Calcium voltage-gated channel auxiliary subunit (α2δ1) is a non-essential subunit of the voltage-gated calcium channel complex and is ubiquitously expressed in a number of tissues, including the brain. Thrombospondin (TSP)1 and TSP2 are extracellular matrix proteins and belong to the multi-domain glycoprotein family of macromolecular oligomers. TSP1/2 and α2δ1 promote synapse formation and functional recovery following cerebral infarction.

Department of Pharmacology, The Key Laboratory of Neural and Vascular Biology, Ministry of Education, The Key Laboratory of New Drug Pharmacology and Toxicology, Hebei Medical University, Shijiazhuang, Hebei, China. Electronic address:

Protein disulfide isomerase (PDI) plays a key role in maintaining cellular homeostasis by mediating protein folding via catalyzing disulfide bond formation, breakage, and rearrangement in the endoplasmic reticulum. Increasing evidence suggests that PDI can be a potential treatment target for several diseases. However, the function of PDI in the peripheral sensory nervous system is unclear.

Background: In recent randomized controlled studies, the prevention of stroke and cognitive function of ticagrelor has been controversial. We conducted a meta-analysis to compare ticagrelor with other antiplatelet treatment in patients with vascular high-risk factors disease, defined as acute coronary syndrome, stroke or transient ischemic attack, coronary artery disease or peripheral artery disease.

Methods: We searched the PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane libraries for published randomized controlled trials and additional available data from ClinicalTrials.

Purpose: We aimed to compare the histological and/or cytological diagnostic outcomes of EUS-FNA using 19G and 22G needles for solid pancreatic lesions and to evaluate the feasibility and safety of 19G needle.

Patients And Methods: Data from patients with solid pancreatic lesions, who underwent EUS-FNA, were retrospectively retrieved from a single tertiary center from June 2017 to January 2021. The sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy of diagnosis, sample adequacy, number and time of punctures, and adverse events, were compared between the 19G and 22G groups.

Acute pancreatitis (AP) is a potentially life-threatening inflammatory disease with multiple etiologies. The prevalence of hypertriglyceridemia-induced acute pancreatitis (HTG-AP) has been increasing in recent years. It is reported that early triglyceride (TG) levels were associated with the severity of the disease, and TG- lowering therapies, including medical treatment and blood purification, may impact the clinical outcomes.

Background: Family with sequence similarity 57 member A (FAM57A) is a membrane associated gene contributing to lung carcinogenesis. In hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and other cancers, whether FAM57A exerts similar roles has been rarely reported. Herein, the biological functions and clinical significance of FAM57A in HCC were explored.

In the present study, we found the expression of miR-15a-5p (miR-15a) was increased in glioma tissues, and we further explore the underlying mechanism of miR-15a in glioma progression. Microarray analysis used to identify the differentially expressed microRNAs (miRNAs) in glioma tissues. The expression of miR-15a in glioma tissues and cell lines was tested by qRT-PCR.

BACKGROUND The Gab1 gene has an important role in cell proliferation in meningioma via various signaling pathways. However, the relationship between polymorphisms of the Gab1 gene and meningioma remains unknown. In this study, we aimed to investigate the plausible association of single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of the Gab1 gene and meningioma risk in a northern Chinese Han population.

Article Synopsis
  • A clinical trial compared the efficacy and safety of metformin sustained-release (SR) tablets by Dulening and the original metformin tablets by Glucophage in treating type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) with 886 patients involved.
  • Both groups showed similar reductions in glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) levels, fasting blood glucose (FBG), and weight loss after 16 weeks of treatment.
  • However, the Dulening group experienced significantly fewer adverse drug reactions (ADRs), particularly gastrointestinal issues, indicating it may be a safer option.

The aim of this study was to investigate the expression of interferon regulatory factor 4 (IRF4) and the inflammatory response in secondary injury of intracerebral haemorrhage (ICH). Twelve SD rats were randomly divided into a sham group and an ICH group, with 6 rats in each group. A rat model of ICH was established by injecting collagenase type IV into the right striatum of rats.

The stem cell origin theory of endometriosis (EMS) is a significant area of new research but the sources of this have yet to be adequately summarized. Existing treatments for EMS are commonly associated with a high recurrence rate; consequently, there is an urgent need to develop new therapeutic measures for the future treatment of this disease from the view of stem cells and gene therapy. Recently, we described the evidence for the potential sources of EMS stem cells and other key molecules participating in the establishment of lesions, and predict the miRNAs that target these key genes via bioinformatics analysis for further research.

Background: Cryptorchidism is a common congenital malformation strongly related to future oligospermia and male infertility. Normally functioning early-stage spermatogonia are vital to ensure fertility. The present study aimed to identify new differentially expressed genes (DEGs) associated with signaling pathways related to spermatogonial stem cell (SSC) maintenance during early spermatogenesis.

Background: The prognostic factors for survival in patients with ependymoma (EPN) remain controversial. The aim of this study was to establish a prognostic model for 5- and 10-year survival probability nomograms for patients with EPN.

Methods: Clinical data from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database were used for patients diagnosed with ependymoma between 2000 and 2018 and were randomized 7:3 into a development set and a validation set.

Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is the serious complication of pregnancy induced via dysfunction in glucose metabolism during the pregnancy. Crocetin already proved antidiabetic effect in streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetes mellitus in rats. In this protocol, we have investigated the potential effect of crocetin against STZ-induced GDM in rats.

Objective: To investigate the relationship between the polymorphism of miR-155 and its target gene MyD88 and clinicopathological features of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL).

Methods: 135 cases of DLBCL patients in our hospital from March 2015 to August 2017 were selected, and 90 cases of reactive hyperplasia of lymph nodes were selected as the control group. The relative expression of miR-155 and MyD88 gene polymorphism were detected in the two groups, and the relationship between miR-155 and MyD88 gene polymorphism and clinicopathological characteristics of DLBCL was analyzed.

Objective: The concept of mesopancreas has been brought into focus nowadays. Studies on membrane morphology of pancreas are clinically significant in determining an ideal surgical route for a "holy plane". In this paper, we aimed to observe the structure of the peripancreatic membranes and its interactions with adjacent tissues; tentatively put forward the proposition of mesohepatopancreaticoduodenum (MHPD) and explore in depth in surgical local resection.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to explore how low oxygen levels (hypoxia) affect the expression of HMGB1 and related inflammatory factors in human pulmonary artery cells.
  • Under hypoxic conditions, both smooth muscle cells (HPASMC) and endothelial cells (HPAEC) showed increased levels of HMGB1 and other inflammatory markers, indicating a response to low oxygen.
  • HMGB1 was found to inhibit the growth of endothelial cells but did not significantly affect the smooth muscle cells; however, hypoxia did stimulate these muscle cells to release inflammatory cytokines.
