Circ_BLNK is a Unique Molecular Marker in Non-small Cell Lung Cancer.

Biochem Genet

February 2024

Department of Respiratory, The People's Hospital of Beilun District, Beilun Branch of the First Affiliated Hospital of Medical College of Zhejiang University, No.1288 East Lushan Road, Xinqi, Beilun, Ningbo, 315800, Zhejiang, China.

Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients are characterized by distant metastasis and poor prognosis. Growing evidence has implied that circular RNAs (circRNAs) are involved in multiple tumor progression, including NSCLC. The objective of the present study was to functionally dissect the role and mechanism of circ_BLNK in NSCLC development and progression.

HLX01 (HanliKang) is a rituximab biosimilar that showed bioequivalence to reference rituximab in untreated CD20-positive diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) in the phase 3 HLX01-NHL03 study. Here, we report the 5-year follow-up results from the open-label extension part. Patients were randomised to either rituximab plus cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, vincristine, and prednisone (R-CHOP) or HLX01 plus CHOP (H-CHOP) every 21 days for up to six cycles.

Background: The coexistence of hypertension and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) may largely increase the risk for cardiovascular disease. However, there is no clear consensus on the association between hypertension and the risk of diabetes. Gut microbiota plays important roles in the development of hypertension and T2DM, but whether there is difference between hypertension patients with or without T2DM has not been explored yet.

We aimed to estimate the incidence, mortality, disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in 204 countries and territories. We examined the variations in these trends by country, gender, age group, and sociodemographic index (SDI). We calculated the estimated annual percentage changes (EAPCs) to assess temporal trends in the age-standardized incidence rate, age-standardized mortality rate, and age-standardized DALYs of COPD from 1990 to 2019.

Objective: To summary the regulatory effect of mechanical stimulation on macrophage polarization in wound healing, and explore the application prospect of mechanical stimulation in tissue engineering.

Methods: The related domestic and foreign literature in recent years was extensive reviewed, and the different phenotypes of macrophages and their roles in wound healing, the effect of mechanical stimulation on macrophage polarization and its application in tissue engineering were analyzed.

Results: Macrophages have functional diversity, with two phenotypes: pro-inflammatory (M1 type) and anti-inflammatory (M2 type), and the cells exhibit different activation phenotypes and play corresponding functions under different stimuli.

Department of Anesthesiology, Ningbo Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Zhejiang University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Ningbo, China.

Background: No comprehensive studies have been published on the global burden of alopecia areata since 2010.

Objective: We aimed to measure the global, regional, and national incidence of alopecia areata and disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) by age, sex, and socio-demographic index (SDI) value from 1990 to 2019.

Methods: Data were extracted from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2019.

Introduction And Objectives: Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are identified to show important regulatory functions in cancer biology. We attempted to analyze the role of circ_0000291 in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) progression and its related mechanism.

Methods: The circular characteristic of circ_0000291 was tested using exonuclease RNase R.

Glycolysis-targeted cancer therapy based on long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs), owing to its high specificity and less toxicity, is at the preclinical stages. Our study aimed to examine the roles of the core glycolysis-associated lncRNAs in bladder cancer (BC). Glycolysis scores of BC were computed by single-sample gene set enrichment analysis (ssGSEA).

Astragaloside-IV (AS-IV) (CHO) is a high-purity natural product extracted from , which has demonstrated biological activities. However, the effect of AS-IV on retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cells in diabetic retinopathy (DR) remains unclear. In this study, high glucose (HG) was shown to promote ARPE-19 RPE cell death, increase the contents of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and oxidized glutathione (GSSG), and enhance lipid peroxidation density of mitochondrial membrane.

Article Synopsis
  • Pituitary stalk interruption syndrome (PSIS) is a rare disorder characterized by growth hormone deficiencies, an absent or thin pituitary stalk, and underdevelopment of the adenohypophysis, mostly seen in infants and young people, with few adult cases reported.* -
  • A case study highlights a 54-year-old man experiencing dizziness, fatigue, and low appetite, whose blood tests revealed low levels of growth hormone, thyrotropin, and sex hormones, leading to a diagnosis of PSIS.* -
  • The patient's condition improved after treatment, indicating that PSIS can occur in adults and emphasizing the importance of early diagnosis through MRI for better management of the disease.*

The challenge to avoid or reduce cardiopulmonary bypass-related injuries in cardiovascular surgery remains a major issue. Remote ischemic preconditioning (RIPC) remains a promising strategy whose clinical applications appear to be significantly more realistic and extensive as compared with other conservative or surgical strategies. However, considering its underlying mechanism(s) are still unclear, novel ideas and methods must be explored to enhance its potential in clinical applications.

Purpose: Lung cancer is one of the most prevailing human cancers worldwide. Emerging evidence implies that long non-coding RNA nicotinamide nucleotide transhydrogenase-antisense RNA1 (NNT-AS1) is implicated in the tumorigenesis of lung cancer. Herein, we aimed to expose the impact of NNT-AS1 on the drug resistance of lung cancer.

Background And Study Aims: Ideal bowel preparation for colonoscopy requires complete removal of fluid and foam from the colon. Polyethylene glycol (PEG) is widely used for bowel preparation, with antifoaming agents such as simethicone commonly used in combination with PEG. Data on the effect of simethicone on the adenoma detection rate (ADR) were limited.

Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) are the most common mesenchymal neoplasm featured by activated mutations of KIT and PDGFRA. Although overall survival rates have greatly improved by the development of receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitors, most patients ultimately acquire resistance due to secondary mutations of KIT or PDGFRA. Inhibition of the histone acetyltransferases (HATs) CREB‑binding protein (CBP) and p300 results in antineoplastic effects in various cancers.

Intracellular proton extrusion in gastric cancer cells has been reported to promote cancer cell survival under acidic conditions via hydrogen/potassium adenosine triphosphatase (H/K-ATPase). Rabeprazole is a frequently used second-generation proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that irreversibly inactivates gastric H/K-ATPase. Therefore, we hypothesized that rabeprazole could reduce the viability of gastric cancer cells.
