Objectives: To analyze the mechanism of Gynostemmae Pentaphylli Herba in the treatment of ischemic stroke based on network pharmacology and molecular docking.
Methods: We used various databases and software, including Cytoscape, Traditional Chinese Medicine Systems Pharmacology Database and Analysis Platform, Pubchem, Swiss Target Prediction, GenCards, String, and WebGestalt to identify the active components and targets of Gynostemmae Pentaphylli Herba, as well as the targets associated with ischemic stroke. The mechanism of Gynostemmae Pentaphylli Herba in treating ischemic stroke was analyzed from the perspective of protein-protein interaction (PPI) co-expression, Gene Ontology, and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) analysis, and AutoDock was used for molecular docking.

Objective: Alzheimer's disease (AD), a prevalent neurodegenerative affliction that predominantly affects the elderly population, imposes a substantial burden on not only patients but also their families and society at large. Mitochondrial dysfunction plays an important role in its pathogenesis. In this study, we conducted a bibliometric analysis of research on mitochondrial dysfunction and AD over the past 10 years, with the aim of summarizing current research hotspots and trends in this field.

In recent decades, the incidence and mortality of cervical cancer have declined in developed countries due to the implementation of screening and vaccination programs. However, cervical cancer remains one of the major culprits of cancer-related deaths in young women. Current studies have found that immune cell-related intercellular communication in the tumor microenvironment has a large impact on the construction of the immunosuppressive microenvironment.

Objective: Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is the primary reason for blindness among the middle-aged and elderly. It can progress to proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR), a condition that is accompanied by retinal neovascularization as the disease worsens. Understanding the pathogenesis of PDR can facilitate the development of treatments.

College freshmen are special populations facing great challenges in adapting to the brand new environment, and their lifestyle and emotional states are worthy of attention. Especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, their screen time and prevalence of negative emotions were significantly increased, but few studies have focused on such situation of college freshmen and illustrated relevant mechanisms. Thus, based on a sample of Chinese college freshmen during the COVID-19 pandemic, the current study aimed to investigate the association between their screen time and negative emotions (depression, anxiety and stress), and further explore the mediating effects of sleep quality.

Objective: Hypertension is one of the leading causes of human death and disability. MTHFR and MTRR regulate folate metabolism and are closely linked to hypertension, although the relationship is inconsistent among different ethnic groups. The present study aims to investigate the effects of MTHFR C677T (rs1801133), MTHFR A1298C (rs1801131), and MTRR A66G (rs1801394) polymorphisms on hypertension susceptibility in the Bai nationality of the Yunnan Province, China.

Research indicates that sleep problem is a behavioral risk factor of obesity. However, few research have applied a multi-dimensional approach to investigate the relationship between sleep health and adiposity. Therefore, the current study aimed to examine the associations of sleep characteristics (duration, quality) and chronotype with overweight/obesity as measured by body mass index.

Current evidence showed that heavy metal exposure including cadmium (Cd) exposure might contribute to memory function impairment in youth, while this association has not been extensively explored in senior groups. Complementary therapy like physical activity (PA) is proved to enhance memory; however, the combined effects of Cd exposure and PA are interesting issues worth investigating. Cross-sectional data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2011-2014 were analyzed.

Endometriosis is associated with ovarian cancers, mainly endometrioid and clear-cell carcinomas. Iron metabolism has been shown to play a role in endometriosis. Therefore, it is vital to explore the relationship between iron metabolism and ovarian cancer and to identify novel markers for diagnostics and therapeutics.

Background: Microsatellite instability (MSI) is a key biomarker for cancer immunotherapy and prognosis. Integration of MSI testing into a next-generation-sequencing (NGS) panel could save tissue sample, reduce turn-around time and cost, and provide MSI status and comprehensive genomic profiling in single test. We aimed to develop an MSI calling model to detect MSI status along with the NGS panel-based profiling test using tumor-only samples.

Individuals with a recent common cold coronavirus infection, which leads to pre-existing immunity against SARS-CoV-2, displayed a less severe course of COVID-19. However, the relationship between pre-existing immunity against SARS-CoV-2 and the inactivated-vaccine-induced immune response is still unknown. Here, 31 healthcare workers who received standard two doses of inactivated COVID-19 vaccines (Weeks 0 and 4, respectively) were enrolled, vaccine-induced neutralization and T cell responses were detected, and the correlation between the pre-existing SARS-CoV-2-specific immunity was analyzed.

This study was performed to retrospectively analyze and compare the related clinical indicators between extralevator abdominoperineal excision (ELAPE) and non-ELAPE under laparoscopic for low rectal cancer. From June 2018 to September 2021, a total of 80 patients with low rectal cancer who underwent either of the above two types of surgeries at our Hospital were enrolled. Patients were divided into the ELAPE group and non-ELAPE group based on the different surgical methods.

Aim: To explore whether C-reactive protein (CRP) mediates the risk of body mass index (BMI) in pancreatic cancer (PC) and calculate the mediate proportion of CRP in this possible mechanism.
Methods: Based on two-sample Mendelian randomization (TSMR), a two-step Mendelian randomization (TM) model was conducted to determine whether CRP was a mediator of the causal relationship between BMI and PC. The multivariable Mendelian randomization (MVMR) study was designed for mediating analysis and to calculate the mediating proportion mediated by CRP.

The present study aimed to identify the function and expression of trimethylated protein histone H3 lysine 36 (H3K36)me3 and the upstream specific enzyme histone methyltransferase SET domain containing 2 (SETD2), during the differentiation of hepatic oval cells (HOCs) into cholangiocytes in mice following partial liver resection and fed with 2‑acetamidofluorene. HOCs were isolated from Kunming male mice fed with 2‑acetamidofluorene for 10 days. Their liver tissues were then isolated following partial liver resection and another week of 2‑acetamidofluorene treatment.

Aim: This study aimed to evaluate the association between thyroid neoplasms (TN) and the risk of developing breast neoplasms (BN) by assessing data on single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) obtained from the Deutsches Krebsforschungszentrum (DKFZ) and Breast Cancer Association (BCAC).
Methods: Data on SNPs associated with TN and BN were obtained from DKFZ and BCAC, respectively. Secondary data analysis of all pooled data from genome-wide association studies (GWAS) was performed to identify the genetic loci closely associated with TN or BN as instrumental variables (IVs).

Photoaging is mainly caused by the exposure of the skin to ultraviolet (UV) radiation. Among them, damage to human dermal fibroblast (HDF) cells caused by ultraviolet A (UVA) is the main cause of skin aging. Researchers have dedicated to identifying natural compounds from plants to fight against UV radiation-induced photoaging.
