Less invasive fixation techniques, such as intramedullary nailing (IMN) and minimally invasive percutaneous plate osteosynthesis (MIPPO), are now the preferred choices for treating tibia shaft fractures (TSFs). However, malreduction and radiation exposure are the main deficiencies associated with less invasive fixation techniques, especially when assessing rotation around the shaft axis intra-operatively. The purpose of this study was to investigate the feasibility and reduction accuracy of an innovative technology that integrates robotics and 3D printing for achieving anatomical reduction of TSFs with MIPPO.

Ambient air pollutants exposures may lead to aggravated Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Fatty Liver Disease (MAFLD). However, there is still a scarcity of empirical studies that have rigorously estimated this association, especially in regions where air pollution is severe. To fill in the literature gap, we conducted a cross-sectional study involving 2711,207 adults living in five regions of southern Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region in 2021.

The present study aimed to investigate the association between atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) T2238C (rs5065) gene polymorphism and the risk of cardiovascular disease. Relevant literature was obtained by searching databases. The odds ratios (ORs) of the ANP T2238C locus genotype distribution in the case group of cardiovascular diseases and the control group of a non-cardiovascular population were pooled using R software.

Background: Acute graft-versus-host disease (aGVHD) arises from the imbalance of host T cells. Galectin-9 negatively regulates CD4 effector T cell (Th1 and Th17) function by binding to Tim-3. However, the relationship between Galectin-9/Tim-3 and CD4 T subsets in patients with aGVHD after Haplo-HSCT (haploidentical peripheral blood hematopoietic stem cell transplantation) has not been fully elucidated.

Background: Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (LRYGB) and laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) are the two most frequently performed techniques in treating obesity and its related comorbidities. We aimed to compare the clinical efficacy and safety of LSG with LRYGB in terms of short- and mid-term outcomes of weight loss, obesity-related comorbidities, and post-operative complications via a meta-analysis of RCTs.

Methods: Clinical comparative RCTs on LSG and LRYGB were searched through PubMed, MEDLINE, and Web of Science databases from inception to August 2022.

This study assessed the application of prophylactic percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (pPEG) in patients with newly diagnosed oral cancer (OC) who underwent surgery and were ready for subsequential chemoradiation. In total, 113 patients who underwent OC surgical treatment were divided into pPEG (n = 26), nasogastric tube (n = 54), and oral feeding (n = 33) groups. Their baseline characteristics, surgery-related outcomes, and nutritional data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon rank-sum test and χ2 test.

The enzyme glutamate-cysteine ligase modifier subunit (GCLM) serves as the initial rate-limiting factor in glutathione (GSH) synthesis. GSH is the preferred substrate for glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4), directly impacting its activity and stability. This study aims to elucidate the expression of GCLM and its correlation with the nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (NFE2L2), commonly referred to as NRF2, in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) and further investigate the potential signaling axis of radiotherapy resistance caused by NRF2-mediated regulation of ferroptosis in ESCC.

To establish an acute graft-versus-host disease (aGVHD) model in aged mice after non-myeloablative haploidentical peripheral blood stem cell transplantation (haplo-PSCT). C57BL/6 (H-2) male mice aged 6-8 weeks were used as donor mice, and CB6F1 (H-2) female mice aged 14-16 months were used as recipient mice. The donor mice were injected subcutaneously with rehuman granulocyte-colony stimulating factor (rhG-CSF) 5 days before transplantation for hematopoietic stem cell mobilization.

Background: Recent studies suggested inconclusive associations between bisphenols exposure and hyperuricemia risk. Our objective was to assess the potential association of bisphenol A (BPA) and its substitutes bisphenol S and F (BPS and BPF) exposure with serum uric acid (SUA) levels, hyperuricemia, and gout prevalence among US adults within the NHANES 2013-2016 datasets.

Methods: Multivariable linear and logistic regression models were used to explore the associations of urinary bisphenols concentrations with SUA levels, hyperuricemia, and gout prevalence, in total population and different sex groups.

To compare the merits and drawbacks of three approaches for establishing a rabbit model of nonobstructive coronary microcirculatory disease, namely, open thoracic subtotal ligation of coronary arteries, ultrasound-guided cardiac microsphere injection, and sodium laurate injection. New Zealand rabbits were allocated to four groups: a normal group (Blank group), an Open-chest group (Open-chest), a microsphere group (Echo-M), and a sodium laurate group (Echo-SL), each comprising 10 rabbits. The rabbits were sacrificed 24 h after the procedures, and their echocardiography, stress myocardial contrast echocardiography, pathology, and surgical times were compared.

The glomerular filtration barrier, comprising the inner layer of capillary fenestrated endothelial cells, outermost podocytes, and the glomerular basement membrane between them, plays a pivotal role in kidney function. Podocytes, terminally differentiated epithelial cells, are challenging to regenerate once injured. They are essential for maintaining the integrity of the glomerular filtration barrier.
