Introduction: Mature cystic teratoma originating in the pancreas is very unusual, often observed as an incidental finding during routine examinations or recognized perioperatively as the patients present with very unspecific clinical symptoms. The confirmatory diagnosis of a pancreatic cystic teratoma is generally made by histopathology after surgical excision. So, the preoperative diagnosis is very challenging, especially differentiation from the other pancreatic pathologies.

BACKGROUND Previous studies have implicated reduced brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) expression and BDNF-TrkB receptor signaling as well as microglial activation and neuroinflammation in poststroke depression (PSD). However, the contributions of microglial BDNF-TrkB signaling to PSD pathogenesis are unclear. MATERIAL AND METHODS We compared depression-like behaviors as well as neuronal and microglial BDNF and TrkB expression levels in the amygdala, a critical mood-relating limbic structure, in rat models of stroke, depression, and PSD.

Background: Gardner syndrome is a subtype of familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP), characterized by a combination of adenomatous intestinal polyps and extracolonic lesions such as multiple osteomas, dental abnormalities, and soft tissue tumors. Although 12% of patients with intestinal polyposis of FAP may occur intra-abdominal desmoid tumors, pregnancy complicating with giant abdominal desmoid tumors is a relatively rare case.

Case Presentation: A 28-year-old pregnant woman was diagnosed with Gardner syndrome in whom an intra-abdominal tumor was found a year after undergoing a laparoscopic total colectomy due to family adenomatous polyposis.

Aim: To investigate the anti-proliferation and apoptosis-inducing effects of sodium aescinate (SA) on retinoblastoma Y79 cells and its mechanism.

Methods: Y79 cells were cultured at different drug concentrations for different periods of time (24, 48, and 72h). The inhibitory effect of SA on proliferation of Y79 cells was detected by the cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8) assay, and the morphology of Y79 cells in each group was observed under an inverted microscope.

This article presents the results of the survey and compares the indicators used in the survey and those in the annual statistical report released by the Eye Bank Association of America (EBAA). The number of corneal transplantations completed by the 64 hospitals from 2014 to 2018 was respectively 5377, 6394, 7595, 8270 and 8980, totally 36,616 (22,959 male and 13,657 female).

Previously, it has been demonstrated that aging is controlled by the hypothalamus, and that hypothalamus-driven programmatic aging is associated with nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB)-mediated gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) decrease. Abundant accumulation of β-amyloid (Aβ) has been observed in brains of cognitively normal elderly. However, it is unclear whether Aβ neurotoxicity is involved in aging-associated hypothalamic GnRH decline.

Background: There has been a paucity of cohort trials directly comparing multiple cannulated screws (MCS) and sliding hip screws (SHS) in femoral neck fractures at any level. Thus, a well-conducted clinical trial with an adequate sample size is urgently needed. We undertake a retrospective study to compare outcomes in patients who undertake MCS or SHS fixation for femoral neck fractures.

Background: Osteoporosis is becoming more prevalent in aging societies worldwide, and the economic burden attributable to osteoporotic fractures is substantial. The medications presently available to treat osteoporosis have side effects. Acupuncture is widely used for treating osteoporotic postmenopausal women because it is non-invasive and has fewer side effects, but the powerful clinical evidence for its efficacy remains insufficient.

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), which is caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), is mainly characterized by pulmonary inflammation. The preferred imaging modality is chest computed tomography (CT) which plays an important role in early diagnosis, quarantine, and treatment as well as in the evaluation of therapeutic efficacy. We report the imaging data from a confirmed case of COVID-19 admitted to our hospital.

Aim: To investigate the relationships between the changes of heat shock protein 27 antibody (anti-HSP27) in serum/cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), intraocular pressure (IOP), retinal ganglion cell (RGC) apoptosis in a rat glaucoma model and disclose the underlying pathogenesis of glaucoma.

Methods: A total of 115 Wistar rats were randomly divided into 4 groups. Group 1 was the ocular hypertension group by condensing 3 episcleral & limbal veins or episcleral area of right eye (HP group, =25) and sham operation group with conjunctiva incision without coagulation (=25).

miR-124 Intensified Oxaliplatin-Based Chemotherapy by Targeting CAPN2 in Colorectal Cancer.

Mol Ther Oncolytics

June 2020

Department of Oncology and Department of Biomedical and Clinical Sciences, Linköping University, 581 83 Linköping, Sweden.

Our previous study demonstrated that miR-124 was downregulated in colorectal cancer (CRC) compared with normal mucosa, and the downregulated expression of miR-124 was an independent prognostic factor in CRC patients. However, the function of miR-124 in CRC patients treated with chemotherapy is currently unclear. The aim of this study was to determine the miR-124 expression and its regulative role in oxaliplatin (L-OHP)-based chemotherapy of CRC patients.

Background: Mitochondrial transcription elongation factor (TEFM) is a key molecule for mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) replication-transcription switch. TEFM regulates both transcription elongation and RNA processing in mitochondria. However, the expression level and prognostic value of TEFM in low grade glioma (LGG) remain unclear.

To perform a systematic review of the data collected from case-control studies conducted earlier to investigate the correlation between E-selectin S128R polymorphism and ischemic stroke (IS) risk among the Chinese population. The PubMed, Web of Science, Chinese biomedical literature database (CBM), Chinese databases China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), WanfangData knowledge service platform (Wanfang Data), and information resource integration service platform (VIP) Databases were searched to retrieve case-control studies on the correlation between E-selectin gene S128R polymorphism and IS from the inception of the database till June 2019. The literature was screened, data were extracted, the risk of bias was reviewed, and the studies included were assessed independently by two reviewers.

It has been found that hypothalamus helps to control aging, and hypothalamus-driven programmatic aging is associated with nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB)-mediated decrease of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH). However, the molecular mechanism(s) underlying aging-associated hypothalamic GnRH decline are largely unknown. Forkhead box O (FOXO), a family of transcription factors, has been demonstrated to be associated with aging.

Purpose: To clarify unique non-contrast CT (NCCT) characteristics for early recognition of Schistosomal associated appendicitis (SAA) differentiating from Non-schistosomal associated appendicitis (NSA).

Material And Methods: Clinical and pathological data of 50 cases with SAA and 60 cases with NSA who underwent emergency appendectomy were retrospectively compared to pre-surgical NCCT features such as direct and indirect signs of acute appendicitis as well as appendicoliths, colon calcifications as diagnostic criteria. Statistical methods such as Chi-square (χ), t-tests, Principal component analysis (PCA), Binary Logistic regression (LR) and Factor Analysis (FA) were utilized to observe differences and isolate recognizable CT features of SAA.
