Background: (CR) is widely used in traditional Chinese medicine to prevent and treat a variety of diseases. However, its functions and mechanism of action in osteoarthritis (OA) has not been elucidated. Here, a comprehensive strategy combining network pharmacology, molecular docking, molecular dynamics simulation and in vitro experiments was used to address this issue.

Asthenozoospermia is a leading cause of male infertility, yet current pharmacotherapies yield suboptimal outcomes, underscoring the urgent need for novel treatment modalities. Herein, we induced asthenozoospermic mouse models using busulfan and investigated the therapeutic effects of Shenqi Qiangjing Granules (SQ) on testicular pathology, serum sex hormone and steroidogenic enzyme levels, and ferroptosis. Furthermore, utilizing GC-1 spg cell lines, we elucidated the role of the METTL3-mediated mA modification in GPX4 mRNA stability.

Objective: To investigate the effect of Shenfu (SF) injection on donor heart preservation.
Methods: Twelve pigs were randomly divided into SF group (n=6) and control group (n=6). After eight hours of perfusion, the differences in hemoglobin, the expression of Bcl-2 and BAX, and changes in the myocardial ultrastructure were compared to illustrate the effects of SF injection in heart preservation.

Because specimen removal is often required during video-assisted thoracic surgery, an easily produced, simple-to-use and cost-effective endobag is necessary to avoid wound metastasis. However, commercial endobags are expensive. Here I describe a homemade automatically opening, cost-effective, safe and easily produced endobag for video-assisted thoracic surgery that is suitable for use in low-income locations with limited health budgets.

Introduction: Pericardiectomy for patients with constrictive pericarditis and multivessel coronary artery disease is rare. Therefore, there is limited experience of pericardiectomy in these patients.
Presentation Of Case: We performed only pericardiectomy under the support of intra-aortic balloon pumping (IABP) for a patient with tuberculous constrictive pericarditis and multivessel coronary artery disease who refused to accept revascularization.

Purpose: Patients with ulcerative colitis (UC) frequently present with psychological disturbances as well as dysfunctions of autonomic nervous system (ANS). Salivary alpha-amylase (sAA) secretion is predominantly controlled by sympathetic nervous activity, while salivary fluid secretion is by parasympathetic nervous activity. Thus, it is speculated that alterations of salivary secretion may be addressed in UC populations.

Downward displacement of the aortic annulus is a very rare cardiac malformation, the etiology of which is not fully understood, while the surgical methods used for its correction are inconsistent. Herein is described a case of downward displacement of the aortic annulus, together with a review of the current relevant literature on the subject.

Patients with end-stage renal disease have a higher risk of morbidity and mortality than those without end-stage renal disease in cardiovascular surgery. Poor outcomes are especially found in patients who undergo valve surgery. We report successful mitral valve replacement (MVR) in a dialysis-dependent patient.

Advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) with tumor thrombi invading the portal vein and extending into the right atrium (RA) through the hepatic vein is regarded as a terminal-stage condition. Intracardiac tumor thrombus and treatment via liver resection has been reported in the current literature, but results from this therapeutic approach remain unsatisfactory. The present study describes a rare case of HCC with metastatic portal vein, middle hepatic vein, inferior vena cava (IVC) and RA tumor thrombi, and pulmonary metastases.

The resistance of cancer cells to chemotherapeutic agents is a major obstacle for successful chemotherapy, and the mechanism of chemoresistance remains unclear. The present study developed an adriamycin-resistant human osteosarcoma MG-63 sub-line (MG-63/ADR), and identified differentially expressed proteins that may be associated with adriamycin resistance. Two dimensional gel electrophoresis, matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry analysis and a protein identification assay were performed.

Background: The leaves of the Khat shrub contain the major alkaloid compounds (cathinone) and cathine. These compounds can induce apoptosis and exacerbate the acute cerebral infarction, but the underlying mechanism is poorly understood. The present study aimed to investigate the effects of Khat treatment on the expression and cellular localization of Smac/Diablo (second mitochondrial activator of caspase) in the cortex of ischemic rat brain.

Objective: To explore the effect of high positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP) for the treatment of neurological pulmonary edema (NPE) in patients undergoing mechanical ventilation, and to look for the best mechanical ventilation strategy to improve the prognosis.
Methods: A prospective study was conducted, and 120 patients with NEP admitted to Department of Critical Care Medicine of the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangxi Traditional Chinese Medical University from January 2010 to August 2013 were enrolled and divided into two groups according to random number table (n=60 in each group). The patients in two groups were given empiric treatment for the disease, and they underwent mechanical ventilation.

Plumbagin (PLB) has shown anti-cancer activity but the mechanism is unclear. This study has found that PLB has a potent pro-apoptotic and pro-autophagic effect on A549 and H23 cells. PLB arrests cells in G2/M phase, and increases the intracellular level of reactive oxygen species in both cell lines.

Background: The primary aims of minimally-invasive cardiac valve surgery are to lessen the impact of the incision, extracorporeal circulation, myocardial ischemia, and pulmonary ischemia, to obtain satisfactory therapeutic results, and to allow a quicker rehabilitation. In this study, the feasibility of minimally-invasive mitral valve replacements without ascending aorta and vena cava cross-clamping under beating heart was evaluated by surveying 11 patients.
Methods: Preoperative risk factors, intraoperative techniques, and postoperative complications were surveyed and evaluated for one year (April 1, 2009 to March 30, 2010) in 11 patients who had undergone beating-heart mitral valve replacement surgery at The People's Hospital of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
