Elevated subcutaneous adipose tissue in obese men correlates strongly with a higher risk of aggressive prostate cancer and poor treatment outcomes, but the exact mechanism underlying the increased risk remains elusive. To address this question, we analyzed prostate cancer transcriptomic data from The Cancer Genome Atlas as well as single-cell RNA sequencing and tissue microarray data from prostate cancer cells. Subcutaneous adipose tissue-associated cysteine-rich protein 2 (CSRP2) was significantly downregulated in prostate cancer epithelial cells.

Objectives: To evaluate the prognostic value of body composition-related imaging parameters in assessing Crohn's disease (CD) severity and biological responses in Chinese patients.
Methods: We retrospectively analyzed electronic medical records and Computed tomography (CT) images from 117 CD patients, including 90 with sarcopenia and 27 without. We calculated subcutaneous fat area (SFA), visceral fat area, skeletal muscle area (SMA), mesenteric fat index (MFI), skeletal muscle index (SMI), and muscle attenuation (MA).
This study aimed to examine the influence of the Neuregulin-1 (NRG1)/ERBB4 signaling pathway on the function of human pulmonary artery endothelial cells (HPAECs) and investigate the underlying mechanisms. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay indicated that ERBB4 levels in the serum of patients with pulmonary embolism (PE) were significantly higher than those of healthy controls ( < 0.05).

Pneumonia is a common postoperative complication in patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH), which is associated with poor prognosis and increased mortality. The aim of this study was to develop a predictive model for postoperative pneumonia (POP) in patients with aSAH. A retrospective analysis was conducted on 308 patients with aSAH who underwent surgery at the Neurosurgery Department of the First Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University.

We aimed to evaluate the efficacy of the Intranasal Atomized Dexmedetomidine (IAD)+Intranasal Atomized Butorphanol (IAB) combination therapy on adult burn patients undergoing dressing changes. Herein, 46 adult burn patients were enrolled and randomly divided into two groups: Dexmedetomidine-Butorphanol (DB) and Saline-Butorphanol (SB), treated with atomized dexmedetomidine+butorphanol and saline +butorphanol, respectively. The primary outcomes were the Ramsay Sedation Scale (RSS) and the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) scores.

Background: Leucine rich pentatricopeptide repeat containing (LRPPRC) protein is a multifunctional protein involved in cell cycle progression and tumor development. However, its prognostic significance and association with immune infiltration in Liver hepatocellular carcinoma (LIHC) remain unclear.
Methods: We utilized transcriptomic and clinical data from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and Genotype Tissue Expression (GTEx) databases of LIHC patients to investigate the potential pro-cancer role of LRPPRC, including differential expression of LRPPRC in LIHC, prognostic value, clinicopathological features, immune cell infiltration relevance and function enrichment analysis.

Objective: To explore the value of preoperative prognostic nutritional index (PNI) and controlling nutritional status (CONUT) score in predicting response and prognosis of patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) receiving programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1) inhibitors.
Methods: A retrospective study was conducted in patients who received PD-1 inhibitors for advanced NSCLC. Patients were assigned by immunotherapy effects into response (partial and complete response, pCR) group (n=52) and non-response (non-pCR) group (n=132).
This review comprehensively assesses the epidemiology, interaction, and impact on patient outcomes of perioperative sleep disorders (SD) and perioperative neurocognitive disorders (PND) in the elderly. The incidence of SD and PND during the perioperative period in older adults is alarmingly high, with SD significantly contributing to the occurrence of postoperative delirium. However, the clinical evidence linking SD to PND remains insufficient, despite substantial preclinical data.

Background: F-box and leucine-rich repeat protein 18 (FBXL18) is an F-box protein that functions as an E3-ubiquitin ligase, and it plays pivotal roles in multiple disease processes. However, its role and underlying mechanism in ovarian cancer (OC) are still unknown. We investigated the impact and mechanism of FBXL18 in OC cell growth and tumorigenesis.

Understanding the molecular characteristics of triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) and developing more tailored treatment approaches is crucial. Circular RNAs (circRNAs), as potential therapeutic targets, remain largely unexplored in TNBC. This study utilized circRNA microarray analysis to determine the expression of circRNAs in TNBC, analyzing nine patient specimens.

In this study, we identified a novel high-risk subset of Ph-like ALL, characterized by the activation of oncogenic signaling and the inactivation of the tumor suppressor gene , resulting in a dismal outcome. The association between cytogenetic aberrations and clinical features was assessed on a cohort of 191 patients with Ph-like ALL.

NAA40 belongs to the N-terminal acetyltransferase (NATs) family, responsible for protein N-terminal modification, and it exerts crucial roles across various cancers. However, its impact on patient prognosis and immune infiltration in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remains elusive. To address this, our study delved into the comprehensive analysis of NAA40 in the context of cancer.

Background: Glycosyltransferases (GT) play a crucial role in glycosylation reactions, and aberrant expression of glycosyltransferase-related genes (GTs) leads to abnormal glycosylation, which is associated with tumor progression. However, the prognostic value of aberrant expression of GTs in ovarian cancer (OC) and the correlation between GTs and tumor microenvironment (TME) remain unknown.
Methods: TCGA and GSE53963 databases were used to obtain data on OC patient samples.

Recent studies revealed that CD39 was highly expressed in tumor-specific CD4 tumor infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs). However, the divergent function of CD39 T cells remains to be elucidated in colorectal cancer (CRC). In this study, T cells from CRC patients and tumor-bearing mice were isolated to evaluate the function of CD39 in T cells.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most common malignancy worldwide. It is well known that lipid metabolism reprogramming contributes to the tumor progression. However, the lipid metabolic alterations and potential remodeling mechanism underlying the chemoresistance of CRC remain largely unclear.

The prenatal period is a critical time for development and largely determines lifelong vascular health in offspring. Given the high incidence and severity of gestational hypoxia in mid-late pregnancy, it is urgent to further explore whether it affects the long-term synthesis of NO in offspring vascular endothelial cells.

In the effort to identify deubiquitinating enzymes required for the growth of colorectal cancer (CRC) cells, we found that OTUB2 knockdown markedly inhibited the viability of these cancer cells in culture and in xenografted mice. It was also found that the level of OTUB2 was elevated in primary CRCs, and its high expression was a poor prognostic indicator for the patients. Interestingly, immunoprecipitation and LC-MS/MS analyses suggested that β-Catenin was an OTUB2-interacting protein, and there was a positive correlation between OTUB2 and β-Catenin expression in both CRC tissues and cell lines.
