In women, breast cancer (BC) accounts for 7%-10% of all cancer cases and is one of the most common cancers. To identify a new method for treating BC, the role of CD93 and its underlying mechanism were explored. MDA-MB-231 cells were used in this study and transfected with si-CD93, si-MMRN2, oe-CD93, si-integrin β1, or oe-SP2 lentivirus.

The rate of vincristine (VCR) resistance in the treatment of retinoblastoma (RB) is relatively high, and the exact role and mechanism of autophagy and fatty acid (FA) metabolism in RB are still unknown. The aim of this study was to elucidate the molecular mechanism by which acyl-CoA thioesterase 7 (ACOT7) regulates FA metabolism and autophagy, which may lead to potential therapeutic strategies for RB. In the present study, the relationship between FA metabolism and cellular drug sensitivity was evaluated through ACOT7 overexpression or inhibition tests in RB-resistant cells.

Background/objectives: To determine the relationship between corneal stress-strain index (SSI) and retinal nerve fibre layer (RNFL) thickness.
Subjects/methods: 1645 healthy university students from a university-based study contributed to the analysis. The RNFL thickness was measured by high-definition optical coherence tomography (HD-OCT), axial length (AL) was measured by IOL Master, and corneal biomechanics including SSI, biomechanical corrected intraocular pressure (bIOP), and central corneal thickness (CCT) were measured by Corvis ST.

Hypokalemic Periodic Paralysis Type 2 (HOKPP2) is a rare autosomal dominant disorder characterized by recurrent episodes of muscle weakness, paralysis, and hypokalemia. In this case report, we present the clinical details of a 49-year-old female diagnosed with HOKPP2. Genetic testing revealed a heterozygous mutation in the Sodium Voltage-Gated Channel Alpha Subunit 4 ( gene, confirming the diagnosis of HOKPP2.

The brain-gut axis plays a vital role in connecting the cognitive and emotional centers of the brain with the intricate workings of the intestines. An imbalance in the microbiota-mediated brain-gut axis extends far beyond conditions like Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and obesity, playing a critical role in the development and progression of various neurological disorders, including epilepsy, depression, Alzheimer's disease (AD), and Parkinson's disease (PD). Epilepsy, a brain disorder characterized by unprovoked seizures, affects approximately 50 million people worldwide.

Stem cell factor (SCF) is implicated in cell growth, proliferation, differentiation, migration, and apoptosis. SCF in follicular fluid (FF) and granulosa cells (GCs) plays a key role in oocyte maturation and clinical pregnancy; however, the exact mechanism is unclear. We aimed to investigate SCF potential in predicting oocyte maturity and clinical pregnancy.

Objective: To evaluate the diagnostic and prognostic value of the Serum Procalcitonin (PCT) to Albumin (ALB) ratio in sepsis-associated ARDS patients.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective study including 349 septic patients (159 and 190 with and without ARDS, respectively). The serum PCT/ALB ratio was measured at admission, and participants' 28-day mortality and Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) scores were compared.

Little is known about gender differences in the symptom burden of people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) on antiretroviral therapy in China. This study was conducted based on a biopsychosocial-medical model to describe gender differences in symptom burden among 1035 PLWHA in Yunnan Province, China. After propensity score matching, 798 PLWHA were included in this analysis.

Background: The key complication of myocardial infarction therapy is myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury (MI/RI), and there is no effective treatment. The present study elucidates the mechanism of action of lncRNA KCNQ1OT1 in alleviating MI/RI and provides new perspectives and therapeutic targets for cardiac injury-related diseases.
Methods: An ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury model of human adult cardiac myocytes (HACMs) was constructed, and the expression of KCNQ1OT1 and miR-377-3p was determined by RT‒qPCR.

Retinoblastoma (RB) is a pernicious tumor originating from photoreceptor precursor cells that often endangers the lives of children. The purpose of our study was to further investigate the influence of cathepsin B (CTSB) nuclear translocation on RB cell death. Y79 cells were injected into the vitreous cavity of nude mice at a dose of 4 µL/mouse to establish an animal model of RB.

Progress in immunotherapy for prostate cancer (PCa) lags that for other cancers, mainly because of limited immune infiltration in PCa. This study aimed to assess the feasibility of NSD2 as an immunotherapeutic target in PCa. Immunohistochemistry was performed to evaluate the expression pattern of NSD2 in 34 cases of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), 36 cases of prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia (PIN), and 57 cases of PCa, including 19 cases of metastatic castration-resistant prostatic cancer (mCRPC).

Purpose: Cerebral ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) is a neurovascular disorder that leads to brain injury. In mice, Fasudil improves nerve injury induced by I/R. However, it is unclear if this is mediated by increased peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-α (PPARα) expression and reduced oxidative damage.

Background: Ischemic stroke (IS) is affected by a wide range of factors and has certain treatment limitations. Studies have reported that compound musk injection (CMI) is effective in the treatment of IS, however, its mechanism of action is still unclear.
Methods: The main active ingredients in CMI were retrieved from HERB, TCMSP and BATMAN databases, and the relevant targets were predicted by Swiss Target Prediction platform.

Ischemic strokes (ISs) are commonly treated by intravenous thrombolysis using a recombinant tissue plasminogen activator; however, successful treatment can only occur within 3 hours after the stroke. Therefore, it is crucial to determine the causes and underlying molecular mechanisms, identify molecular biomarkers for early diagnosis, and develop precise preventive treatments for strokes. We aimed to clarify the differences in gene expression, molecular mechanisms, and drug prediction approaches between IS and myocardial infarction (MI) using comprehensive bioinformatics analysis.
