Background: Central catheter bloodstream infections (CRBSI) is a major cause of healthcare-associated infections. However, few factors are generally accepted and some studies have conflicting finding about some factors, possibly caused by limitation associated with an individual study. This study was to identify risk factors for CRBSI in intensive care units.

Osteosarcoma (OS) is a malignant bone tumor characterized by poor prognosis due to its regional invasion and early metastasis. In this study, we aimed to find the role and the underlying mechanism of Cathepsin E (CTSE) in OS growth and metastasis. We found CTSE is upregulated in metastatic OS, rather than in the primary lesion, as confirmed by RT-qPCR and western blot analysis of clinical OS samples.

There is controversy whether masked hypertension (MHT) requires additional intervention. The aim of this study is to evaluate whether MHT accompanied with high-risk metabolic syndrome (MetS), as the subphenotype, will have a different prognosis from low-risk MetS. We applied latent class analysis to identify subphenotypes of MHT, using the clinical and biological information collected from High-risk Cardiovascular Factor Screening and Chronic Disease Management Programme.

Background: Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic inflammatory disease with increasing prevalence worldwide. Barrier defect in intestinal epithelial cells (IECs) is one of the main pathogeneses in UC. Pyroptosis is a programmed lytic cell death and is triggered by inflammatory caspases, while little is known about its role in UC.

Circular RNAs (circRNAs) have been reported to regulate the hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) chemoresistance and tumor progression by regulating gene expression. However, the underlying molecular mechanisms of HCC sorafenib resistance regulated by circRNAs remain unclear. Here, higher expression of circUBE2D2 was directly associated with low survival rate in HCC patients.

SRY (sex determining region Y)-box 2 (SOX2) plays a key role in the maintenance of stemness and resistance to drugs, whereas tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α is essential for maintaining cancer cell proliferation and metastasis. Accumulation of muscle segment homeobox 2 (MSX2) leads to downregulation of SOX2 expression. Here, we explored the MSX2-SOX2-TNF-α signaling axis and its function in the tumor phenotypes of osteosarcoma cells.

Context: The key gut microbial biomarkers for polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) and how dysbiosis causes insulin resistance and PCOS remain unclear.
Objective: To assess the characteristics of intestinal flora in PCOS and explore whether abnormal intestinal flora can affect insulin resistance and promote PCOS and whether chenodeoxycholic acid (CDCA) can activate intestinal farnesoid X receptor (FXR), improving glucose metabolism in PCOS.
Setting And Design: The intestinal flora of treatment-naïve PCOS patients and hormonally healthy controls was analyzed.

The cyclophilin A-CD147 interaction has been reported to be one of the most potential therapeutic targets for the treatment of acute pulmonary embolism. The signalling of extracellular signal-regulated kinase 1/2 (ERK1/2) was also reported in the pathogenesis of cardiac injury. Since SP-8356 is regarded as a novel Inhibitor of CD147-Cyclophilin, the study aimed to evaluate potential therapeutic effects of SP-8356 for pulmonary embolism-associated cardiac injury.

Purpose: Chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is a key determinant of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, the mechanism by which HBV contributes to the development of HCC remains to be further explored. HBV-encoded miR-3 (HBV-miR-3) is a newly discovered microRNA that can affect the replication of HBV, but its influence on host genes is unclear.

Hypoxic-ischemic brain damage (HIBD) is the major recognized perinatal cause of neurological morbidity in full-term new borns. Neural stem cells (NSCs) have been extensively studied because of their clinical applications in treating neuro degenerative diseases and brain injuries, including HIBD, while microRNAs (miRNAs) are deemed critical regulators of the proliferation and differentiation of NSCs. However, the role of let-7f in NSC differentiation remains unknown.

Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) is a kind of myeloproliferative disorder caused by a constitutively active BCR-ABL tyrosine kinase. Tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs), imatinib and its derivatives, have achieved great progress in the treatment of CML. However, many CML patients do not respond to TKIs alone.

Background: Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are significant modulatory molecules in the developing process of glioma. Our study will emphasize on exploring the function of circRNA Fanconi anemia group L protein (circFANCL) and the specific mechanism in glioma.
Methods: The quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) was implemented for detecting circFANCL, microRNA-337-3p (miR-337-3p) and high-mobility group box-1 (HMGB1).

The dysregulation of non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) often caused aberrant cell behaviors. In the present study, we focused on the role of long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) non-coding RNA activated by DNA damage (NORAD) in the development of neuroblastoma (NB). The enrichment of NORAD, miRNA-144-3p (miR-144-3p) and histone deacetylase 8 (HDAC8) was measured by quantitative real time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR).

Popliteal meniscal fiber bundle injury is relatively infrequent in clinic, which can be either isolated or associated with anterior cruciate ligament rupture, lateral meniscus injury and so on. Popliteal meniscal fiber bundle injury often leads to instability of lateral meniscus. Because of the lack of specific symptoms and signs of injury, the imaging changes are subtle, and it is easy to miss diagnosis and misdiagnosis in clinical.

Thioredoxin domain‑containing 5 (TXNDC5) is reportedly overexpressed in colorectal cancer (CRC) and is therefore considered an oncogene. However, the role of TXNDC5 in CRC tumorigenesis remains unclear. The present study aimed to explore the role of TXNDC5 in CRC tumorigenesis in vitro and in vivo under hypoxic and normoxic conditions.

Oxidative stress is one of the mechanisms of ageing-associated vascular dysfunction. Angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) and microRNA (miR)-18a have shown to be down-regulated in ageing cells. Our previous study has shown that ACE2-primed endothelial progenitor cells (ACE2-EPCs) have protective effects on endothelial cells (ECs), which might be due to their released exosomes (EXs).

Background: Gastric cancer (GC) is one of the most frequent malignant tumors and the molecular mechanism underlying its proliferation remains far from completely understood. Although accumulating evidence shows that abnormal expression of microRNA (miRNA) is involved in tumorigenesis, the role of specific miRNAs involved in GC remains elusive. MiR-199a/b-3p functions as a tumor suppressor in diverse cancers, but its expression, function, and mechanism in GC remain unclear.
