Rational design of NIR-II molecule-engineered nanoplatform for preoperative downstaging and imaging-guided surgery of orthotopic hepatic tumor.

J Nanobiotechnology

December 2023

Center for Molecular lmaging Probe, Hunan Province Key Laboratory of Cancer Cellular and Molecular Pathology, Hengyang Medical School, Cancer Research lnstitute, University of South China, Hengyang, 421001, China.

Orthotopic advanced hepatic tumor resection without precise location and preoperative downstaging may cause clinical postoperative recurrence and metastasis. Early accurate monitoring and tumor size reduction based on the multifunctional diagnostic-therapeutic integration platform could improve real-time imaging-guided resection efficacy. Here, a Near-Infrared II/Photoacoustic Imaging/Magnetic Resonance Imaging (NIR-II/PAI/MRI) organic nanoplatform IRFEP-FA-DOTA-Gd (IFDG) is developed for integrated diagnosis and treatment of orthotopic hepatic tumor.

Wearable multisource quantitative gait analysis of Parkinson's diseases.

Comput Biol Med

September 2023

Key Laboratory of Education Ministry for Modern Design and Rotor-Bearing System, School of Mechanical Engineering, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Xi'an, 710049, China.

As the motor symptoms of Parkinson's disease (PD) are complex and influenced by many factors, it is challenging to quantify gait abnormalities adequately using a single type of signal. Therefore, a wearable multisource gait monitoring system is developed to perform a quantitative analysis of gait abnormalities for improving the effectiveness of the clinical diagnosis. To detect multisource gait data for an accurate evaluation of gait abnormalities, force sensitive sensors, piezoelectric sensors, and inertial measurement units are integrated into the devised device.

Background: The use of immature dendritic cells (imDCs) to induce donor-specific immunotolerance following stimulation is limited by their low rate of induction and their tendency to undergo maturation. We derived imDCs from bone marrow hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs-imDCs). We then tested the ability of naringenin (Nar) to impede the maturation of HSCs-imDCs for inducing transplantation immune tolerance.

Epidemiological studies have demonstrated that the use of antidepressants is associated with a decreased risk of colorectal cancer (CRC); however, the mechanisms behind this association are yet unknown. Adrenergic system contributes to the stress-related tumor progression, with norepinephrine (NE) mainly secreted from adrenergic nerve fibers. Norepinephrine serotonin reuptake inhibitors are successfully used antidepressants.

Precisely controlled polydopamine-mediated antibacterial system: mathematical model of polymerization, prediction of antibacterial capacity, and promotion of wound healing.

Nanotechnology

August 2022

Engineering Research Center of Molecular and Neuro Imaging of the Ministry of education, School of Life Science and Technology, Xidian University, Xifeng Rd. Xilong Sec. No. 266, Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, 710071, CHINA.

In this work, the polydopamine (PDA)-mediated antibacterial system is synthesized to carry out antimicrobial activities in vitro and in vivo. First, to precisely control the surface modification of nanodiamonds (NDs), a mathematical kinetics model of PDA deposition is established, and the conditions of synthesis reaction are discussed including influencing factors such as the concentrations of dopamine, reaction time, and the kinetic constant k1, which is a function of several variables associated with the reaction temperature, light irradiance (especially at ultraviolet wavelengths), pH value and concentration of dissolved O2 in the solution. A simulated visualization demonstrates that the deposition thickness of PDA is positively correlated with temperature and light irradiance, and PDA is easier to deposit in an alkaline solution and will be terminated if the dissolved O2 is insufficient.

Background: Percutaneous kyphoplasty (PKP) has been reported to provide a favorable analgesic effect for pain caused by osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures (OVCFs). However, a systematic review demonstrated that pain relief was only reported for approximately 86% of kyphoplasty treatments.

Objectives: To explore whether an additional facet joint block (FJB) can minimize pain and improve the clinical outcome of PKP in patients with acute OVCFs.

Introduction: Acute renal rejection usually fails to be diagnosed before the increase in the serum creatinine levels, and the resultant damage to the renal tissues occur in varying degrees. We hypothesized that the combined detection of human leucocyte antigen-G (HLA-G) 14-bp insertion/deletion genotypes and kidney injury molecule-1 (KIM-1) and osteopontin (OPN) levels in serum might facilitate the prediction of acute renal allograft rejections in kidney transplant recipients.

Methods: HLA-G 14-bp insertion/deletion genotypes and the serum KIM-1 and OPN levels of 77 kidney transplant recipients were determined and compared before operation and on days 1, 4, and 7 after the operation (32 in acute rejection [AR] group and 45 in stable allograft function [STA] group).

The loss and damage of podocytes is an early feature of diabetic nephropathy (DN). The miR-17∼92 cluster was dysregulated in diabetic and polycystic kidney disease patients, but its role in DN is unclear. Hence, an study on the high glucose- (HG-) treated mouse podocytes (MPC5) was designed to elucidate the effect of miR-17∼92 cluster downregulation on cell viability, apoptosis, inflammation, fibrosis, and podocyte function.

Accumulating evidence has supported the concept that long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) participate in the initiation and progression of human cervical cancer (CC). The long intergenic nonprotein-coding RNA 173 (LINC00173) is a recently identified cancer-associated factor. However, the expression and biological role of LINC00173 in CC are poorly understood.
