April 2024

Department of Urology and Institute of Urology, West China Hospital, Sichuan University, Chengdu, Sichuan, China.

Background: The pathogenesis of urolithiasis is multi-factorial and genetic factors have been shown to play a significant role in the development of urolithiasis. We tried to apply genome-wide Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis and figure out reliable gene susceptibility of urolithiasis from the largest samples to date in two independent genome-wide association studies (GWAS) database of European ancestry.

Methods: We extracted summary statistics of expression quantitative trait locus (eQTL) from eQTLGen consortium.

Article Synopsis
  • Puerarin, a compound derived from Pueraria, shows protective effects against lung injury caused by sepsis, specifically through mechanisms involving the Mst1/ERS signaling pathway.* -
  • The study found that puerarin reduced inflammation and apoptosis in lung tissues of mice, as well as improved the health of vascular endothelial cells exposed to harmful stimuli (LPS).* -
  • Overexpression of Mst1 negated the protective effects of puerarin, indicating that the Mst1/ERS pathway is crucial for understanding how puerarin mitigates acute lung injury.*

Obesity-related glomerulopathy (ORG) is an independent risk factor for chronic kidney disease and even progression to end-stage renal disease. Efforts have been undertaken to elucidate the mechanisms underlying the development of ORG and substantial advances have been made in the treatment of ORG, but relatively little is known about cell-specific changes in gene expression. To define the transcriptomic landscape at single-cell resolution, we analyzed kidney samples from four patients with ORG and three obese control subjects without kidney disease using single-cell RNA sequencing.

Congenital anatomical abnormalities of the pediatric bronchus is a rare and easily overlooked condition. In this study, we identified an 8-year-old patient with congenital anomalies of bronchial origin that caused his clinical manifestations of cough and shortness of breath. This diagnosis needs to be taken into possible consideration when similar clinical manifestations occur in a pediatric patient without a cause.

Department of Emergency, the First Affiliated Hospital of Hunan Normal University (Hunan Provincial People's Hospital), Changsha 410000, Hunan, China. Corresponding author: Han Xiaotong, Email:

Cardiac arrest (CA) is a serious cardiac event, which has a high incidence and low survival rate at home and abroad. In order to predict the risk of CA in advance, a large number of studies have been conducted by relevant researchers. This paper mainly summarizes the characteristics and research status of the existing analysis and prediction of CA from three aspects: the risk prediction factors of CA, the evaluation index of risk prediction of CA and the early warning scoring system of CA.

Background: Prostate cancer is the most common malignant tumor of male genitourinary system, and the gold standard for its diagnosis is prostate biopsy. Focusing on the methods and skills of prostate biopsy, we explored the learning curve and experience of a novel magnetic resonance imaging and transrectal ultrasound (mpMRI-TRUS) image fusion transperineal biopsy (TPB) technique using electromagnetic needle tracking under local anesthesia.

Methods: The clinical and pathological data of 92 patients who underwent targeted TPB from January 2023 to July 2023 in our center were prospectively collected.

Hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury (HIRI) elicits an immune-inflammatory response that may result in hepatocyte necrosis and apoptosis, ultimately culminating in postoperative hepatic dysfunction and hepatic failure. The precise mechanisms governing the pathophysiology of HIRI remain incompletely understood, necessitating further investigation into key molecules and pathways implicated in disease progression to guide drug discovery and potential therapeutic interventions. Gene microarray data was downloaded from the GEO expression profile database.

Curr Cancer Drug Targets

March 2024

NHC Key Laboratory of Carcinogenesis, Xiangya School of Medicine, Central South University, Changsha, Hunan, China.

Introduction: UMP-CMP kinase 2 (CMPK2) is involved in mitochondrial DNA synthesis which can be oxidized and released into the cytoplasm in innate immunity. It initiates the assembly of NLRP3 inflammasomes and mediates various pathological processes such as human immunodeficiency virus infection and systemic lupus erythematosus. However the role of CMPK2 in tumor progression and tumor immunity remains unclear.
