Efficient drug delivery to solid tumors remains a challenge. HER2-positive (HER2) tumors are an aggressive cancer subtype with a resistance to therapy, high risk of relapse, and poor prognosis. Although nanomedicine technology shows obvious advantages in tumor treatment, its potential clinical translation is still impeded by the unsatisfactory delivery and therapeutic efficacy.

Article Synopsis
  • - Prostate cancer is a leading cause of cancer-related deaths among men, and disturbances in the circadian rhythm, particularly involving the core clock gene NPAS2, may influence tumor development and progression.
  • - The study used various methods to assess NPAS2 expression in prostate cancer tissues and cell lines, examining its effects on cell growth and glucose metabolism through in vitro and in vivo experiments.
  • - Results indicated that higher NPAS2 levels in cancerous tissues correlated with increased cell proliferation and altered glucose metabolism, suggesting NPAS2 promotes tumor growth by enhancing glycolytic processes in prostate cancer.

Background: Family function plays a pivotal role in self-management among patients with early chronic kidney disease (CKD), which has been especially important during the COVID-19 pandemic. Previous studies have investigated the relationships between family function and self-management using total scores through self-report questionnaires while ignoring the different components in both family function and self-management. The specific objective of this study was to explore the network structure of family function and self-management at the component level.

Background: Currently, how to successfully control refractory and metastatic diseases remains a fundamental goal for clinicians to improve therapeutic effects for patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Several studies have discovered that TRIM58, a member of tripartite motif protein family, shows antitumor effect in multiple types of cancer. In this study, we aimed to further clarify the molecular regulatory network of TRIM58 and corresponding targets for NSCLC patients.

To investigate the effects and mechanism of exosomes from hepatocyte growth factor (HGF)-modified human adipose mesenchymal stem cells (ADSCs) on full-thickness skin defect wounds in diabetic mice. The experimental study method was adopted. Discarded adipose tissue of 3 healthy females (10-25 years old) who underwent abdominal surgery in the Department of Plastic Surgery of First Affiliated Hospital of Air Force Medical University from February to May 2021 was collected, and primary ADSCs were obtained by collagenase digestion method and cultured for 7 days.

Irisin-pretreated BMMSCs Secrete Exosomes to Alleviate Cardiomyocytes Pyroptosis and Oxidative Stress to Hypoxia/reoxygenation Injury.

Curr Stem Cell Res Ther

June 2023

Department of Cardiology, Postgraduate Training Base in PLA Rocket Force Characteristic Medical Center, Jinzhou Medical University, Jinzhou-121001, Liaoning, China.

Background: The cardiomyocytes pyroptosis and bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells have been well considered as novel therapies to attenuate myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury, however, the relationship has not yet been determined.

Objective: We aim to evaluate whether pre-treatment bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells protect against myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury by repressing cardiomyocytes pyroptosis, as well as to further elucidate the potential mechanisms.

Methods: Cardiomyocytes were treated with hypoxia, followed by reoxygenation to mimic myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury.

In the adult skeleton, the bone remodeling process involves a dynamic coordination between osteoblasts and osteoclasts, which is disrupted in diseases with high bone turnover rates and dysregulated transforming growth factor beta 1 (TGF-β1). However, little is known about how TGF-β1 signaling mediates bone resorption. Here, we described a pedigree with a heterozygous variant in TGF-β1 (R218C) that resulted in aberrant activation of TGF-β1 through an activating mechanism that caused Camurati-Engelmann disease (CED).

Background: Self-management in patients with early chronic kidney disease (CKD) can effectively delay damage to renal function. However, with the continuous spread of COVID-19, patients cannot receive timely treatment, which can lead to different affects, resulting in ego depletion and serious challenges to self-management. This study aimed to investigate the mediating and suppressing roles of ego depletion on the relationship between positive and negative affect and self-management among patients with early CKD during the COVID-19 pandemic in China.

[Research advances on the role of acid fibroblast growth factor in promotion of wound healing].

Zhonghua Shao Shang Yu Chuang Mian Xiu Fu Za Zhi

September 2022

Department of Burns and Cutaneous Surgery, Burn Center of PLA, the First Affiliated Hospital of Air Force Medical University, Xi'an 710032, China.

Acid fibroblast growth factor (aFGF) is a member of fibroblast growth factors (FGF) family, widely promoting embryonic development, wound healing, vascular regeneration, nerve injury repair, as well as regulating immune metabolism. Many pathophysiological processes, such as inflammation, neovascularization, proliferation and migration of repair cells, and deposition of collagen and other extracellular matrix are involved in the process of wound healing. Based on the relevant literature in recent years, this article mainly reviews the research progresses on the roles and mechanism of aFGF in biological signal transduction, regulation of cell growth, and involvement in tissue repair, and discusses the current research hot spots as well as the prospective future direction of clinical applications of aFGF in the aspect of clinical pharmacokinetics and safety.

Background: Complete mesangectomy and central vascular detachment are the core elements of laparoscopic right hemicolectomy. Failure to identify vascular variations in patients undergoing laparoscopic right hemicolectomy can result in unwanted bleeding, a prolonged surgical time, transfer to open surgery, and an elevated risk of postoperative complications. In this case report, we describe a new vascular variation that has not yet been reported in the literature.

Objective To establish a prognosis model using immune-related genes in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients, which could provide a theoretical foundation for HCC immunotherapy. Methods Immune-related genes were identified by differential expression analysis, and risk prognosis prediction models were established using univariate, multivariate Cox and Least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression analysis. The predictive value of the prognostic model was evaluated using the concordance index (C-index), receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC curve), and calibration curve and decision curve.
