Acquisition of Speech Prosody in a Non-native Tone Language by Children With and Without Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Purpose: Children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) often show abnormal speech prosody. Tonal languages can pose more difficulties as speakers need to use acoustic cues to make lexical contrasts while encoding the focal function, but the acquisition of speech prosody of non-native languages, especially tonal languages has rarely been investigated.

Methods: This study aims to fill in the aforementioned gap by studying prosodic focus-marking in Mandarin by native Cantonese-speaking children with ASD (n = 25), in comparison with their typically developing (TD) peers (n = 20) and native Mandarin-speaking children (n = 20).

The tumorigenesis of breast cancer is a complex process involving multiple factors, among which abnormal gene expression is a key event. Nevertheless, studies on the regulation of gene expression have focused primarily on the transcriptional level, although the abnormal translation regulation is also closely related to tumorigenesis. Accumulating evidence has indicated the dysregulation of eukaryotic initiation factor (eIF) subunits in a variety of tumors, which contributes to the malignant transformation, tumor growth, metastasis, and the prognosis of patients.

Cancer-Specific Survival after Limb Salvage versus Amputation in Children and Adolescents with Osteosarcoma: A Population-Based Analysis with Propensity Score Matching.

Background: The study aims to identify whether osteosarcoma patients of children and young adults will benefit from a survival profit from the choice of the operation method.

Methods: The National Cancer Institute SEER database from 2000 to 2018 was selected for a retrospective analysis of 1630 children and young adults with a primary diagnosis of osteosarcoma, 1222 who underwent limb-preserving surgery, and 408 who underwent amputation. Confounders were controlled for by propensity score matching (PSM), cancer-specific survival (CSS) was analyzed using the Kaplan-Meier method, and univariate and multivariate Cox regression was used to analyze the factors influencing the prognosis of children and young osteosarcoma patients after surgery.

Construction and Validation of Two Novel Nomograms for Predicting the Overall Survival and Cancer-Specific Survival of NSCLC Patients with Bone Metastasis.

Background: Bone metastasis (BM) is the most common site of metastasis in non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC). We aimed to construct and validate 2 novel nomograms predicting the 3-, 6-, and 12-months overall survival (OS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS).

Methods: The clinical data of 7480 patients between 2010 and 2016 were enrolled from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database (SEER).

Paravertebral block reduces pain in elderly patients with percutaneous nephrolithotomy: A randomized controlled study protocol.

Objective:: To assess the effectiveness of paravertebral block for the percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) patients.

Method:: This study will be implemented from May 2021 to March 2022 at Affiliated Hospital of Youjiang Medical University for Nationalities and it was granted through the Research Ethics Committee of Affiliated Hospital of Youjiang Medical University for Nationalities (No.60192038).
