This study explored the expression of sphingosine kinase 2 (SPHK2) and microRNA miR-19a-3p (miR-19a-3p) in patients with Hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (HSCC) together with pathways affecting HSCC invasion and metastasis. Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) and Western blotting (WB) were performed to assess the differential expression of SPHK2 and miR-19a-3p in patients with HSCC lymph node metastasis (LNM). Immunohistochemical (IHC) results were analyzed together with clinical information to evaluate their clinical significance.

Objective: To investigate the effect of scutellarin on the proliferation of glioma cells through microRNA (miR)-15a.
Methods: Human glioma cell line T98G was cultured in vitro and divided into control group (without treatment), scutellarin group (with 10, 20, 40, 80, 160 μg/mL scutellarin, respectively), miR-15a negative control group (transfected with negative control-miR-15a + 80 μg/mL scutellarin) and miR-15a inhibitor group (transfected with miR-15a siRNA + 80 μg/mL scutellarin). The proliferation of T98G cells was detected by cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8), and the expression of miR-15a in T98G cells was detected by real-time fluorescence quantitative PCR (qRT-PCR).

To observe the effects and safety of Sacubitril/Valsartan (SV) on heart function and blood pressure in maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) patients with chronic heart failure (CHF). The clinical data and biochemical parameters of MHD patients were retrospectively analyzed. These MHD patients, who were collected from January 2020 to June 2021 in the Blood Purification Center of the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University, received SV treatment to control heart failure (HF).

Enzalutamide is an effective drug for the treatment of castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC), but acquired enzalutamide resistance is usually unavoidable within the short term in many patients. Lycopene, a safe and effective phytochemical, has been documented to have anticancer activity in a variety of tumors, especially for prostate cancer (PCa). The aim of this study was to provide data support for the combination of lycopene and enzalutamide in the treatment of CRPC.

Objectives: MicroRNA-199b-3p (miR-199b-3p) plays a crucial role in the malignant development of various cancers, but little known in prostate cancer (PCa). The aim of our study was to demonstrate the function of miR-199b-3p in PCa.
Methods: Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) was used to detect miR-199b-3p expression in PCa and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) tissue samples.

Background: Besides being highly infectious, Hepatitis B virus (HBV) is a major cause of liver disease worldwide. In hospital settings, it is easy for the environment and quilts to be contaminated by HBV patient blood and body fluids. Therefore, HBV can be transmitted to other patients via contaminated environmental surfaces or quilts, resulting in an HBV nosocomial infection.

Background: We examined the effects of the rs1800469 and rs1800470 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of the transforming growth factor-β1 (TGFβ1) gene and the rs189037 and rs373759 SNPs of the ataxia telangiectasia mutated (ATM) gene on the risk of radiation-induced pneumonitis (RP) in patients who underwent radiotherapy for various thoracic malignancies.
Methods: We determined the genotype and allele distributions of rs1800469 (C-509T), rs1800470 (C869T), rs189037 (A-111G), and rs373759 (126713 G>A) in 141 Han Chinese patients who underwent definitive thoracic radiotherapy (50 to 77 Gy, 5 days/wk) for lung cancer (small cell or non-small cell tumors, n = 97), esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC, n = 27), or mediastinal cancer (n = 17). Clinical variables were evaluated using multivariate logistic regression models to calculate the relative risk of RP associated with the clinical variables, and a Pearson correlation analysis was used to evaluate the relationship between the SNP genotypes and alleles and the incidence of RP for the various risk factors.

Bone marrow stroma plays a critical role in the bone metastasis of breast cancer. Bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BMSC) are critical to facilitate cancer progression. Human bone morphogenetic protein 9 (BMP9) is the most potent osteogenic factor and one of bone-stored growth factors involved in both promotion and inhibition of different cancers.

Hypoxia-inducible factor 1 (HIF-1) has been associated with distant tumor metastasis; however, its function in multiple metastatic processes has not yet been fully elucidated. In the present study, we demonstrated that cancer cells transiently upregulated HIF-1 activity during their metastatic colonization after extravasation in the lungs in hypoxia-independent and reactive oxygen species (ROS)-dependent manners. Transient activation induced the expression of lactate dehydrogenase A and phosphorylation of the E1α subunit of pyruvate dehydrogenase, which indicated the reprogramming of glucose metabolic pathways from mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation to anaerobic glycolysis and lactic acid fermentation.
