Article Synopsis
  • A study examined the effectiveness and safety of Aurantii Fructus Immaturus flavonoid (AFIF) tablets compared to domperidone for treating functional dyspepsia (FD).
  • After 4 weeks of treatment, both AFIF and domperidone showed similar rates of symptom relief, but AFIF had a significantly higher rate of symptom disappearance 4 weeks after stopping treatment.
  • The AFIF group also experienced fewer adverse events, suggesting a better safety profile compared to domperidone.

Deciphering the Prognostic Landscape of Esophageal Adenocarcinoma: A PANoptosis-Related Gene Signature.

J Cancer

January 2025

Department of Pathology, Nanjing Jinling Hospital, Affiliated Hospital of Medical School, Nanjing University, Nanjing, 210000, China.

Article Synopsis
  • Esophageal adenocarcinoma (EAC) has low survival rates despite treatment advancements, so understanding molecular mechanisms and identifying prognostic markers is essential for better patient outcomes.
  • A bioinformatics analysis identified 8 key PANoptosis-related genes (PRGs) to create a prognostic risk score model that outperformed traditional staging methods and was validated through multiple analyses, including gene expression profiling and immune infiltration assessment.
  • The study utilized techniques like WGCNA and RT-qPCR to identify crucial hub genes, whose effects on EAC cell behavior were tested in vitro, ultimately leading to a novel prognostic nomogram that integrates clinical features for improved predictive accuracy.

The protein corona effect refers to the phenomenon wherein nanomaterials in the bloodstream are coated by serum proteins, yet how protein coronated nanomaterials interact with blood vessels and its toxicity implications remain poorly understood. In this study, we investigated protein corona-related vessel toxicity by using an all-humanized assay integrating blood vessel organoids and patient-derived serum. Initially, we screened various nanomaterials to discern how parameters including size, morphology, hydrophobicity, surface charge, and chirality-dependent protein corona difference influence their uptake by vessel organoids.

Intermittent exotropia (IXT) is the most common type of strabismus, with surgical interventions standing as its main therapeutic modality. In recent years, with the rapid development of the strabismus and pediatric ophthalmology subspecialties, surgical correction for IXT has become a routine practice across numerous institutions in China. However, the surgical success rate is not high and tends to decline with longer follow-up periods.

LKB1 inactivation promotes epigenetic remodeling-induced lineage plasticity and antiandrogen resistance in prostate cancer.

Cell Res

January 2025

Key Laboratory of Multi-Cell Systems, Shanghai Key Laboratory of Molecular Andrology, Center for Excellence in Molecular Cell Science, Shanghai Institute of Biochemistry and Cell Biology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shanghai, China.

Article Synopsis
  • Epigenetic regulation significantly affects cancer cell behavior and their ability to adapt, influencing tumor diversity and treatment outcomes.
  • In castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC), the mechanisms behind tumor cells becoming independent of androgen receptors (AR) are not well understood, contributing to a lack of effective therapies.
  • Research using advanced single-cell RNA sequencing revealed that the loss of the LKB1 pathway is linked to AR independence, leading to changes in gene expression and DNA modification patterns, suggesting that targeting DNA hypomethylation could be a promising therapy for AR-independent CRPC.
