Case report: F-FDG PET/CT skeletal superscan-like in an adult patient with acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

Front Oncol

July 2024

Department of Nuclear Medicine, The First College of Clinical Medical Science, China Three Gorges University, Yichang, China.

We herein describe a rare case of adult acute lymphoblastic leukemia with an florine-fluorodeoxyglucose (F-FDG) positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) skeletal superscan-like appearance. The degree of bone marrow uptake was so intense that it far exceeded the level of physiological cerebral uptake and radiourinary activity. The distribution was remarkably similar to a superscan seen on skeletal scintigraphy.

Background: The protection of the diabetic kidney by Empagliflozin (EMPA) is attributed to its interaction with the sodium glucose cotransporter 2 located on proximal tubular epithelial cells (PTECs). Estrogen-related receptor α (ESRRA), known for its high expression in PTECs and association with mitochondrial biogenesis, plays a crucial role in this process. This study aimed to explore the impact of ESRRA on mitochondrial mass in diabetic tubular injury and elucidate the mechanism underlying the protective effects of EMPA.

Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) and autoimmune gastritis (AIG) are both autoimmune diseases (ADs) that have a low prevalence in China. Both conditions involve the immune system mistakenly attacking the body's own tissues. GBS primarily affects the peripheral nervous system, leading to muscle weakness and paralysis, while AIG targets the stomach lining, causing inflammation and reduced absorption of vital nutrients.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a prevalent and aggressive malignancy characterized by a complex tumor microenvironment (TME). Given the variations in the level of adipocyte infiltration in TME, the prognosis may differ among CRC patients. Thus, there is an urgent need to establish a reliable method for identifying adipocyte subtypes in CRC in order to elucidate the impact of adipocyte infiltration on CRC treatment and prognosis.

BACKGROUND Cryptococcosis is an opportunistic fungal infection that typically occurs in patients with compromised immune systems, primarily affecting the respiratory and central nervous systems. However, cryptococcal osteomyelitis is a rare manifestation of cryptococcal infection, characterized by nonspecific clinical features. Here, we present a case of vertebral cryptococcal osteomyelitis in a middle-aged woman and discuss diagnostic approaches.

Background: Synchronous liver metastasis (SLM) is a significant contributor to morbidity in colorectal cancer (CRC). There are no effective predictive device integration algorithms to predict adverse SLM events during the diagnosis of CRC.

Aim: To explore the risk factors for SLM in CRC and construct a visual prediction model based on gray-level co-occurrence matrix (GLCM) features collected from magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

Analysis of cancer-specific survival in patients with metastatic colorectal cancer: A evidence-based medicine study.

World J Gastrointest Surg

June 2024

Department of Oncology, The First College of Clinical Medical Science, China Three Gorges University & Yichang Central People's Hospital, Yichang 443000, Hubei Province, China.

Article Synopsis
  • Metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) poses significant treatment challenges, and understanding cancer-specific survival (CSS) is vital for predicting patient outcomes, though research in this area remains limited.
  • * To enhance CSS prediction, researchers created a new nomogram model and risk grading system, utilizing data from the US Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database (2018-2023) and employing the Cox proportional hazards model for analysis.
  • * Results showed promising discrimination capabilities for the nomogram, outperforming traditional cancer staging methods, and effectively categorizing patients into low, medium, and high-risk groups with median CSS times differing significantly among them.

Objective: There are few existing studies that investigate the risk of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) associated with long-term exposure to air pollutants. This study aimed to explore associations between long-term exposure to air pollutants and incident SLE and further evaluate interactions and joint effects of genetic risk and air pollutants.

Methods: A total of 459,815 participants were included from UK Biobank.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to assess the stability of complex acetabular fractures using a new titanium plate screw system (DAPSQ) in cadaver pelvic models, simulating both standing and sitting positions.
  • - Eight preserved cadaver pelvises were used to create fracture models, comparing the biomechanical responses of these fractures to normal hips under physiological loads of 400 to 700 N.
  • - Results indicated that no fixation failures occurred during testing, with minimal horizontal displacement (less than 1 mm) observed, while greater longitudinal displacement was noted at higher loads in the fractured models, suggesting varying stability based on positioning and load.

Additional chromosomal abnormalities(ACAs) at diagnosis are associated with inferior prognosis in chronic myeloid leukemia. However, the prognostic significance of ACAs in adult patients with Philadelphia Chromosome Positive acute lymphoblastic leukemia (Ph + ALL) receiving TKI-targeted drugs and allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation(HSCT) is unknown. One hundred thirty-six adult patients with Ph + ALL were included in the study and retrospectively analysed, evaluating the effect of ACAs on outcomes of transplantation.

Tuberculosis, caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb), still ranks among the leading causes of annual human death by infectious disease. Mtb has developed several strategies to survive for years at a time within the host despite the presence of a robust immune response, including manipulating the progression of the inflammatory response and forming granulomatous lesions. Here we demonstrate that IQGAP1, a highly conserved scaffolding protein, compartmentalizes and coordinates multiple signaling pathways in macrophages infected with Mycobacterium marinum (Mm or M.

The prognosis of patients with human papillomavirus (HPV)‑negative cervical cancer is significantly worse than that of patients with HPV‑positive cervical cancer. Understanding the mechanisms of this is crucial for preventing disease evolution. In the present study, the GV367‑snail family transcriptional repressor 2 (SNAI2) lentiviral vector was constructed and transduced into C‑33A cells.
