Background Context: The management of metastatic spinal disease presents a complex challenge, with no universally accepted guidelines currently available. A new treatment approach, termed the "SENO" (Systemic Conditions, Effectiveness of Systemic Treatment, Neurology, and Oncology) decision framework, was developed, incorporating a 12-point grading system for epidural spinal cord compression.

Purpose: This study aims to assess the clinical efficacy of the SENO decision framework and compare its outcomes with those from traditional treatment frameworks.

Purpose: To investigate the effectiveness of a 13-week combined supervised and home-based exercise program in alleviating the symptoms of chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) in patients with breast cancer (BC).

Methods: In this non-randomized controlled study, 77 patients with BC selected after applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria were allocated to the intervention (n = 37) or control (n = 40) group. Patients in the intervention group underwent a 13-week exercise program consisting of health education and hand and foot exercises combined with aerobic, resistance, and balance training, while those in the control group received usual care.

Circulating tumor cells (CTCs) are pivotal in the distant metastasis of tumors, serving as one of the primary materials for liquid biopsy. They hold significant clinical importance in assessing prognosis, predicting efficacy, evaluating therapeutic outcomes, and studying recurrence, metastasis, and resistance mechanisms in cancer patients. Nevertheless, the rareness and heterogeneity of CTC and the complexity of metastasis make the clinical application of CTC detection confront many challenges, which may need to be settled by some practical strategies.

Studies have demonstrated that methylene blue exhibits significant antiviral activity against SARS-CoV-2 or related coronaviruses at the cellular level, suggesting its potential as an anti-SARS-CoV-2 drug. Herein, we report that methylene blue does not exhibit noticeable antiviral activity in a lethal model involving SARS-CoV-2-related pangolin coronavirus GX_P2V (short_3UTR) infection in CAG-hACE2 transgenic mice. We employed plaque reduction assays and cell infection experiments to compare the extracellular virucidal activity of the compound and its ability to inhibit viral replication in cells to those of nirmatrelvir.

Background: This study explores the potential of the deep learning-based convolutional neural network (CNN) to automatically recognize MMD using MRA images from atherosclerotic disease (ASD) and normal control (NC).

Methods: In this retrospective study in China, 600 participants (200 MMD, 200 ASD and 200 NC) were collected from one institution as an internal dataset for training and 60 from another institution were collected as external testing set for validation. All participants were divided into training (N = 450) and validation sets (N = 90), internal testing set (N = 60), and external testing set (N = 60).

Safety of local thermal ablation in hepatocellular carcinoma patients with cirrhosis and severe thrombocytopenia.

Sci Rep

November 2024

Department of Thoracic Oncology, Senior Department of Respiratory and Critical CareMedicine, the Eighth Medical Center of PLA General Hospital, A17, Heishanhu Road, Haidian District, Beijing, 100091, China.

Generally, invasive treatment is contraindication for patients with severe thrombocytopenia, because it may increase risk of bleeding. However, many early hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients with cirrhosis have platelet counts (PC) less than 50 × 10/L due to hypersplenism. These patients are often accompanied by hepatic insufficiency, which makes hepatectomy impossible, and local thermal ablation (LTA) has become a major treatment.

Dietary total antioxidant capacity is closely associated with skeletal muscle mass: a cross-sectional study.

Br J Nutr

November 2024

Clinical Laboratory Department, Lu'an People's Hospital, Lu'an237000, Anhui Province, People's Republic of China.

Skeletal muscle is of great importance for human activity and quality of life, as its loss contributes greatly to immobilisation, especially for aged individuals. An increased dietary intake of antioxidant vitamins may be beneficial for muscle loss because of ageing. However, the quantitative relationship between total antioxidant capacity (TAC) of antioxidant vitamins and muscle mass is undetermined.

Senior Department of Infectious Diseases, the Fifth Medical Center of PLA General Hospital, Beijing100039, China Department of Immunology, School of Basic Medical Sciences, Xinjiang Medical University, Urumqi830054, China.

Thrombocytopenia is one of the common complications with the hematologic system in patients with chronic liver disease, which often causes poor quality of life and high risk of bleeding, thereby affecting their diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis. Platelet transfusion can improve the patient's declining platelet count to a certain extent, but it has problems such as high price and being easy to cause immune rejection. Thrombopoietin (TPO), as an important cytokine that affects platelet production, can bind to TPO receptors and activate megakaryocytes to produce platelets.

Electronic address:

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Lianhuaqingwen (LH), a traditional Chinese medicine, presents a broad-spectrum antiviral effect and has been widely used to treat influenza. Given the potential rise of drug-resistant influenza viruses, it is necessary to develop new antiviral drugs and explore combination therapies involving LH in tandem with existing antivirals such as Oseltamivir acid (Osel) or Baloxavir (Bal). These multidrug combinations could help effectively control the seasonal influenza epidemics and reduce the disease burden.

Non-invasive lipid panel of MASLD fibrosis transition underscores the role of lipoprotein sulfatides in hepatic immunomodulation.

Cell Metab

October 2024

State Key Laboratory of Molecular Developmental Biology, Institute of Genetics and Developmental Biology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing 100101, China; University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, China. Electronic address:

There exists a pressing need for a non-invasive panel that differentiates mild fibrosis from non-fibrosis in metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD). In this work, we applied quantitative lipidomics and sterolomics on sera from the PERSONS cohort with biopsy-based histological assessment of liver pathology. We trained a lasso regression model using quantitative omics data and clinical variables, deriving a combinatorial panel of lipids and clinical indices that differentiates mild fibrosis (>F1, n = 324) from non-fibrosis (F0, n = 195), with an area under receiver operating characteristic curve (AUROC) at 0.

Background: The integration of transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) with systemic therapy has demonstrated improved survival outcomes in patients with unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, there is limited evidence evaluating the combination of TACE with the systemic regimen of anti-PD-1/L1 inhibitor plus lenvatinib. This study aims to assess the efficacy and safety of TACE combined with lenvatinib and sintilimab in unresectable HCC patients.
