Objective: To evaluate the risk factors contributing to preoperative malnutrition in elderly patients with hip fractures.
Methods: The study retrospectively analysed clinical data from 182 elderly patients aged 60 years or older with hip fractures. Nutritional status was assessed according to the Global Leadership Initiative on Malnutrition diagnostic criteria, and risk factors associated with malnutrition were identified through univariate and logistic regression analyses.

The extracellular matrix (ECM) is a network of proteins and other molecules that encase and support cells and tissues in the body. As clinical and biotechnological uses of ECM are expanding, it is essential to assess the environmental impact associated with its production. Due to high levels of customization, various laboratories employ distinct methods; therefore, this study evaluates three common protocols.

Gastric cancer (GC), one of the most common and heterogeneous malignancies, is the second leading cause of cancer death worldwide and is closely related to dietary habits. Fatty acid is one of the main nutrients of human beings, which is closely related to diabetes, hypertension and other diseases. However, the correlation between fatty acid metabolism and the development and progression of GC remains largely unknown.

Background: Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is a common hematologic malignancy. Although previous research has explored associations between plasma proteins and CLL, the causal relationships remain unclear. This study used Mendelian randomization (MR) to investigate the causal relationship between 7156 plasma proteins and CLL risk.

Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is a malignant tumor of the renal tubular epithelial cells with a relatively high incidence rate worldwide. A large number of studies have indicated that dysregulation of the ubiquitination, including ubiquitination and dysregulation, is associated with the occurrence and development of RCC. This review focuses on several abnormal signaling pathways caused by E3 ligases and deubiquitinases.

Background: Autosomal recessive congenital ichthyosis (ARCI) is a group of genetic skin disorders characterized by abnormal keratinization, leading to significant health issues and reduced quality of life. ARCI encompasses harlequin ichthyosis (HI), congenital ichthyosiform erythroderma (CIE), and lamellar ichthyosis (LI). While all ARCI genes are linked to LI and CIE, HI is specifically associated with severe mutations in the gene.

This study investigated the association between NAFLD and liver fibrosis and the ratio of gamma-glutamyl transferase to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (GGT/HDL-C). In this cross-sectional study, we included 4764 subjects who participated in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) during 2017-2018. Adjusted multivariate logistic regression analysis was utilized to evaluate the relationships between GGT/HDL-C levels and NAFLD, fatty liver degree, and liver fibrosis.

Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been recognized as essential regulators in various human malignancies. Hundreds of lncRNAs were known to be abnormally expressed in renal cell carcinoma (RCC) through a lncRNA expression microarray, among which lncRNA OSTM1 antisense RNA 1(OSTM1-AS1) was revealed as one of the most abundant lncRNAs. However, the function of OSTM1-AS1 in RCC remains unknown.

Background: Insulin resistance (IR) contributes substantially to the development of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and metabolic disorders, particularly obesity. The homeostatic model assessment of IR is a prevalent IR indicator, but insulin measurement is quite impractical for widely use. Given its convenience and accessibility, the triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index, along with modified indices such as the triglyceride-glucose-waist circumference (TyG-WC) and triglyceride-glucose-waist-height ratio (TyG-WHtR), are gaining recognition as practical tools for assessing IR.

Short stature, joint hyperextension, ocular hypotension, Rieger abnormalities, and delayed tooth eruption (SHORT) syndrom is a rare primary autosomal dominant genetic disorder mainly caused by pathogenic loss-of-function variants in the phosphoinositide-3-kinase regulatory subunit 1 (PIK3R1) gene. We report the case of a Chinese adult female patient with SHORT syndrome, carrying a PIK3R1 gene variant (c.1945C > T), who developed abnormal glucose metabolism and severe postprandial insulin resistance over 9 years.

R-loops are critical structures that play pivotal roles in regulating genomic stability and modulating gene expression. This study investigates the interactions between the 5-methylcytosine (mC) methyltransferase NOP2/Sun RNA methyltransferase 2 (NSUN2) and R-loops in the transcriptional dynamics and damage repair process of bladder cancer (BCa) cells. We observed markedly elevated levels of R-loops in BCa cells relative to normal urothelial cells.

Background: Accumulating studies have focused on long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) because of their regulatory effects on multiple cancers. However, the biological functions and molecular mechanisms of lncRNAs in gastric cancer (GC) remain to be elucidated in depth.
Methods: Long intergenic nonprotein coding RNA 1094 (LINC01094), a differentially expressed lncRNA between GC tissues and adjacent normal tissues, was identified.
