Aortic Periannular Abscess Missed by Transthoracic Echocardiography: A Case Report.

An aortic periannular abscess (PA) is a critical consequence of infective endocarditis (IE). In our case report, the patient's clinical symptoms were only fever, cough, and shortness of breath. He was then diagnosed with aortic PA, which was overlooked in the initial TTE assessment but later identified through transesophageal echocardiography (TEE).

Predicting angiogenesis in adrenal pheochromocytoma: the role of modified parameters from contrast-enhanced CT.

Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate the value of modified parameters derived from dual-phase contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) in predicting angiogenesis within pheochromocytoma.

Method: A total of 31 patients with pathologically confirmed pheochromocytoma underwent preoperative dual-phase contrast-enhanced CT scanning, wherein modified CT enhancement parameters, namely maximum enhancement difference (∆H) and maximum enhancement velocity (V), were quantified. Subsequently, postoperative specimens were evaluated by pathological section, while microvessel density (MVD) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) levels were counted.

Immunoglobulin class-switch recombination: Mechanism, regulation, and related diseases.

Maturation of the secondary antibody repertoire requires class-switch recombination (CSR), which switches IgM to other immunoglobulins (Igs), and somatic hypermutation, which promotes the production of high-affinity antibodies. Following immune response or infection within the body, activation of T cell-dependent and T cell-independent antigens triggers the activation of activation-induced cytidine deaminase, initiating the CSR process. CSR has the capacity to modify the functional properties of antibodies, thereby contributing to the adaptive immune response in the organism.

Computed tomography enteroclysis combined with double-balloon endoscopy is beneficial to the diagnosis of small bowel submucosal tumors.

Aim: To compare the effectiveness and diagnostic accuracy of computed tomography enteroclysis (CTE), double-balloon endoscopy (DBE), and CTE with DBE (CTE/DBE) for detecting submucosal tumors (SMTs) in the small intestine.

Methods: The clinical data of 42 patients with pathologically confirmed small bowel SMTs seen at Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University between March 2012 and October 2020 were retrospectively analyzed. The value of CTE and DBE for detecting small bowel SMTs was then compared.

Background: T cells express interleukin-2 inducible T-cell kinase (ITK), which is an essential modulator of T-cell signaling and function. However, the role of ITK in solid organ transplantation has not been investigated to date. Here, we studied the function of ITK in a murine cardiac transplantation model.

The expression of the circadian gene TIMELESS in non-small-cell lung cancer and its clinical significance.

We aimed to explore the relationship between the circadian gene TIMELESS (TIM) in non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and prognosis, so as to provide a reference for subsequent targeted therapy and patient prognosis. A total of 72 patients with NSCLC were selected as the study cohort. Immunohistochemistry and Western blot were used to measure the expressions of TIM in NSCLC and para-carcinoma tissues (PCT).
