Background: Insulin resistance (IR) plays a pivotal role in the interplay between metabolic disorders and heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). Various non-insulin-based indices emerge as reliable surrogate markers for assessing IR, including the triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index, the TyG index with body mass index (TyG-BMI), atherogenic index of plasma (AIP), and the metabolic score for insulin resistance (METS-IR). However, the ability of different IR indices to predict outcome in HFpEF patients has not been extensively explored.

Prognostication of compensated advanced chronic liver disease (cACLD) is of paramount importance for the physician-and-patient communication and for rational clinical decisions. The paper published by Dallio reports on red cell distribution width (RDW)/platelet ratio (RPR) as a non-invasive biomarker in predicting decompensation of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD)-related cACLD. Differently from other biomarkers and algorithms, RPR is inexpensive and widely available, based on parameters which are included in a complete blood count.

Current evidence is inconsistent on whether vitamin D supplementation can prevent COVID-19 infection or improve its clinical outcomes. To better understand and look into the issue, we went through the background knowledge of COVID-19 and vitamin D, searched in Pubmed [by using key words in the title containing "randomized clinical trial", "COVID-19", and "vitamin D (25-hydroxyvitamin D, or cholecalciferol, or calcidiol, or calcifediol) supplementation"] for publications of studies on vitamin D/supplementation in COVID-19 patients, especially those about the randomized clinical trials (RCTs). After reviewing these papers, we did a short background review of vitamin D and the pathophysiology of COVID-19, summarized the key features of the 25 RCTs in text and tabulated in a table of some of the features, commented, compared and discussed the differences between RCTs (for example, change the serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D concentration from nmol/L to ng/mL, making the comparison easier).

Background: Although F-prostate-specific membrane antigen-1007 (F-PSMA-1007) positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) and multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (mpMRI) are good predictors of prostate cancer (PCa) prognosis, their combined ability to predict prostate-specific antigen (PSA) persistence has not been thoroughly evaluated. In this study, we assessed whether clinical, mpMRI, and F-PSMA-1007 PET/CT characteristics could predict PSA persistence in patients with PCa treated with radical prostatectomy (RP).
Methods: This retrospective study involved consecutive patients diagnosed with PCa who underwent both preoperative mpMRI and PSMA PET/CT scans between April 2019 and June 2022.

Increased level of angiotensin II (Ang II) plays a central role in the development of hypertensive vascular remodeling. In this study, we identified the deubiquitinating enzyme Josephin domain-containing protein 2 (JOSD2) as a protective factor and investigated its molecular mechanism in Ang II-induced vascular remodeling. First, we found that JOSD2 was upregulated in aortic smooth muscle cells, but not in endothelial cells of Ang II-challenged mouse vascular tissues.

Anoikis, a form of programmed cell death triggered by detachment from the extracellular matrix (ECM), maintains tissue homeostasis by removing mislocalized or detached cells. Cancer cells, however, have evolved multiple mechanisms to evade anoikis under conditions of ECM detachment, enabling survival and distant metastasis. Studies have identified differentially expressed proteins between suspended and adherent cancer cells, revealing that key metabolic and signaling pathways undergo significant alterations during the acquisition of anoikis resistance.
