Specific?

J Pers Med

September 2021

Beijing Cancer Hospital and Key Laboratory of Carcinogenesis and Translational Research, Department of Gastrointestinal Surgery, Peking University Cancer Hospital and Institute, Beijing 100142, China.

Whether smokers respond to anti-cancer drugs differently than non-smokers remains controversial. The objective of this study is to explore whether the better response of the smokers is specific to therapy of anti-PD-1/PD-L1, anti-checkpoint inhibitor, individual drugs on the cell surface, or lung cancer. Our results showed that among all non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients, when the data from anti-PD-1/PD-L1, anti-CTLA-4, and anti-MUC1 drugs are combined, the mean hazard ratios (HR) of smokers and non-smokers were 0.

College of Animal Science and Veterinary Medicine, Heilongjiang Bayi Agricultural University, Tech Industrial Development Zone, Daqing, Heilongjiang, 163319, People's Republic of China.

Selenomethionine (SeMet) is known to alleviate ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury. However, its details of action have not been thoroughly elucidated in mice with intestinal I/R injury. In this study, intestinal I/R injury mice models were established, and ELISAs were performed to determine the levels of redox factors, including glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), catalase (CAT), superoxide dismutase (SOD), and malondialdehyde (MDA), in mice intestinal tissues.
