Metabotropic glutamate receptor 1 (mGlu1 receptor) is expressed in many cancer cell types as compared to normal counterparts underscoring its potential role in tumor behavior. The aim of present study was to test the role of mGlu1 receptor in experimental non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). First, protein expression of mGlu1 receptor was higher in human NSCLC cell lines, including both adenocarcinoma and squamous carcinoma subtypes, when compared to normal bronchial epithelial cells.

This study aims to evaluate clinical efficacy of short segment pedicle screw fixation without bone fusion for unstable thoracolumbar burst fracture. Nineteen patients younger than 40 years old with unstable thoracolumbar burst fractures were included. The surgical procedure included postural reduction for 3 days and screw fixations at one level above, one level below and at the fractured level itself.

Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is one of the most common diseases encountered in medical oncology practice. The aim of the present study was to test the antitumour effects of short-hairpin RNA targeting aquaporin 3 (AQP3) in experimental NSCLC. Expression of AQP3 was suppressed in human A549 and H1299 NSCLC cell lines by short-hairpin RNA-mediated silencing.

Objective: To investigate the effect of transrectal ultrasound-guided microwave ablation of canine prostate tissue.

Methods: Guided by transrectal ultrasound, we conducted microwave ablation on each side of the prostate in 12 male dogs, 6 at 40 W/ 120 s (group A) and the other 6 at 40 W/160 s (group B), and observed the changes in the thermal lesions using grayscale ultrasound. After thermal ablation, we measured the volume of the thermal lesions by contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS).

Purpose: Our goal was to observe the midterm results of a case series of Denis type B thoracolumbar burst fracture treated with anterior decompression with single segmental spinal Interbody fusion.

Methods: Twenty patients with Denis type B thoracolumbar burst fractures underwent anterior decompression with single segmental spinal Interbody fusion. They underwent clinical and radiologic follow-up for at least three years after the surgery.

Background And Objective: Lung cancer stem cells are the root causes of lung cancer malignant phenotype and potential therapeutic target, the aim of this study is to isolate and characterize the cancer stem cells in the lung adenoearcinomas cell line A549, so as to provide an experimental basis for further stem cell research.

Methods: The cancer stem cells were isolated from the lung adenoearcinomas cell line A549 using FACS. And the difference of colony formation, cell proliferation and tumorigenicity in vitro were also tested.

This study aimed to identify the optimal neural progenitor cell transplantation time for spinal cord injury in rats via the subarachnoid space. Cultured neural progenitor cells from 14-day embryonic rats, constitutively expressing enhanced green fluorescence protein, or media alone, were injected into the subarachnoid space of adult rats at 1 hour (acute stage), 7 days (subacute stage) and 28 days (chronic stage) after contusive spinal cord injury. Results showed that grafted neural progenitor cells migrated and aggregated around the blood vessels of the injured region, and infiltrated the spinal cord parenchyma along the tissue spaces in the acute stage transplantation group.

Aim: Sirtuin 1 (Sirt1) is the class III histone/protein deacetylase that interferes with the NF-κB signaling pathway, thereby has anti-inflammatory function. This study was undertaken to investigate whether Sirt1 could protect osteoblasts against TNF-α-induced injury in vitro.

Methods: Murine osteoblastic cell line, MC3T3-E1, was used.

The purpose of the present study is to test whether chemically extracted acellular nerve segments can be used to repair the sciatic nerve gap. Fifteen canines were divided into acellular nerve allografting group (ANG, six canines), autografting group (AG, six canines), and fresh nerve allografting group (FNG, three canines). The sciatic nerves on the right side of the animals were exposed, and 5-cm-long segments of the nerves were removed from the midthigh level and replaced by the three types of grafts.
