Background: Pathological cardiac hypertrophy stands as a pivotal mechanism contributing to diverse cardiovascular diseases, ultimately leading to heart failure. Despite its clinical significance, the intricate molecular mechanisms instigating pathological cardiac hypertrophy remain inadequately understood. In this study, we aim to further reveal its complex pathogenesis by exploring the role of Fas apoptotic inhibitory molecule 2 (FAIM2) in modulating pathological cardiac hypertrophy.

Objective: To evaluate the predictive value of lung ultrasound score (LUS) combined with central venous oxygen saturation variations (ΔScvO) in the outcome of ventilator weaning in patients after thoracic surgery.
Methods: The clinical data of 60 patients who received tracheal intubation ventilator-assisted breathing after thoracic surgery were retrospectively analyzed, and they were divided into successful (n = 35) and failed (n = 25) groups according to the postoperative weaning outcomes. The factors influencing the failure of weaning in patients after thoracic surgery were compared and analyzed, and the values of LUS, ΔScvO as well as the combination of both were calculated to predict the failure of weaning in patients after thoracic surgery.

Combined hepatocellular carcinoma-cholangiocarcinoma (cHCC-CC) is a rare subtype in primary liver cancer, which is difficult to diagnose in clinics. In this report, we present a case of a 62-year-old male with abdominal pain and slightly elevated alpha-fetoprotein. The contrast-enhanced computed tomography scans showed a left liver mass, which showed adherence to the imaging characteristics of hepatocellular carcinoma.

Studies have demonstrated that kallikrein-associated peptidase 11 (KLK11) is dysregulated in various cancers. However, the potential roles of KLK11 in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) are still unknown. In our study, we found that the expression of KLK11 in advanced ESCC was significantly down regulated than that in the adjacent tissues, and patients with higher KLK11 expression had markedly increased overall survival rates compared with those with lower KLK11 expression.

In a previous study using a rat model of focal cerebral ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury, we found that 3'-Daidzein sulfonate sodium (DSS), a derivative of daidzein, exerts neuroprotective effects by alleviating brain edema and reducing levels of interleukin (IL)-6. The present study was designed to further examine the potential mechanisms of the neuroprotective properties of DSS in a rat model of cerebral I/R injury. We found that treatment with DSS ameliorated neurological deficit, infarct size, and cerebral water content in rats with cerebral I/R injury.
