Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the role of microRNA (miR)-138 in lung cancer cells, focusing on how it impacts cancer progression.
  • Researchers used various assays to measure gene expression, cell proliferation, apoptosis, and cancer cell migration/invasion, finding that miR-138 levels were lower in cancer cells.
  • Overexpressing miR-138 led to reduced cell proliferation, increased apoptosis, and inhibited metastasis, with its effects linked to the protein SOX4, suggesting miR-138 could be a marker for cancer prognosis and a potential anticancer therapeutic target.

Primary insomnia (PIs) is highly prevalent and can lead to adverse socioeconomic impacts, but the underlying mechanism of its complex brain network impairment remains largely unknown. Functional studies are too few and diverse in methodology, which makes it difficult to glean general conclusions. To answer this question, we first used graph theory-based network analyse, together with seed-based functional connectivity approach, to characterize the topology architecture of whole-brain functional networks associated with PIs.

J Colloid Interface Sci

February 2018

Department of Medical Imaging, Jinling Hospital, School of Medicine, Nanjing University, Nangjing 210002, PR China. Electronic address:

Herein, we demonstrate a coating-etching strategy to directly synthesize hollow Prussian blue (PB) nanocubes with well-dispersed Ag nanoparticles (denoted as Ag-HPB). The method is accomplished by introduction of PB precursors, KFe(CN) and Fe into a reaction system containing AgNO and ascorbic acid, in which a series reactions contain formation of Ag nanoparticles, coating of PB on the nanoparticles, and diffusion of Ag into the PB frameworks occur. The strategy for preparation of the hollow structured Ag-HPB is intrinsically simple and does not require pre-preparation of any sacrificial templates or toxic etching agents.

Baicalin, a flavonoid glycoside separated from Scutellaria baicalensis, has cardioprotection against ischaemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury. Mitochondrial aldehyde dehydrogenase 2 (ALDH2) is considered as an endogenous protective mechanism against I/R injury depending on its anti-oxidant and anti-apoptotic characteristics. The present study demonstrates whether ALDH2 contributes to the cardioprotection of baicalin against hypoxia/reoxygenation (H/R)-inudced H9c2 cardiomyocytes injury.
