  • This study collected data from over 35,000 COVID-19 patients in China to analyze the rates of olfactory (smell) and gustatory (taste) dysfunctions following infection.!
  • Findings revealed a 67.75% incidence rate of these dysfunctions, with factors like gender, smoking, vaccination doses, and oral health affecting both the likelihood of experiencing and recovering from these symptoms.!
  • On average, smell and taste scores declined significantly after infection but showed some recovery over time, with 59.16% of patients reporting improvement, though some experienced prolonged symptoms lasting over 28 days.!

Changes in protein ubiquitination have been linked to cancer. Deubiquitinating enzymes (DUBs) counteract E3 ligase activities and have emerged as promising targets for cancer treatment. Ubiquitin-specific peptidase 5 (USP5) is a member of the DUBs family and has been implicated in promoting tumorigenesis in numerous cancers.

Polyacrylamide gel (PAG) is extensively used as a matrix for biomolecular analysis and fractionation. However, the traditional polymerization catalyst system ,,','-tetramethylethylenediamine (TEMED)/ammonium persulphate (APS) of PAG presents non-negligible toxicity. Herein, we utilized the green and efficient bio-enzyme horseradish peroxidase (HRP) to catalyze the gel polymerization of polyacrylamide.

Programed cell death protein-1 (PD-1) inhibitor, apatinib, and chemotherapy show synergistic antitumor effect in gastric cancer. This study aimed to evaluate this combination as a neoadjuvant therapy in locally advanced gastric cancer (LAGC). In this retrospective study, data from 179 LAGC patients who underwent neoadjuvant therapy with a PD-1 inhibitor plus apatinib and chemotherapy (PAC group, n=56), apatinib and chemotherapy (AC group, n=50), or chemotherapy alone (C group, n=73) were analyzed.

There is significant variability with respect to the prognosis of nonmetastatic clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) patients with venous tumor thrombus (VTT). By applying multiregion whole-exome sequencing on normal-tumor-thrombus-metastasis quadruples from 33 ccRCC patients, we showed that metastases were mainly seeded by VTT (81.8%) rather than primary tumors (PTs).

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a common neurodegenerative disease with limited treatment and no cure, hence, broadening PD drug spectrum is of great significance. At present, engineered microorganisms are attracting increasing attention. In this study, we constructed an engineered strain of -GLP-1, a (a probiotic) that consistently expresses glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1, a peptide-based hormone with neurological advantage) in anticipation of its use in PD treatment.

Early detection and timely treatment is the key to improving the prognosis of rectal cancer. Lymph node metastasis is one of the reasons for the poor prognosis of rectal cancer, especially early-stage rectal cancer. In this study, we developed a nomogram based on log odds of positive lymph nodes (LODDS) to predict cancer-specific survival (CSS) in patients with T1 rectal cancer.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to explore how the chemokine receptor ACKR2 affects cognitive impairment in young rats after a traumatic brain injury (TBI).
  • Researchers divided 75 young rats into different groups to test various interventions, utilizing multiple methods such as water maze tests and molecular analyses to assess learning and memory.
  • Findings showed that TBI significantly worsened memory and increased inflammatory factors, but enhancing ACKR2 expression combined with sensory integration treatments improved cognitive functions and reduced inflammation in the rats.

Background Chronic intermittent hypoxia (CIH) has been regarded as an important cause of atherosclerotic disease. In our study, we set out to investigate whether CIH regulated the high mobility group box 1/receptor for advanced glycation endproducts/NOD-like receptor family pyrin domain-containing 3 (HMGB1/RAGE/NLRP3) axis to affect the progression of atherosclerosis. Methods and Results Initially, peripheral blood samples were collected from patients with single obstructive sleep apnea, atherosclerosis complicated with obstructive sleep apnea, and healthy volunteers.

This study deciphered the mechanism of Shenling Baizhu Powder in treatment of mouse model of ulcerative colitis(UC) via NOD-like receptor thermoprotein domain 3(NLRP3) signaling pathway. After three days of adaptive feeding, 70 SPF-grade BALB/c mice were randomized into 7 groups: normal group, model group(dextran sodium sulfate, DSS), mesalazine group(DSS + 5-aminosalicylic acid, 5-ASA), NLRP3 inhibitor group(DSS + MCC950), and high-, medium-, and low-dose Shenling Baizhu Powder groups(DSS + high-, medium-, and low-dose Shenling Baizhu Powder), with 10 mice per group. The normal group had free access to double distilled water, and the remaining groups had free access to DSS-containing water to establish the acute UC model.
