Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer‑associated mortality worldwide. Tumor necrosis factor α (TNF‑α) is an important cytokine in the tumor microenvironment that serves a function in the balance of cell survival and cell death pathways. Our previous studies indicated that hypoxia‑inducible factor 1α (HIF‑1α) acts downstream of TNF‑α in MCF‑7 luminal breast cancer cells.

Acute lung injury (ALI) is an inflammatory disorder associated with reduced alveolar-capillary barrier function and increased pulmonary vascular permeability. Vasodilator-stimulated phosphoprotein (VASP) is widely associated with all types of modulations of cytoskeleton rearrangement-dependent cellular morphology and function, such as adhesion, shrinkage, and permeability. The present studies were conducted to investigate the effects and mechanisms by which tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) increases the tight junction permeability in lung tissue associated with acute lung inflammation.

This study was undertaken to observe the effects and the possible mechanism of membrane-cytoskeleton linker ezrin on the chemokine CC chemokine ligand 5 (CCL5)-induced invasive ability in human breast carcinoma MCF-7 cells. RNA interference (RNAi) using ezrin small hairpin RNAs (ezrin shRNA) was used to analyze the role of ezrin in the regulation of this CCL5-induced malignant behavior of MCF-7 cells. The effects of recombinant human CCL5 (rhCCL5) on the cell's invasive ability were detected by transwell assay.

This study was undertaken to observe the effects and possible mechanism of CC chemokine ligand 5 (CCL5) on invasion, proliferation and percentage of CD44+/CD24- subpopulation of human breast cancer line MCF-7 and to investigate the correlation of expression levels of CCL5 and its receptors with the progression of breast cancer. We used real-time RT-PCR to detect the expression levels of CCL5 and its receptors CCR5, CCR1 and CCR3 in 36 breast cancer specimens of different TNM stage and their corresponding normal breast tissue. CCL5 expression and invasive ability of four human breast cancer cell lines MCF-7, SK-BR-3, T-47D and MDA-MB-231 were analyzed by real-time RT-PCR and cell invasion assay, respectively.
