Guang'anmen Hospital, China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences Beijing 100053, China.

Hypertension, as the most common and major risk factor in cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, has become a major public health issue facing China, bringing a heavy burden of health economics to the society. However, due to the early and comprehensive intervention with antihypertensive drugs, the pathogenesis of hypertension has undergone profound changes compared with that before. The dizziness in traditional medical texts cannot be completely equated with hypertension, and the understanding of this disease is not limited to traditional pathogeneses such as hyperactivity of liver Yang and internal movement of liver wind.

Objectives: Evidence of the optimal antiplatelet therapy for elderly patients who had a stroke is limited, especially those elder than 80 years. This study aimed to explore the efficacy and safety of dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) in old-old patients compared with younger patients in the ticagrelor or Clopidogrel with aspirin in High-risk patients with Acute Non-disabling Cerebrovascular Events-II (CHANCE-2) trial.

Methods: CHANCE-2 was a randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial in China involving patients with high-risk transient ischaemic attack or minor stroke with CYP2C19 loss-of-function alleles.

BMC Cardiovasc Disord

June 2023

Department of Cardiology, Beijing Anzhen Hospital, Capital Medical University, Beijing Institute of Heart, Lung and Blood Vessel Disease, The Key Laboratory of Remodeling-Related Cardiovascular Disease, Ministry of Education, Beijing, China.

Background: Contrast-induced encephalopathy (CIE) is considered as an uncommon complication following cardiac catheterization. Due to the varied manifestations, CIE has no formal diagnostic criteria. In fact, the incidence of CIE may be greatly underestimated because of the difficulty in its differential diagnosis with other cerebrovascular complications.

Background And Objective: Genotype data of the Clopidogrel with Aspirin in Acute Minor Stroke or Transient Ischemic Attack (CHANCE) trial showed that efficacy of clopidogrel aspirin depended on genotype and risk profile. A stratification of patients who carried loss-of-function (LOF) alleles according to the risk of recurrent stroke may be important for selecting optimal antiplatelet therapy. We aimed to compare the efficacy and safety of ticagrelor aspirin with clopidogrel aspirin in LOF carriers with minor stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA) stratified by risk profile.

Objective: The aim of this study was to identify the disease burden and risk factors of ischemic heart disease (IHD) in China, during 1990-2019, through a systematic analysis using the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) 2019 report in order to provide first-hand information for primary and secondary prevention of IHD in China.

Methods: Data on the rates of incidence, death, years of life lost (YLLs), years lived with disability (YLDs), and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) of IHD were obtained from GBD2019 to determine the disease burden and risk factors of IHD in China.

Results: The rates of incidence, death, YLLs, YLDs, and DALYs of IHD in China increased at different levels during 1990-2019.

Progress of Bulbar Conjunctival Microcirculation Alterations in the Diagnosis of Ocular Diseases.

Dis Markers

September 2022

Department of Ophthalmology, Peking University Third Hospital, Beijing Key Laboratory of Restoration of Damaged Ocular Nerve, Beijing 100191, China.

Bulbar conjunctival microcirculation is a microvascular system distributed in the translucent bulbar conjunctiva near the corneal limbus. Multiple ocular diseases lead to bulbar conjunctival microcirculation alterations, which means that bulbar conjunctival microcirculation alterations would be potential screening and diagnostic indicators for these ocular diseases. In recent years, with the emergence and application of a variety of noninvasive observation devices for bulbar conjunctiva microcirculation and new image processing technologies, studies that explored the potential of bulbar conjunctival microcirculation alterations in the diagnosis of ocular diseases have been emerging.

Background: Kruppel-like factor 4 (KLF4) is a zinc finger-containing transcription factor predominantly expressed in terminally differentiated epithelial tissues. Many studies have shown that KLF4 has various mechanisms in different tumours; however, the prognostic role of KLF4 remains unclear.

Methods And Results: We searched the relevant literature that evaluated the prognostic value of KLF4 in different cancers, and the original survival data were obtained from the text, tables or Kaplan-Meier curves for both comparative groups.

Background: Bony fusion rate was significantly lower in patients with type 3 Modic change than patients with normal endplates. It is not known whether there are relevant differences in fusion efficiency among patients with type 2 sclerotic Modic change or non-sclerotic Modic change, or no Modic change.

Methods: A retrospective study contained 196 lumbar segments in 123 subjects undergoing posterior lumbar interbody fusion (PLIF) with pedicle screw instrumentation (PSI) to assess the effect of type 2 sclerotic Modic change on fusion efficiency.

Syphilis is an important health problem worldwide; however, few studies have probed the impact of syphilitic infection on T cell turnover. The mechanisms behind the frequency of T cell subset changes and the associations between these subsets during syphilitic infection remain unclear. Herein, we used a cell-staining method and flow cytometry to explore changes in T cell subpopulations and potential contribution of apoptosis and pyroptosis that triggered therein.

Current studies have shown that circular RNAs (circRNAs) and microRNAs (miRNAs) are closely related in acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Previous studies have shown that miR-125b promotes fibrosis and up-regulates in cardiac fibroblasts (CFs), and further experiments showed that circ_LAS1L had multiple binding sites of miR-125b, and their expression was inversely related in AMI patients and CFs. RNA immunoprecipitation (RIP), pull down, and dual luciferase reporter gene assay all confirmed that miR-125b directly bound to circ_LAS1L.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to compare the effects of intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy versus tobramycin/dexamethasone with warm compress on inflammation in patients with dry eye disease related to meibomian gland dysfunction.
  • - Eighty-two patients were split into two groups: one received IPL treatment and the other received the medication with warm compresses, with various eye health metrics evaluated before and after treatment.
  • - Results showed that IPL treatment improved tear film stability and meibomian gland function while also reducing specific inflammatory cytokines more effectively than the medication/warm compress approach after one month.

Background: Performance of Pooled Cohort Equations (PCEs) for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) risks varied across populations. Whether the recently developed Prediction for ASCVD Risk in China (China-PAR) model could accurately predict cardiovascular risks in real practice remains unclear.

Methods: A population-based cohort study in rural Beijing in the "stroke belt" in North China was used to externally validate PCE and China-PAR models for 5-year ASCVD risk prediction.

An effective method has been employed as a tool for screening active components in Kudiezi injection by using cell chromatography and sensitive UHPLC-HR-MSn method. The potential bioactive components in Kudiezi injection could be selectively bound to the HUVECs target cells first. After cell target desensitization and inactivation, the chemical constituents with cell target affinity were identified by LC-MS, so as to screen the possible active components in Kudiezi injection.
