Objectives: To observe the features of conventional ultrasound (US) and contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) images of renal wounds after minimally-invasive partial nephrectomy (MIPN) and evaluate their severity using these two modalities.

Methods: This prospective, observational study included 120 patients who underwent MIPN from April to December 2019 in our hospital. The postoperative US images were evaluated and classified, and contrast extravasation characteristics of CEUS were recorded.

The efficacy of sodium bicarbonated Ringer's solution versus lactated Ringer's solution in elderly patients undergoing gastrointestinal surgery: a prospective randomized controlled trial.

Objective: To investigate the effect of sodium bicarbonated Ringer's solution (BRS) on lactate metabolism, acid-base balance, and clinical outcomes in elderly patients undergoing gastrointestinal surgery.

Methods: A total of 60 elderly patients undergoing gastrointestinal surgery were enrolled in this prospective, randomized controlled study. The participants were randomly assigned to the BRS group (n = 30) or sodium lactated Ringer's solution (LRS) group (n = 30) where they received goal-directed fluid therapy with BRS or LRS, respectively.

Effectiveness and safety of mono-anlotinib mono therapy or in combination with chemotherapy in platinum-resistant recurrent ovarian cancer: a single-center retrospective study.

Objective: To evaluate the clinical efficacy of mono-anlotinib therapy by itself or in combination with chemotherapy in platinum-resistant recurrent ovarian cancer (PROC).

Methods: The clinical data of 35 patients with platinum-resistant recurrent ovarian cancer admitted to the First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University from March 2019 to July 2020 were retrospectively analyzed. All the patients received anlotinib mono- or combined chemotherapy.

Comparison of efficacy and safety between transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) combined with lenvatinib versus TACE combined with sorafenib in the treatment of intermediate and advanced hepatocellular carcinoma.

Objective: To compare the clinical effect and safety of transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) combined with lenvatinib versus TACE combined with sorafenib in the treatment of intermediate-advanced hepatocellular carcinoma.

Methods: In this retrospective study, 84 patients with intermediate-advanced hepatocellular carcinoma admitted to the First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University and the First Affiliated Hospital of USTC from June 2019 to June 2021 were enrolled. The control group was given TACE combined with sorafenib, and the experimental group was given TACE combined with lenvatinib.

Development and validation of an online nomogram for predicting the outcome of open tracheotomy decannulation: a two-center retrospective analysis.

Background: Tracheotomy decannulation is critical for patients in the intensive care unit (ICU) to recover. In this study, we developed and validated an intuitive nomogram to predict the success rate of tracheotomy decannulation.

Methods: We collected the data of 627 ICU patients before open tracheotomy decannulation from two medical institutions, including 466 patients (135 success and 331 failure) from the First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University as a training cohort, and 161 patients (57 success and 104 failure) from the Second Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University as an external validation cohort.

Identification of psychological stressors in cancer patients based on a computer decision support nursing system.

Objective: We aim to improve the decision-making process of nursing evaluation, and the purpose of this paper was to introduce nursing outcome classifications based on standardized nursing language, as well as build a comprehensive nursing evaluation decision-making system model based on an artificial neural network and fuzzy comprehensive evaluations.

Methods: Based on the principle and method of the decision support system (DSS), this paper proposed a framework of DSS and developed an intelligent nursing decision support system which integrates expert systems, data, models and knowledge.

Results: Taking cancer patients as examples, based on the analysis and comparison of cancer stressors and their frequency of occurrence, this paper found that the 5 major factors for cancer patients' stress events were lack of privacy, attitude of the medical workers, unfamiliar medical workers and uncomfortable temperature in wards.

Objective: To investigate the effects of silver foam combined with Dermlin wound healing dressing on concentrations of inflammatory factors of wound surface and quality of life of the patients with diabetic lower limb ulcers.

