Intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is a recognized central nervous system inflammation complication. Several microRNAs (miRNAs or miRs) have been documented to be vital modulators in peripheral and central nervous system inflammation. Based on whole transcriptome sequencing and bioinformatics analysis, this study aims to reveal the possible molecular mechanisms by which miR-122-5p affects the inflammatory response in the peripheral and central nervous system in a mouse model of ICH.

Background: The benefits of breast conserving surgery for breast cancer patients are well established. To achieve adequate margins of excision, intraoperative management of breast margins is a critical factor through reducing reoperation for inadequate positive margin excision and associated morbidity and cost. Radiofrequency spectroscopy is a technology that could significantly reduce positive margins when used intraoperatively as an adjunct to other margin management methods.

Neuronal necroptosis and apoptosis are the most important pathways for programmed cell death after brain ischaemic stroke. Although apoptosis signalling pathways have been extensively studied, molecular mechanisms underlying necroptosis remain unclear. In this study, we found that receptor-interacting protein 3 (RIP3) deficiency reduced cerebral infarction volume, neurological deficits, and neuronal ultrastructural damage in a mouse model of brain ischaemic stroke by inhibiting programmed cell death.

Background: Effective prognostic assessment and appropriate drug selection are important for the clinical management of pancreatic cancer (PaC). Here, we aimed to establish a pyroptosis-associated genes (PRGs) signature to predict the prognostic outcomes of PaC and guide clinical drug therapy.

Methods: We identified the differentially expressed PRGs between pancreatic adenocarcinoma (n = 178) and control pancreas samples (n = 171) obtained from different databases, and performed Lasso and Cox regression analysis to create a prognosis signature.

Objective: Intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is a common cerebrovascular disease with high incidence, disability, and mortality. Casein kinase 2 (CK2) is a serine/threonine kinase with hundreds of identified substrates and plays an important role in many diseases. This study aimed to explore whether CK2 plays protective roles in ICH-induced neuronal apoptosis, inflammation, and oxidative stress through regulation NR2B phosphorylation.

Neuroinflammation plays an important role in brain tissue injury during intracerebral hemorrhage. Gabapentin can reduce inflammation and oxidative stress through inhibiting nuclear factor κB (NFκB) signals. Here, we showed that gabapentin reduced brain tissue injury in ICH through suppressing NFκB-mediated neuroinflammation.

Regulation of ferroptosis by noncoding RNAs: a novel promise treatment in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma.

Mol Cell Biochem

September 2022

Department of Gastroenterology, The First Hospital of Handan City, 25 Congtai Road, Handan, 056002, Hebei, China.

Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is a highly prevalent tumor that requires extensive research. Ferroptosis is a unique cell death modality driven by iron-dependent phospholipid peroxidation manifested as an accumulation of lipid-reactive oxygen species. With further understanding of noncoding RNAs (ncRNAs), numerous studies have demonstrated an important regulatory role of ncRNAs in ESCC through ferroptosis, including microRNAs, long ncRNAs, and circular RNAs.

Calcium voltage-gated channel auxiliary subunit (α2δ1) is a non-essential subunit of the voltage-gated calcium channel complex and is ubiquitously expressed in a number of tissues, including the brain. Thrombospondin (TSP)1 and TSP2 are extracellular matrix proteins and belong to the multi-domain glycoprotein family of macromolecular oligomers. TSP1/2 and α2δ1 promote synapse formation and functional recovery following cerebral infarction.

Purpose: We aimed to compare the histological and/or cytological diagnostic outcomes of EUS-FNA using 19G and 22G needles for solid pancreatic lesions and to evaluate the feasibility and safety of 19G needle.

Patients And Methods: Data from patients with solid pancreatic lesions, who underwent EUS-FNA, were retrospectively retrieved from a single tertiary center from June 2017 to January 2021. The sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy of diagnosis, sample adequacy, number and time of punctures, and adverse events, were compared between the 19G and 22G groups.

Background: Family with sequence similarity 57 member A (FAM57A) is a membrane associated gene contributing to lung carcinogenesis. In hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and other cancers, whether FAM57A exerts similar roles has been rarely reported. Herein, the biological functions and clinical significance of FAM57A in HCC were explored.

Article Synopsis
  • A clinical trial compared the efficacy and safety of metformin sustained-release (SR) tablets by Dulening and the original metformin tablets by Glucophage in treating type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) with 886 patients involved.
  • Both groups showed similar reductions in glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) levels, fasting blood glucose (FBG), and weight loss after 16 weeks of treatment.
  • However, the Dulening group experienced significantly fewer adverse drug reactions (ADRs), particularly gastrointestinal issues, indicating it may be a safer option.

The aim of this study was to investigate the expression of interferon regulatory factor 4 (IRF4) and the inflammatory response in secondary injury of intracerebral haemorrhage (ICH). Twelve SD rats were randomly divided into a sham group and an ICH group, with 6 rats in each group. A rat model of ICH was established by injecting collagenase type IV into the right striatum of rats.

The stem cell origin theory of endometriosis (EMS) is a significant area of new research but the sources of this have yet to be adequately summarized. Existing treatments for EMS are commonly associated with a high recurrence rate; consequently, there is an urgent need to develop new therapeutic measures for the future treatment of this disease from the view of stem cells and gene therapy. Recently, we described the evidence for the potential sources of EMS stem cells and other key molecules participating in the establishment of lesions, and predict the miRNAs that target these key genes via bioinformatics analysis for further research.

Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is the serious complication of pregnancy induced via dysfunction in glucose metabolism during the pregnancy. Crocetin already proved antidiabetic effect in streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetes mellitus in rats. In this protocol, we have investigated the potential effect of crocetin against STZ-induced GDM in rats.
