Delayed occluder displacement following patent ductus arteriosus closure successfully managed with thoracic endovascular aortic repair: a case report and literature review.

Interventional occlusion of Patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) is generally efficacious and complications such as delayed occluder displacement are infrequent. Herein, we report a case of 24-year-old female with a history of unsuccessful PDA closures, who subsequently experienced delayed occluder displacement into the left main pulmonary artery. Despite numerous unsuccessful catheter-based interventions, thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) was successfully executed.

Global, regional, and national burden of esophageal cancer: a systematic analysis of the Global Burden of Disease Study 2021.

Background And Objective: Esophageal cancer (EC) is the seventh most prevalent cancer globally and the sixth leading cause of cancer-related mortality. This study aimed to provide an updated stratified assessment of rates in EC incidence, mortality, and disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) from 1990 to 2021 by sex, age, and Socio-demographic Index (SDI) at global, regional, and national levels, as well as to project the future trends of EC both globally and regionally.

Methods: Data about age-standardized rates (ASRs) of incidence (ASIR), mortality (ASDR), probability of death (ASPoD) and DALYs (ASDALYRs) of EC were obtained from the 2021 Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study.

RHEB neddylation by the UBE2F-SAG axis enhances mTORC1 activity and aggravates liver tumorigenesis.

Small GTPase RHEB is a well-known mTORC1 activator, whereas neddylation modifies cullins and non-cullin substrates to regulate their activity, subcellular localization and stability. Whether and how RHEB is subjected to neddylation modification remains unknown. Here, we report that RHEB is a substrate of NEDD8-conjugating E2 enzyme UBE2F.

A global analysis of dairy consumption and incident cardiovascular disease.

The role of dairy products in cardiovascular disease (CVD) prevention remains controversial. This study investigates the association between dairy consumption and CVD incidence using data from the China Kadoorie Biobank and the UK Biobank, complemented by an updated meta-analysis. Among Chinese participants, regular dairy consumption (primarily whole milk) is associated with a 9% increased risk of coronary heart disease (CHD) and a 6% reduced risk of stroke compared to non-consumers.

Belimumab versus telitacicept in sequential treatment after rituximab for refractory lupus nephritis: a real-world multicentre study.

Objective: Both belimumab and telitacicept are recognised blockers for B lymphocyte activation, both of which have been approved as add-on therapies for SLE in China. The aim of this study is to compare the efficacy of rituximab (RTX) followed by belimumab or telitacicept in a real-world cohort.

Methods: A total of 49 refractory lupus nephritis patients were enrolled from four independent centres, subsequently categorised into two treatment groups: belimumab group (n=35) and telitacicept group (n=14) based on their treatment following RTX.

Impact of leadless pacemaker implantation site on cardiac synchronization and tricuspid regurgitation.

Background: To investigate the optimization of leadless pacemaker placement and to assess its impact on heart synchronization and tricuspid regurgitation.

Results: A clinical trial was conducted involving 53 patients who underwent leadless pacemaker implantation at the Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine and Hangzhou First People's Hospital between March 2022 and February 2023. Implantation site localization was determined using the 18-segment method under RAO 30° imaging.

Impact of Donor CMV-Seropostive Grafts on Prognosis of Liver Transplantation for Hepatocellular Carcinoma.

Studies investigating the impact of donor cytomegalovirus (CMV) positivity on the prognosis of liver transplantation (LT) recipients with HCC are currently lacking. A total of 21 759 eligible LT recipients were identified in the UNOS database between January 2002 and June 2023. The patients were divided into the donor CMV-seronegative (n = 7575) and CMV-seropositive (n = 14 814) groups.

Annual report on National Clinical Database 2021 for gastroenterological surgery in Japan.

Aim: The Japanese National Clinical Database, which covers more than 95% of the surgeries performed in Japan, is the largest nationwide database. This is the 2021 annual report of the Gastroenterological Section of the National Clinical Database, which aims to present the short-term outcomes of cases registered in 2021 and discuss significant changes and insights into gastroenterological surgeries observed over the decade.

