  • Intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) is a very aggressive cancer that can spread easily and has a low survival rate.
  • The study looked at a protein called heparanase (HPSE) that is found in high levels in ICC and helps cancer cells grow while making it harder for treatments to work.
  • Researchers found that blocking the effects of HPSE and targeting another protein called Bcl-2 could help make chemotherapy more effective for patients with this type of cancer.

Ficolin-A/2 Aggravates Severe Lung Injury through Neutrophil Extracellular Traps Mediated by Gasdermin D-Induced Pyroptosis.

Am J Pathol

June 2024

Hunan Provincial People's Hospital, The First Affiliated Hospital of Hunan Normal University, Changsha, China; Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, The Second Affiliated Hospital, Hengyang Medical School, University of South China, Hengyang, China. Electronic address:

Neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) and pyroptosis are critical events in lung injury. This study investigated whether ficolin-A influenced NET formation through pyroptosis to exacerbate lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced lung injury. The expression of ficolin-A/2, NETs, and pyroptosis-related molecules was investigated in animal and cell models.

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is an aggressive malignancy with a 5 year survival rate less than 12%. This malignancy is closely related to the unique tumor microenvironment (TME), which is characterized by a hypovascular and hyperdense extracellular matrix, making it difficult for drugs to permeate the tumor center. Near-infrared fluorescence (NIRF) imaging, which has high sensitivity and resolution, may improve the survival rate of PDAC patients.

Objective: Infectious pancreatic necrosis (IPN) is a serious complication of acute pancreatitis, and early recognition and timely intervention are the keys to improving clinical outcomes. The purpose of this study was to investigate the predictive capacity of the neutrophil CD64 index (nCD64 index) on IPN in patients with acute pancreatitis METHODS: This study comprises two independent cohorts: the training cohort consisted of 202 patients from Hunan Provincial People's Hospital, and the validation cohort consisted of 100 patients from Changsha Central Hospital. Peripheral blood samples were collected on the day of admission and on the 3rd, 5th, 7th, and 10th days of hospitalization, and the nCD64 index was detected by flow cytometry.

February 2024

Department of Comprehensive Surgery, Hunan Provincial People's Hospital, The First Affiliated Hospital of Hunan Normal University, 410005, Changsha, Hunan, P.R. China.

Vagococcus fluvialis infection is rare in humans, and there is limited research on the clinical manifestations and antimicrobial susceptibility testing of Vagococcus fluvialis infection. Here, We isolated Vagococcus fluvialis from the urine samples of bladder cancer patients at Hunan Provincial People's Hospital, and it is the first reported case of Vagococcus fluvialis isolated from the urine. The fully automated microbial identification system and matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) identified the bacterium as Vagococcus fluvialis with a confidence level of 99.

Recent studies found that non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) played crucial roles in drug addiction through epigenetic regulation of gene expression and underlying drug-induced neuroadaptations. In this study, we characterized lncRNA transcriptome profiles in the nucleus accumbens (NAc) of mice exhibiting morphine-conditioned place preference (CPP) and explored the prospective roles of novel differentially expressed lncRNA, lncLingo2 and its derived miR-876-5p in the acquisition of opioids-associated behaviours. We found that the lncLingo2 was downregulated within the NAc core (NAcC) but not in the NAc shell (NAcS).
