Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is the initial phase of Alzheimer's disease (AD). The cognitive decline is linked to abnormal connectivity between different regions of the brain. Most brain network studies fail to consider the changes in brain patterns and do not reflect the dynamic pathological characteristics of patients.

Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates how HPV infection relates to the vaginal microecological environment in 1,281 patients at The First Hospital of Qinhuangdao, focusing on specific enzymes.
  • The researchers found that the presence of proline aminopeptidase and acetylglucosaminidase is linked with various vaginal inflammatory diseases, like trichomonas and bacterial vaginitis.
  • The findings suggest that these enzymes can increase the risk of different HPV subtypes and hold potential as diagnostic tools for persistent HPV infection.

Background: Myoblasts play an important role in muscle growth and repair, but the high glucose environment severely affects their function. The purpose of this study is to explore the potential molecular mechanism of liraglutide in alleviating the effects of high glucose environments on myoblasts.

Methods: MTT, western blot, and ELISA methods were used to investigate the role of liraglutide on C2C12 myoblasts induced by high glucose.

February 2024

Nano-biotechnology Key Lab of Hebei Province, Hebei Key Laboratory of Applied Chemistry, College of Environmental and Chemical Engineering, Yanshan University, Qinhuangdao, Hebei Province 066000, People's Republic of China.

The inflammatory response is one of the general symptoms that accompany tumorigenesis, the pro-inflammatory factors cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) and COX-2-derived prostaglandin-2 (PGE-2) in the inflammatory environment surrounding tumors possess promoting tumor development, metastasis and angiogenesis effects. In addition, the hypoxic environment of tumors severely limits the effectiveness of photodynamic therapy (PDT). In this study, a universal extracellular-intracellular 'on-demand' release nanomedicine DOX@PDA-ICG@MnO@GN-CEL was developed for the combined fight against malignant tumors using a spatiotemporal controlled gelatin coated polydopamine (PDA@GN) as the carrier and loaded with the chemotherapeutic drug doxorubicin (DOX), the photosensitizer indocyanine green (ICG), the PDT enhancer MnOand the anti-inflammatory drug celecoxib (CEL) individually.

Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear is a common clinical injury, and ACL reconstruction has reached a very mature stage. However, with the accumulation of cases, scholars have found that isolated ACL reconstruction may not completely solve the problem of knee rotational stability. With the increase in our understanding of knee joint structure, ACL combined with anterolateral ligament (ALL) reconstruction has become accepted by most scholars, and this operation has also achieved good clinical results.

Saudi Med J

December 2023

From the Department of Cardiology, The first hospital of Qinhuangdao, Hebei Medical University, Qinhuangdao, Hebei, China.

Objectives: To investigates the outcomes of enhanced external counterpulsation (EECP) among coronary microvascular disease (CMD) patients.

Methods: Coronary microvascular disease patients were separated into the EECP (n=41) and control cohorts (n=42). Prior to and following the 4-week EECP program, coronary flow reserve (CFR) was recorded using transthoracic Doppler echocardiography.

Purpose: Identify radiomics features associated with progression-free survival (PFS) and develop a predictive model for accurate PFS prediction in liver metastatic gastrointestinal stromal tumor patients (GIST).

Methods: This multi-center retrospective study involved a comprehensive review of clinical and imaging data pertaining to 211 patients with gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST) from Center A and B. A total of 147 patients with hepatic metastatic GIST were included, with 102 cases as the training set and 45 cases as the external validation set.

Prognostic significance of inflammation in patients with coronary artery disease at low residual inflammatory risk.

iScience

November 2023

National Clinical Research center for Cardiovascular Diseases, State Key Laboratory of Cardiovascular Disease, Fuwai Hospital, National Center for Cardiovascular Diseases, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College, Beijing 100037, China.

Article Synopsis
  • This study focused on patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) who have low levels of inflammation, often ignored in research.
  • Researchers evaluated 14 inflammatory markers in over 5,300 CAD patients, finding that the neutrophil-derived systemic inflammatory response index (SIRI) was the most significant predictor of overall death risk.
  • The study introduced a new comprehensive inflammation score (CIS), which outperformed other indicators in predicting mortality, suggesting it can help identify patients with hidden inflammation issues not captured by traditional markers like high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP).

Aim: To evaluate the important characteristics of the plaque vulnerability using multimodal ultrasound imaging methods (2D, contrast-enhanced ultrasound, and elastography), and to explore the relationship between plaque and acute stroke.

Methods: A total of 244 patients with carotid plaque were enrolled, including 104 patients with acute stroke ipsilateral to the plaque as the case group and 140 patients as the control group. All patients underwent conventional carotid ultrasound, contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) and elastography (SWE).

Background: Many studies have confirmed the existence of ligament structures in the anterolateral region of the knee that maintain rotational stability of the knee joint, namely, the anterolateral ligament (ALL). Most scholars believe that knee joint reconstruction should be considered during revision surgery and a high level of pivot displacement test (stage 2 or 3). During ALL reconstruction, the choice of ligament reconstruction sites affects the success rate and prognosis of the operation.
