Doxorubicin (DOX), a broad-spectrum chemotherapeutic agent for various cancers, has limited clinical application because of its serious cardiotoxicity, which is due to different mechanisms, including cardiac ferroptosis and oxidative stress. Some drugs, such as berberine or dioscin, show efficacy in impeding DOX-induced cardiotoxicity by activating Sirtuin 1 (Sirt1). However, there is no direct evidence to clarify the role of Sirt1 in DOX-induced cardiomyopathy and its underlying role in cardiac ferroptosis.

In this paper, the MRI manifestations of 15 patients with benzene toxic encephalopathy were analyzed, and the lesion location, shape, scope and signal were observed. The clinical manifestations of 15 patients were mainly central nervous system damage, and the MRI manifestations were characteristic, with a wide range of lesions, and the shapes were "sunflower-like", "flame-like", "bracket-like" and "butterfly-like", and the MRI signal was sheet-like long T(1), long T(2), fluid attenuated inversion recovery (FLAIR) sequence and diffusion weighted imaging (DWI) high signal, apparent diffusion coeffecient (ADC) map low, equal or high signals. When the patient's diagnosis is unclear, MRI examination may provide clinical basis for diagnosis.

Background: Lipusu is the first commercialized liposomal formulation of paclitaxel and has demonstrated promising efficacy against locally advanced lung squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC) in a small-scale study. Here, we conducted a multicenter, randomized, phase 3 study to compare the efficacy and safety of cisplatin plus Lipusu (LP) versus cisplatin plus gemcitabine (GP) as first-line treatment in locally advanced or metastatic LSCC.
Methods: Patients enrolled were aged between 18 to 75 years, had locally advanced (clinical stage IIIB, ineligible for concurrent chemoradiation or surgery) or metastatic (Stage IV) LSCC, had no previous systemic chemotherapy and at least one measurable lesion as per the Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors (version 1.

Background And Objective: Invasive fungal disease (IFD) is associated with a high mortality for patients with hematological malignancies undergoing allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT). This study aimed not only to develop a proven/probable IFD risk-scoring model but to identify high-risk populations that would benefit from anti-fungal prophylaxis.
Methods: Data from the China Assessment of Antifungal Therapy in Hematological Diseases (CAESAR) study were retrieved, and all patients (n = 1053) undergoing allo-HSCT were randomly divided into the training set (n = 685) for model development and the validation set (n = 368) for model verification.

Platinum-based chemotherapy is one of treatment mainstay for patients with advanced lung squamous cell carcinoma (LUSC) but it is still a "one-size fits all" approach. Here, we aimed to investigate the predictive and monitoring role of circulating cell-free DNA (cfDNA) profiling for the outcome of first-line chemotherapy in patients with advanced LUSC. Peripheral blood samples of 155 patients from a phase IV trial and 42 cases from an external real-world cohort were prospectively collected.

Background: The introduction of mold-active antifungal drugs has led clinicians to reconsider the use of fluconazole for preventing invasive fungal disease (IFD) after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT). In this study of recipients of allo-HSCT, we evaluated the effects of different antifungal prophylaxes on the incidence of IFD at different times after transplantation.
Methods: Among the 1,401 patients registered in the prospective China Assessment of Antifungal Therapy in Haematological Disease (CAESAR) study database, there were 661 eligible patients who received primary antifungal prophylaxis.

Many studies have sought to construct a substitute to partially replace irreparably damaged meniscus. Only the meniscus allograft has been used in clinical practice as a useful substitute, and there are concerns about its longevity and inherent limitations, including availability of donor tissue and possibility of disease transmission. To overcome these limitations, we developed an acellular xenograft from whole porcine meniscus.

Background Left atrial (LA) dysfunction is associated with morbidity and mortality. To the knowledge of the authors, the relationship of LA strain to long-term prognosis in participants with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) is unknown. Purpose To evaluate LA strain as a long-term outcome predictor in STEMI in a prospective, multicenter cardiac MRI cohort.

Invasive fungal disease (IFD) is a major infectious complication in patients with hematological malignancies. In this study, we examined 4889 courses of chemotherapy in patients with hematological diseases to establish a training dataset (n = 3500) by simple random sampling to develop a weighted risk score for proven or probable IFD through multivariate regression, which included the following variables: male patients, induction chemotherapy for newly diagnosed or relapsed disease, neutropenia, neutropenia longer than 10 days, hypoalbuminemia, central-venous catheter, and history of IFD. The patients were classified into three groups, which had low (0-10, ~1.

Background: Proximal brachial plexus blocks can lead to an extended period of motor paralysis and delay the return of motor function. This could influence patient satisfaction, and extend hospitalizations. The aim of the study is to compare a selective distal nerve block of the arm to a proximal axillary block, both ultrasound-guided, in terms of their motor block intensity of the elbow.

The increasing rate of injuries to the meniscus indicates the urgent need to develop effective repair strategies. Irreparably damaged menisci can be replaced and meniscus allografts represent the treatment of choice; however, they have several limitations, including availability and compatibility. Another approach is the use of artificial implants but their chondroprotective activities are still not proved clinically.