Methods: A total of 60 patients with diabetic lower limb ulcers admitted to the First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University during January 2020 and December 2020 were retrospectively enrolled in this study. According to the different treatments, they were divided into a control group (30 cases treated with Dermlin wound healing dressing only), and a research group (30 cases treated with silver foam combined with Dermlin dressing).

Prenatal diagnosis of midgut volvulus using two-dimensional and three-dimensional ultrasound.

Objective: Fetal midgut volvulus is rare and fatal, which can be easily missed on prenatal two-dimensional (2D) ultrasonography. The purpose of this study was to review our experience in prenatal diagnosis of midgut volvulus using 2D and three-dimensional (3D) ultrasound, so as to assess the diagnostic value of the two ultrasonic methods in fetal midgut volvulus.

Methods: The retrospective study was conducted on 355 fetuses with intestinal dilatation diagnosed with 2D ultrasonography in the First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University from January 2017 to December 2019.

Background: Chronic HBV infection is a serious worldwide health problem that mainly causes liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Comparison between I-gel and endotracheal intubation in terms of the incidence of postoperative sore throat following thyroid surgery: a randomized observational trial.

Background: Postoperative sore throat (POST) is a common complication following thyroid surgery with an endotracheal tube (ET). The I-gel is a supraglottic airway device that has greater advantages in airway management compared with ET. This prospective trial aimed to explore the potential benefits of I-gel compared with ET on POST.

Background: Astaxanthin (ATX) is a carotenoid pigment with effective antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antitumor and immunomodulatory actions. Molecular mechanisms and prognostic markers in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma: a bioinformatic analysis.

The purpose of the present study was to enhance understanding of the molecular mechanisms underpinning head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). Microarray datasets were obtained from the gene expression omnibus database. By a bioinformatics method, 109 differentially expressed genes were identified between the two mRNA datasets, and these genes were classified primarily into biological process, molecular function, or cellular component.

BRD4, a member of the bromodomain and extraterminal domain (BET) family and an important epigenetic reader, has emerged as an attractive oncology target. Cholangiocarcinoma is a lethal neoplasm without approved targeted therapies. BET bromodomain inhibitors have shown promising effects in certain cancers including cholangiocarcinoma.

Association of HSP90B1 genetic polymorphisms with efficacy of glucocorticoids and improvement of HRQoL in systemic lupus erythematosus patients from Anhui Province.

The aim of this study was to investigate the associations between HSP90B1 gene polymorphisms and the efficacy of glucocorticoids (GCs) and the improvement of health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in Anhui patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). A total of 305 patients with SLE were recruited to the study. These patients were treated with GCs for 12 weeks and classified into two groups (sensitivity and insensitivity) according to the response to GCs measured by the scores on SLE disease activity index (SLEDAI).

Serum expression and significance of MicroRNA-30d-5p in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma.

This study was aimed to assess serum microRNA-30d-5p (miR-30d-5p) expression in patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma before and after operation, exploring its associations with clinical pathological parameters. A total of 30 esophageal cancer patients who underwent radical resection and were pathologically confirmed with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma in the First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University, from April to May in 2013, were enrolled, alongside 19 healthy controls. The expression levels of miRNA in serum from patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma before and after operation were assessed by microarrays and real-time PCR (RT-PCR).

FTL: a novel predictor in gastric cancer.

Background: Ferritin light chain (FTL) is a functionally distinct composition of ferritin, which is over-expressed and play an important role in multiple human malignancies.

Methods: Matched normal and cancerous tissues in 60 gastric cancer (GC) patients were detected for FTL expression using immunohistochemistry staining. The relationship betweent FTL expression and clinicopathological features was analyzed by chi-square test, and the Kaplan-Meier curves and Cox regression analyses were used to calculate the overall survival (OS) characteristics and recurrence-free survival (RFS).

It was found that the decreased expression of PRRX1 in breast cancer and liver cancer could enable tumor cells to obtain tumor stem cell characteristics in vitro studies. However, the role of PRRX1 in lung cancer was still unknown.
