Background: The risk factors for hypoparathyroidism after thyroid surgery have not been fully identified. This study analyzes the risk factors of hypoparathyroidism before and after total thyroidectomy.

Methods: We retrospectively collected the clinical data of 289 patients who underwent total thyroidectomy at the Thyroid Surgery Center of Lishui Central Hospital from June 2018 to June 2020.

Gastric cancer (GC) is the most common form of gastrointestinal cancer, with a high mortality rate and limited treatment options. High levels of NEK2 are associated with malignant progression and a poor prognosis in several tumors; however, the role of NEK2 in GC remains unclear. We aimed to explore the potential role of NEK2 in the oncogenesis of GC and in the shaping of the tumor microenvironment (TME).

Predictors of hyperkalemia after total parathyroidectomy in patients with drug-refractory secondary hyperparathyroidism.

Background: The purpose of this retrospective study was to explore the primary possible risk factors for the development of postoperative hyperkalemia after total parathyroidectomy with autotransplantation (TPTX + AT) in patients with drug-refractory secondary hyperparathyroidism (SHPT).

Methods: The clinical data of 149 patients receiving maintenance dialysis for drug-refractory SHPT, who underwent TPTX + AT, were reviewed and analyzed. Demographic data, dialysis status, and laboratory test indices were collected from enrolled patients.

Construction of a novel radiomics nomogram for the prediction of aggressive intrasegmental recurrence of HCC after radiofrequency ablation.

Objectives: To construct a precise prediction model of preoperative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-based nomogram for aggressive intrasegmental recurrence (AIR) of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients treated with radiofrequency ablation (RFA).

Methods: Among 891 patients with HCC treated by RFA, 22 patients with AIR and 36 patients without AIR (non-AIR) were finally enrolled in our study, and each patient was followed up for more than 6 months to determine the occurrence of AIR. The laboratory indicators and MRI features were compared and assessed.

Chicago sky blue 6B (CSB6B), an allosteric inhibitor of macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF), suppresses osteoclastogenesis and promotes osteogenesis through the inhibition of the NF-κB signaling pathway.

Macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) is a pleiotropic pro-inflammatory mediator involved in various pathophysiological and inflammatory states. Accumulating line of evidence suggests a role for MIF in regulating bone metabolism and therefore a prime candidate for therapeutic targeting. In this study, we showed that Chicago sky blue 6B (CSB6B) suppresses RANKL-induced osteoclast and bone resorption in vitro via the inhibition of NF-κB signaling activation and promoting proteasome-mediated degradation of MIF.

Safety and effectiveness of reoperation for persistent or recurrent drug refractory secondary hyperparathyroidism.

Background: Drug-refractory secondary hyperparathyroidism (SHPT) is the most common complication in patients with chronic renal failure (CRF). Although surgery is the most effective and safe method for drug-refractory SHPT, the condition may persist or recur after the primary surgery, and reoperation is often required in these patients. The purpose of our current study was to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of reoperation for drug-refractory SHPT.
