With the high incidence of urogenital tumors worldwide, urinary system tumors are among the top 10 most common tumors in men, with prostate cancer ranking first and bladder cancer fourth. Patients with resistant urogenital tumors often have poor prognosis. In recent years, researchers have discovered numerous specific cancer antigens, which has led to the development of several new anti-cancer drugs.

Patients diagnosed with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) often present with multimorbidity, significantly contributing to adverse outcomes, particularly in-hospital mortality. This study aimed to develop a predictive nomogram to assess the impact of comorbidities on in-hospital mortality risk in HCC patients undergoing palliative locoregional therapy. We retrospectively analyzed data from 345 hospitalized HCC patients who underwent palliative locoregional therapy between January 2015 and December 2022.

A tumor-like renal arteriovenous malformation on F-PSMA-1007 PET/CT: a case report.

Front Med (Lausanne)

May 2024

Department of Nuclear Medicine, the First College of Clinical Medical Science, China Three Gorges University, Yichang, Hubei, China.

Background: Renal arteriovenous malformations (rAVMs) are congenital abnormal pathways between renal arteries and veins that are rare in the general population. It is often misdiagnosed as malignant renal tumors with abundant blood supply, and the definitive diagnosis primarily relies on angiography. Multimodality imaging, including contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and positron emission tomography (PET)/CT plays an important role in the differential diagnosis of renal space-occupying lesions.

This paper aims to analyse the active components of (SC) by network pharmacology and screen the most stable compounds with tumour necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) by molecular docking to explore the mechanisms of SC treatment of recurrent spontaneous abortion (RSA) and provide a theoretical basis for drug development. The active compounds of SC and the potential inflammatory targets of RSA were obtained from the Traditional Chinese Medicine Systems Pharmacology database and GeneCards, respectively. The RSA-SC target gene interaction network was obtained and visualized using the STRING database and Cytoscape software.

Background: Pulmonary embolism (PE) is a severe and acute cardiovascular syndrome with high mortality among patients with autoimmune inflammatory rheumatic diseases (AIIRDs). Accurate prediction and timely intervention play a pivotal role in enhancing survival rates. However, there is a notable scarcity of practical early prediction and risk assessment systems of PE in patients with AIIRD.

Background: Astragaloside IV (AS-IV) is the most active monomer in the traditional Chinese herbal medicine Radix Astragali, which has a wide range of antiviral, anti-inflammatory, and antifibrosis pharmacological effects, and shows protective effects in acute lung injury.

Methods: This study utilized the immunofluorescence, flow cytometry, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction, western blot, and hematoxylin and eosin staining methods to investigate the mechanism of AS-IV in reducing viral pneumonia caused by influenza A virus in A549 cells and BALB/c mice.

Results: The results showed that AS-IV suppressed reactive oxygen species production in influenza virus-infected A549 cells in a dose-dependent manner, and subsequently inhibited the activation of nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain-like receptor thermal protein domain associated protein 3 inflammasome and Caspase-1, decreased interleukin (IL) -1β and IL-18 secretion.

Article Synopsis
  • * Icariin (ICA), derived from traditional Chinese medicine, converts to Icaritin (ICT) in the body and has shown potential in protecting neurons from damage during stroke, but its exact mechanism is not fully understood.
  • * In laboratory studies, ICT was found to reduce oxidative damage and apoptosis in neuronal cells, and in animal models, it improved neurological function and decreased brain infarct volume after ischemic injury.

Background: Primary immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) is an autoimmune disease, and rituximab (RTX) induces long-term effect as second-line treatments. Zuberitamab is an innovative anti-CD20 monoclonal antibody, which was first developed in China and launched in diffuse large B lymphoma. This study aimed to investigate the safety, efficacy, and anticipated therapeutic dose of zuberitamab in Chinese ITP patients.

Background: Mechanical ventilation (MV) is often required in critically ill patients. However, prolonged mechanical ventilation can lead to Ventilator-induced diaphragmatic dysfunction (VIDD), resulting in difficulty in extubation after tracheal intubation, prolonged ICU stay, and increased mortality. At present, the incidence of diabetes is high in the world, and the prognosis of diabetic patients with mechanical ventilation is generally poor.

Type 2 diabetes mediates the causal relationship between obesity and osteomyelitis: A Mendelian randomization study.

Medicine (Baltimore)

May 2024

Department of Orthopaedics, The First College of Clinical Medical Science, China Three Gorges University, Yichang, China.

Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis was used to determine the causal relationship between Type 2 diabetes (T2D) and osteomyelitis (OM). We performed MR analysis using pooled data from different large-scale genome-wide association studies (GWAS). Instrumental variables were selected based on genome-wide significance, instrumental strength was assessed using F-values, and thresholds for the number of exposed phenotypes were further adjusted by Bonferroni correction.

Background: Motor impairment is the most prevalent consequence following a stroke. Interhemispheric homotopic connectivity, which varies regionally and hierarchically along the axis of the somatomotor-association cortex, plays a critical role in sustaining normal motor functions. However, the impact of strokes occurring in various locations on homotopic connectivity is not fully understood.

Prion diseases, such as scrapie, entail the accumulation of disease-specific prion protein () within the brain. Toll-like receptors (TLRs) are crucial components of the pattern recognition system. They recognize pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs) and play a central role in orchestrating host innate immune responses.

Hubei Key Laboratory of Tumor Microenvironment and Immunotherapy, Three Gorges University, Yichang, 443002, Hubei, China.

Article Synopsis
  • Researchers created and tested a deep convolutional neural network (DCNN) model to identify conditions like spondylolysis and spondylolisthesis using X-ray images of the lumbar region.
  • They analyzed 2449 X-ray images, categorizing them into normal and abnormal cases, and used the EfficientNetV2-M network to train the model on these images.
  • The DCNN model outperformed human diagnoses, achieving a 92% accuracy, and its performance was visually analyzed using Grad-CAM to highlight important areas for detection.