Methods: We reviewed the data of patients registered in the National Clinical Database between 2012 and 2021.

While most of the antigenic regions are found in the receptor binding domain (RBD), the N-terminal domain (NTD) of the S protein is another crucial region for inducing neutralizing antibodies (nAbs) against COVID-19.

Epidemiology of pulmonary embolism in China, 2021: a nationwide hospital-based study.

Background: Pulmonary embolism (PE) as a preventable and potentially fatal noncommunicable disease was believed to have a lower incidence in Asian populations compared to Western populations. However, the incidence and mortality rates of PE in China and the impact of venous thromboembolism (VTE) prevention system constructions on PE still lack nationwide evidence.

Significance of Multidisciplinary Teams for Patients with Oral and Maxillofacial Surgical Diseases: An Observational Retrospective Study in a General Hospital in China.

Objective: The multidisciplinary team (MDT) approach is increasingly being utilized in the management of complex head and neck diseases. This study analyzed the benefits of MDT for patients with head and neck diseases as primary or secondary conditions and categorized MDT meetings into two types: head and neck surgery initiation (HNI) and head and neck surgery participation (HNP). The study further explored the characteristics of these MDT meetings and the factors influencing patient compliance, aiming to optimize MDT treatment models to maximize patient benefits.

Microfluidic-based electrically driven particle manipulation techniques for biomedical applications.

Microfluidic chips exhibit unique advantages in both economy and rapidity, particularly for the separation and detection of biomolecules. In this review, we first introduced the mechanisms of several electrically driven methods, such as electrophoresis, dielectrophoresis, electro-wetting and electro-rotation. We then discussed in detail the application of these methods in nucleic acid analysis, protein manipulation and cell treatment.

Current Status of Sequential Treatment for Castration-resistant Prostate Cancer: A Retrospective Analysis.

Background/aim: Although multiple treatments are available for metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer, data to determine the optimal treatment sequence are limited. This study aimed to investigate the current status of drug therapy for castration-resistant prostate cancer and clarify the sequential treatment in actual clinical practice.

Patients And Methods: This retrospective study included 425 patients diagnosed with castration-resistant prostate cancer at Showa University Hospital and affiliated hospitals between January 2014 and December 2021, who were treated with any of the following four drugs: novel androgen receptor signal inhibitors (abiraterone acetate and enzalutamide) and anticancer drugs (docetaxel and cabazitaxel).

Comparison between Spectral-domain and Swept-source OCT Angiography Scans for the Measurement of Hyperreflective Foci in Age-related Macular Degeneration.

Purpose: Spectral-domain OCT angiography (SD-OCTA) scans were used in an algorithm developed for swept-source OCT angiography (SS-OCTA) scans to determine if SD-OCTA scans yielded similar results for the measurement of hyperreflective foci (HRF) in intermediate age-related macular degeneration (iAMD).

The overactivation of transposable elements (TEs) is a significant threat to male reproduction, particularly during the delicate process of spermatogenesis. Here, we report that zinc finger protein ZCCHC8-a key component of the nuclear exosome targeting (NEXT) complex that is involved in ribonucleic acid (RNA) surveillance-is required for TE silencing during spermatogenesis. Loss of ZCCHC8 results in delayed meiotic progression and reduced production of round spermatids (RS).

Global and Regional Burden of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Attributable to Low Physical Activity From 1990 to 2021.

Aim: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) contributes to the heavy burden, but there lacks latest and comprehensive global research on the burden of T2DM attributable to low physical activity (LPA). This study aimed to quantify the global and regional burden of T2DM attributable to LPA from 1990 to 2021.

Methods: We utilized data including disability-adjusted life years (DALYs), mortality, age-standardized disability-adjusted life years (ASDR), and age-standardized mortality rates (ASMR) from the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) 2021.
