Aims: Ventricular arrhythmias (VAs), which can lead to sudden cardiac death, are the primary cause of mortality in patients with heart failure (HF). However, the precise mechanisms underlying these arrhythmias are not well understood. Recent studies have implicated tumor necrosis factor alpha-induced protein 3-interacting protein 3 (TNIP3) in pathological cardiac hypertrophy.

The delivery of accurate diagnoses is crucial in healthcare and represents the gateway to appropriate and timely treatment. Although recent large language models (LLMs) have demonstrated impressive capabilities in few-shot or zero-shot learning, their effectiveness in clinical diagnosis remains unproven. Here we present MedFound, a generalist medical language model with 176 billion parameters, pre-trained on a large-scale corpus derived from diverse medical text and real-world clinical records.

Bladder cancer (BCa) is a common and lethal disease characterized by high recurrence rates and limited treatment options. Understanding the molecular pathways of BCa progress is crucial for investigating more effective targeted therapies. While ADAMTS12 is known to contribute to cancer progression and treatment resistance, its prognostic significance and underlying mechanisms in BCa remain poorly understood.

Background: Maslinic acid (MA), a pentacyclic triterpenoid compound derived from leaves and fruits of Olea europaea, bears multi-pharmacological properties. Our previous studies found that MA exerted a cardioprotective effect by modulating oxidative stress, inflammation, and apoptosis during myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury (MIRI). Nevertheless, data regarding the anti-ferroptosis effects of MA on MI/RI remains unidentified.

Background: CD133 is regarded as a marker and target for cancer stem cells (CSCs) in various types of tumors, including hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The expressions of CD133 and programmed cell death ligand 1 (PD-L1) in CSCs exhibit a positive feedback regulatory effect. This effect promotes CSC proliferation and immune escape, ultimately leading to tumor progression and poor prognosis.

Background: The efficacy of the 14-day esomeprazole-amoxicillin (EA) dual therapy in eradicating () has been widely discussed previously. Vonoprazan, a novel potassium-competitive acid blocker, presents rapid, potent, and long-lasting acid inhibitory effects compared to esomeprazole. However, there is currently a scarcity of direct comparisons between the 10-day vonoprazan-amoxicillin (VA) and the 14-day EA dual therapy for eradication.

Analysis of the efficacy and factors affecting the prognosis of intracranial dissecting aneurysm treated with multi-stent overlap technique.

BMC Neurol

December 2024

Department of Neurological Surgery, The First College of Clinical Medical Science, China Three Gorges University, Yichang Central People's Hospital, 183 Yiling Avenue, Yichang City, Wujiagang District, China.

Objective: The study aims to identify characteristics that impact the postoperative prognosis and recurrence of intracranial dissecting aneurysms (IDA) patients treated using multi-stent overlapping techniques.

Methods: Clinical data from 69 IDA patients treated with multistate-assisted spring coil embolization at the hospital between January 2017 and October 2023 were retrospectively reviewed, including clinical and imaging data gathered at admission and discharge. The prognosis was determined based on mRS grade at discharge, and the patients were divided into excellent prognosis (mRS 0-2 points) and poor prognosis (mRS 3-6 points).

December 2024

The Research Center for Traditional Chinese Medicine, Shanghai Institute of Infectious Diseases and Biosecurity, Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Shanghai, 201203, People's Republic of China.

Objective: Qingdai (QD) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) commonly used in clinical practice to treat acute lung injury/acute respiratory distress syndrome (ALI/ARDS). However, the mechanisms underlying the effects of QD remain not fully understood. This investigation demonstrated QD alleviated LPS-induced ALI in mice and exerted anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting the JAK2/STAT3 signaling pathway.

The Predictive Value of Preoperative Systemic Immune-Inflammation Index in Patients with Granulomatous Mastitis.

J Inflamm Res

December 2024

Department of Thyroid and Breast Surgery, The First College of Clinical Medical Science, China Three Gorges University, Yichang, 443022, People's Republic of China.

Purpose: The systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) comprehensively reflects the balance between immune status and host inflammation. We aimed to investigate the potential predictive value of the SII in the prognosis of granulomatous mastitis (GM).

Patients And Methods: We enrolled 245 patients with GM who underwent surgery between 2015 and 2020 in this study.

Purpose: The systemic inflammation response index (SIRI) has recently emerged as a novel inflammatory and prognostic marker across various diseases. However, there is limited research examining the relationship between SIRI and 90-day functional outcome in patients with acute large vessel occlusion stroke (ALVOS) undergoing mechanical thrombectomy (MT). This study aimed to investigate the potential of SIRI as an innovative, inflammation-based predictor of 90-day functional outcome.

The First College of Clinical Medical Science, China Three Gorges University, Yichang, Hubei Province, 443000, China.

Background: Yersinia pseudotuberculosis is an emerging zoonotic intestinal pathogen primarily transmitted through contaminated food and water. Infections caused by Yersinia pseudotuberculosis are typically self-limiting, often presenting as gastroenteritis or "pseudoappendicitis," which is characterized by fever and abdominal pain. Although bloodstream infections with Yersinia pseudotuberculosis are rare, they can lead to multiple distant sites of infection, including abscesses in the liver, spleen, and kidneys, as well as in the hip and knee joints, particularly in individuals with underlying immunodeficiency.
