Background: Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection is an important risk factor for Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), but data on the prevalence of COVID-19 among people living with HIV (PLWH) is limited in low-income countries. Our aim was to assess the seroprevalence of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) specific antibodies and associated factors among PLWH in Sierra Leone.
Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional survey of PLWH aged 18 years or older in Sierra Leone between August 2022 and January 2023.

To explore the drug resistance mechanism and gene structure characteristics of a carbapenemase-producing novel incompatibility group plasmid pNY2385-KPC from . A multi-drug resistant strain was obtained from urine samples of patients with fever in the emergency ward of Li Huili Hospital, Ningbo Medical Center. Bacterial species was preliminary identified and finally confirmed by 16S rRNA gene amplification and the average nucleotide identity alignment, respectively.

Objective: Sepsis-induced acute lung injury (ALI) is a life-threatening disease. Macrophage pyroptosis has been reported to exert function in ALI. We aimed to investigate the mechanisms of ANGPTL4-mediated cell pyroptosis in sepsis-induced ALI, thus providing new insights into the pathogenesis and prevention and treatment measures of sepsis-induced ALI.

Background: There are currently limited systemic treatment options for patients with advanced neuroendocrine tumours (NETS) and the efficacy of existing treatments is sub-optimal. We evaluated the efficacy and safety of Tegafur/gimeracil/oteracil/potassium capsules (S-1)/Temozolomide with or without thalidomide for the treatment of NETS (STEM trial).
Methods: A randomised, controlled, open-label, phase 2 trial conducted at eight hospitals in China.

Inflammation is the tissues' defense response after the body is stimulated by microbial infection or damage signals, and it is initiated when pattern recognition receptors recognize pathogen-related molecular patterns and danger-related molecular patterns. The hyperactivation of NLRP3 inflammasome, the main driving force of immune outbreaks, is involved in a wide range of inflammatory diseases. Meanwhile, growing evidence has indicated that the development of NLRP3-targeted therapies offers great potential and promise for the treatment of related diseases.

This study will analyze the clinical characteristics and risk factors that may be related to the 30-day mortality of patients infected with CRAB in intensive care unit (ICU), and explore the resistance of CRAB and its influence on mortality. From December 2012 to February 2021, 173 ICU patients with CRAB infection in the Fifth Medical Center of PLA General Hospital were selected as the research objects, and the relevant data were collected for retrospective analysis. There were 119 cases (68.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Keguan-1, a new traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) prescription contained seven Chinese herbs, is developed to treat coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19). The first internationally registered COVID-19 randomised clinical trial on integrated therapy demonstrated that Keguan-1 significantly reduced the incidence of ARDS and inhibited the severe progression of COVID-19.
Aim Of The Study: To investigate the protective mechanism of Keguan-1 on ARDS, a lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced acute lung injury (ALI) model was used to simulate the pathological state of ARDS in patients with COVID-19, focusing on its effect and mechanism on ALI.

With the advanced discoveries in the field of pathogenesis, a series of cerebral diseases, such as cerebral ischaemia, Alzheimer's disease, and depression, have been found to have multiple signalling targets in the microenvironment. Only a few existing agents have been shown to have curative effects due to this specific circumstance. In recent decades, active ingredients isolated from natural plants have been shown to be crucial for original drug development.

Background And Purpose: Moyamoya disease (MMD) is a rare steno-occlusive and slowly progressing cerebrovascular disorder. The detailed mechanism of the underlying pathogenesis is still blurry.
Methods: Tandem Mass Tag-labeled quantitative proteomics was performed on serum-derived exosomes (SDEs) extracted from adult patients diagnosed with pure ischemic MMD or hemorrhagic MMD and healthy controls.

Purpose: Donafenib, a novel multikinase inhibitor and a deuterated sorafenib derivative, has shown efficacy in phase Ia and Ib hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) studies. This study compared the efficacy and safety of donafenib versus sorafenib as first-line therapy for advanced HCC.
Patients And Methods: This open-label, randomized, parallel-controlled, multicenter phase II-III trial enrolled patients with unresectable or metastatic HCC, a Child-Pugh score ≤ 7, and no prior systemic therapy from 37 sites across China.

Background: China has a high burden of hepatocellular carcinoma, and hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is the main causative factor. Patients with hepatocellular carcinoma have a poor prognosis and a substantial unmet clinical need. The phase 2-3 ORIENT-32 study aimed to assess sintilimab (a PD-1 inhibitor) plus IBI305, a bevacizumab biosimilar, versus sorafenib as a first-line treatment for unresectable HBV-associated hepatocellular carcinoma.

Fatty liver disease associated with metabolic dysfunction is of increasing concern in mainland China, the world's most populous country. The incidence of fatty liver disease is highest in China, surpassing the incidence in European countries and the USA. An international consensus panel recently published an influential report recommending a novel definition of fatty liver disease associated with metabolic dysfunction.

Morbidity and mortality of non-AIDS-defining diseases (NADs) have become the increasing burden of people living with HIV (PLWH) with long-term antiretroviral therapy (ART). We aimed to quantify the contribution of modifiable risk factors to NADs. We included PLWHs starting ART at the Third People's Hospital of Shenzhen (China) from Jan 1, 2010 to Dec 31, 2017.

Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the association between dilation and proliferation and anastomosis of perforating arteries, and intracranial hemorrhage in moyamoya disease (MMD) patients, using high-resolution magnetic resonance imaging (HRMRI).
Methods: Adult patients with MMD at advanced stages were prospectively enrolled and underwent HRMRI exams. Dilation and proliferation of the lenticulostriate artery (LSA), medullary artery, and anterior or posterior choroidal arteries (AChA or PChA) were assessed.

Hypoxic/ischemic preconditioning (HPC/IPC) is an innate neuroprotective mechanism in which a number of endogenous molecules are known to be involved. Tuberous sclerosis complex 1 (TSC1), also known as hamartin, is thought to be one such molecule. It is also known that hamartin is involved as a target in the rapamycin (mTOR) signaling pathway, which functions to integrate a variety of environmental triggers in order to exert control over cellular metabolism and homeostasis.

The Multiple-Network Poroelastic Theory (MPET) is a numerical model to characterize the transport of multiple fluid networks in the brain, which overcomes the problem of conducting separate analyses on individual fluid compartments and losing the interactions between tissue and fluids, in addition to the interaction between the different fluids themselves. In this paper, the blood perfusion results from MPET modeling are partially validated using cerebral blood flow (CBF) data obtained from arterial spin labeling (ASL) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), which uses arterial blood water as an endogenous tracer to measure CBF. Two subjects-one healthy control and one patient with unilateral middle cerebral artery (MCA) stenosis are included in the validation test.
