Objective: To determine whether the use of herbal medicines combined with conventional treatment is more effective than conventional medication alone in improving clinical symptoms in patients with diabetic distal symmetric polyneuropathy (DSPN).

Methods: This multicenter, placebo-controlled, double-blind, randomized controlled clinical trial recruited patients from 6 clinical centers in mainland China. A total of 188 patients were randomly assigned in a 1:1 ratio to the treatment group (Tangbi Formula plus methylcobalamin) and the control group (placebo plus methylcobalamin).

Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to determine if there is a causal link between dried fruit intake and kidney function, addressing limitations from previous observational studies that could lead to misleading results.
  • - Utilizing a two-sample Mendelian randomization method, the researchers analyzed data to evaluate the effects of dried fruit on kidney function markers like blood urea nitrogen, creatinine, uric acid, and cystatin C, finding a negative association between higher dried fruit intake and poorer kidney function.
  • - Although the initial findings suggested a positive effect of dried fruits on kidney function, factoring in alcohol consumption and smoking weakened the causal relationship for uric acid and cystatin C, while completely nullifying it for blood urea nitrogen and creatinine.

Background: Lung cancer (LC) combined with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a common combination of comorbidities. Anti-inflammation and modulation of oxidative/antioxidative imbalance may prevent COPD-induced LC, and are also crucial to the treatment of LC combined with COPD. Modern studies have shown that Tao Hong Si Wu Tang (THSW) has vasodilatory, anti-inflammatory, anti-fatigue, anti-shock, immunoregulatory, lipid-reducing, micronutrient-supplementing, and anti-allergy effects.

Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Shengjing Hospital of China Medical University, No. 36, Sanhao Street, Shenyang, Liaoning, 110004, People's Republic of China.

Background: To investigate the role of lncRNA LINC00665 in modulating ovarian cancer stemness and its influence on treatment resistance and cancer development.

Methods: We isolated ovarian cancer stem cells (OCSCs) from the COC1 cell line using a combination of chemotherapeutic agents and growth factors, and verified their stemness through western blotting and immunofluorescence for stem cell markers. Employing bioinformatics, we identified lncRNAs associated with ovarian cancer, with a focus on LINC00665 and its interaction with the CNBP mRNA.

October 2024

Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine Department 1/Pulmonary Disease Department 1, The First Affiliated Hospital of Liaoning University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, No. 33, Beiling Street, Huanggu District, Shenyang, 110000, China.

The objective is to assess the anti-inflammatory effect of Tao Hong Si Wu Tang combined with anti-PD-1 in a mouse model of COPD combined with lung cancer, elucidating its mechanism through modulation of PD-1/PD-L binding, regulation of Th1/Th2 and Th17/Treg balance, inhibition of IL-4 and IL-17, and promotion of IFN-γ and TGF-β levels in peripheral blood. One hundred male C57/BL6 mice were randomly allocated to five groups: A (blank control), B (model control), C (THSW), D (anti-PD-1), and E (THSW + anti-PD-1), with 20 mice in each group. The COPD model was induced using fumigation and LPS intra-airway drip, followed by the establishment of lung cancer by Lewis cell inoculation.

Objectives: To investigate the mechanism of comorbidity between non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and atherosclerosis (AS) based on metabolomics and network pharmacology.

Methods: Six ApoE mice were fed with a high-fat diet for 16 weeks as a comorbid model of NAFLD and AS (model group). Normal diet was given to 6 wildtype C57BL/6J mice (control group).

Atherosclerosis(AS) is caused by impaired lipid metabolism, which deposits lipids in the intima, causes vascular fibrosis and calcification, and then leads to stiffening of the vascular wall. Hyperlipidemia(HLP) is one of the key risk factors for AS. Based on the theory of "nutrients return to the heart and fat accumulates in the channels", it is believed that the excess fat returning to the heart in the vessels is the key pathogenic factor of AS.
