Adhesive hydrogels, composed of hydrophilic polymers arranged in a three-dimensional network, have emerged as a pivotal innovation in ophthalmology due to their ability to securely adhere to ocular tissues while providing sustained therapeutic effects. The eye, with its delicate structure and specific needs, presents unique challenges for drug delivery and tissue regeneration. This review explores the transformative potential of adhesive hydrogels in addressing these challenges across a range of ocular conditions, including corneal injuries, cataracts, glaucoma, vitreoretinal disorders, and ocular trauma.

Microcystin-LR (MC-LR) a cyclic toxin produced by cyanobacterial species is known to exert detrimental effects on various organs, including lung. Several investigators demonstrated that MC-LR exerts pulmonary toxicity, but the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. This study aimed to investigate whether exposure to MC-LR-induced lung inflammation and examine the underlying mechanisms.

Biased µ-opioid receptor (MOR) agonists enhance pain relief by selectively activating G protein-coupled receptor signaling and minimizing β-arrestin-2 activation, resulting in fewer side effects. This multicenter Phase II/III trial evaluated the optimal dosage, efficacy, and safety of SHR8554, a biased MOR agonist, for postoperative pain management following orthopedic surgery. In Phase II, 121 patients were divided into four groups to receive varying patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) doses of SHR8554 or morphine.

This study aimed to investigate the efficacy of a pre-procedural white blood cell (WBC) count in the prediction of contrast-induced acute kidney injury (CI-AKI) risk in coronary artery disease patients receiving a percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). This observational study comprises a sample of 1,013 coronary artery disease patients (including ACS and stable angina) receiving PCI, gathered from September 2015 to July 2017. CI-AKI incidence in the study population was 4.

Intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) is a primary invasive malignant tumor. This study was conducted to explore the role of methyltransferase-like 3 (METTL3)-mediated m6A modification in ICC cells and provide novel targets for ICC treatment. Levels of METTL3/YTH N6-methyladenosine RNA binding protein 2 (YTHDF2)/Nedd4 family interacting protein 1 (NDFIP1) in cells were determined.

Background: Several studies reported the sterol ester (SE), a subclass of subtype of cholesterol ester (CE), is associated with the incidence of colorectal cancer (CRC). Nevertheless, the causal relationship of SE on CRC remains unknown.
Methods: A two-sample Mendelian randomization study was performed with the summary statistics of SE (27:1/14:0) which is from the largest available genome-wide association study meta-analysis(n = 377277) conducted by FinnGen consortium.

The transient receptor potential vanilloid 4 channel (TRPV4) is an important member of the TRP superfamily of cation channels. The channel can be activated by different physical and chemical stimuli, such as heat, osmotic, and mechanical stress. It regulates the release of nociceptive peptides (substance P and calcitonin gene-related peptide), and mediates neurogenic inflammation, which indicates the involvement of TRPV4 as a nociceptor.

Background: This study investigated the factors influencing the prognosis of children with steroid-resistant nephrotic syndrome (SRNS) in patients from the Guangxi region.
Methods: We retrospectively analyzed clinical and pathological data of 279 patients with SRNS from six tertiary hospitals in Guangxi. Clinical data were compared between initial (I-SRNS) and secondary (S-SRNS) steroid resistance subgroups and Cox regression analysis was used to determine risk factors for chronic kidney disease (CKD) and CKD stage 5 (CKD5) in patients with SRNS.

Objective: We established a prospective cohort study to investigate the differences in motor and non-motor symptoms between idiopathic Parkinson's disease (IPD) and Parkinson's disease in carriers of leucine-rich repeat kinase 2 (LRRK2) gene risk variants (LRRK2-PD).
Methods: The study included 1407 individuals with IPD and 649 individuals with LRRK2-PD (comprising 304 with LRRK2-G2385R, 220 with LRRK2-R1628P, and 105 with LRRK2-A419V). Differences in symptoms between LRRK2-PD and IPD were analyzed using LCMM modeling and Cox regression analysis.

Background: Debriefing is the essential element of simulation teaching. Peer-led structured debriefing simulations could be a suitable approach because of the peers' similarity in age and experience to the students. The purpose of this study was to compare the teaching effectiveness of peer-led debriefing versus instructor-led debriefing in high-fidelity simulation scenarios.

Introduction: Acupuncture may help treat diabetes mellitus (DM), diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN), and adjunct therapy for cancer, but the biological mechanisms and immune-related genes involved are unclear; this study aims to clarify these aspects.
Methods: Comprehensive gene expression analysis revealed differentially expressed genes (DEGs) among DM, DPN, and control samples. Key genes from WGCNA were intersected with DEGs and acupuncture targets.

Atherosclerosis is a progressive inflammatory disease within the large and medium arteries. SUCNR1(Succinate receptor 1) has been reported to regulate the inflammatory response in cardiovascular diseases, but how it works in atherosclerosis remains unclear. In this study, we observed that SUCNR1 is upregulated in endothelial cells within human atherosclerotic lesions.

Retinal neovascularization is a leading cause of blindness. While current anti-VEGF drugs effectively inhibit pathological angiogenesis, some patients develop resistance or reduced responsiveness to treatments over time, leading to diminished effectiveness. In this study, we identified high activation of the cGAS-STING signaling pathway, which exacerbated pathological neovascularization and vessel leakage.

Dry eye, the most common ocular surface disease, can cause ocular surface tissue damage and discomfort symptoms and seriously affect people's quality of life. The etiology of dry eye is diverse, and its pathogenesis is complex. The oxidative stress reaction is considered to be among the important factors in the pathogenesis of dry eye.
