Introduction: Ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysms (RAAAs) are among the most dangerous emergencies in vascular surgery, with a high death rate and numerous risk factors influencing perioperative death. Therefore, identifying the critical risk factors for RAAAs is crucial to increasing their survival rate. Our aim was to identify those risk factors from a wide range of parameters.

The role and mechanism of TXNDC5 in disease progression.

Front Immunol

April 2024

Department of Urology, The First Affiliated Hospital of Shandong First Medical University & Shandong Province Qianfoshan Hospital, Shandong Medicine and Health Key Laboratory of Organ Transplantation and Nephrosis, Shandong Institute of Nephrology, Jinan, Shandong, China.

Thioredoxin domain containing protein-5 (TXNDC5), also known as endothelial protein-disulfide isomerase (Endo-PDI), is confined to the endoplasmic reticulum through the structural endoplasmic reticulum retention signal (KDEL), is a member of the PDI protein family and is highly expressed in the hypoxic state. TXNDC5 can regulate the rate of disulfide bond formation, isomerization and degradation of target proteins through its function as a protein disulfide isomerase (PDI), thereby altering protein conformation, activity and improving protein stability. Several studies have shown that there is a significant correlation between TXNDC5 gene polymorphisms and genetic susceptibility to inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid, fibrosis and tumors.

Engineering Nanosensitizer to Remodel the TME for Hypoimmunogenic "Cold"-"Hot" Tumor Transformations.

Nano Lett

February 2024

Department of Urology (Heilongjiang Key Laboratory of Scientific Research in Urology), Harbin Medical University Cancer Hospital, Harbin 150001, People's Republic of China.

α-PD-L1 therapy has shown encouraging results at harnessing the immune system to combat cancer. However, the treatment effect is relatively low due to the dense extracellular matrix (ECM) and tumor immunosuppressive microenvironment (TIME). Therefore, an ultrasound (US)-responsive nanosensitizer (URNS) is engineered to deliver losartan (LST) and polyethylenimine (PEI) to remolde the TME, driving "cold"-"hot" tumor transformation and enhancing the sensitivity of α-PD-L1 therapy.

High plasma nesfatin-1 level in Chinese adolescents with depression.

Sci Rep

September 2023

Department of Pediatrics, The First Affiliated Hospital of Shandong First Medical University & Shandong Province Qianfoshan Hospital, Shandong Engineering and Technology Research Center for Pediatric Drug Development, Jinan, China.

Depression is a common psychiatric disorder with high prevalence and mortality rates as well as high risk of serious harm in adolescents that have significant negative impact on families and society. The feeding inhibitor Nesfatin-1 contributes to the regulation of stress and emotion. The purpose of this project was to compare the differences in the levels of Nesfatin-1 between adolescents with depression and healthy adolescents, and verify the association between the levels of Nesfatin-1 and severity of depression in adolescents.

Article Synopsis
  • The guidelines for preventing and managing perioperative infection in China have been updated to address global antimicrobial resistance issues and improve infection control practices in hospitals.
  • A comprehensive evaluation was conducted using the GRADE system, involving feedback from experts via the Delphi method, leading to 37 recommendations based on 17 key questions.
  • The revised guidelines aim to enhance the rational use of antimicrobial prophylaxis, improving outcomes related to the risk-benefit balance for patients undergoing surgery.

Copy number variations (CNVs) in the Neurexin 1 (NRXN1) gene, which encodes a presynaptic protein involved in neurotransmitter release, are some of the most frequently observed single-gene variants associated with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). To address the functional contribution of NRXN1 CNVs to behavioral phenotypes relevant to ASD, we carried out systematic behavioral phenotyping of an allelic series of Nrxn1 mouse models: one carrying promoter and exon 1 deletion abolishing Nrxn1α transcription, one carrying exon 9 deletion disrupting Nrxn1α protein translation, and one carrying an intronic deletion with no observable effect on Nrxn1α expression. We found that homozygous loss of Nrxn1α resulted in enhanced aggression in males, reduced affiliative social behaviors in females, and significantly altered circadian activities in both sexes.

. Choroidal neovascularization (CNV) is a characteristic feature of wet age-related macular degeneration, which is one of the main causes of blindness in the elderly. Automatic classification of CNV in optical coherence tomography images plays an auxiliary role in the clinical treatment of CNV.

The differential diagnosis of a cerebral dissecting aneurysm (DA) and a hemorrhagic saccular aneurysm (SA) often depends on the intraoperative findings; thus, improved non-invasive imaging diagnosis before surgery is essential to distinguish between these two aneurysms, in order to provide the correct formulation of surgical procedure. We aimed to build a radiomic model based on high-resolution vessel wall magnetic resonance imaging (VW-MRI) and a machine-learning algorithm. In total, 851 radiomic features from 146 cases were analyzed retrospectively, and the ElasticNet algorithm was used to establish the radiomic model in a training set of 77 cases.

Background: Cryptotanshinone (CPT), an active component extracted from the root of Bunge, exhibits extensive favorable bioactive properties including anti-inflammatory, antioxidative, antibacterial, and antitumor effects. This study aims to investigate the effects of CPT on osteogenesis and explore related mechanisms both in vivo and in vitro.

Methods: In the in vivo experiment, ovariectomized (OVX) female rats were intragastrically administered with CPT at doses of 10 mg/kg and 20 mg/kg for 13 consecutive weeks.
