Role of interferon regulatory factor 5 (IRF5) in tumor progression: Prognostic and therapeutic potential.

Canonically, the transcription factor interferon regulatory factor 5 (IRF5) is a key mediator of innate and adaptive immunity downstream of pathogen recognition receptors such as Toll-like receptors (TLRs). Hence, dysregulation of IRF5 function has been widely implicated in inflammatory and autoimmune diseases. Over the last few decades, dysregulation of IRF5 expression has been also reported in hematologic malignancies and solid cancers that support a role for IRF5 in malignant transformation, tumor immune regulation, clinical prognosis, and treatment response.

High-throughput RNA sequencing of the T cell receptor alpha and beta chains for simultaneous clonality and biological analyses in Sezary syndrome.

Background: Previous investigations pointed out a role for antigen stimulation in Sezary syndrome (SS). High-throughput sequencing of the T cell receptor (TR) offers several applications beyond diagnostic purposes, including the study of T cell pathogenesis.

Methods: We performed high-throughput RNA sequencing of the TR alpha (TRA) and beta (TRB) genes focusing on the complementarity-determining region 3 (CDR3) in 11 SS and one erythrodermic mycosis fungoides (MF) patients.

Trigeminal nerve stimulation: a current state-of-the-art review.

Nearly 5 decades ago, the effect of trigeminal nerve stimulation (TNS) on cerebral blood flow was observed for the first time. This implication directly led to further investigations and TNS' success as a therapeutic intervention. Possessing unique connections with key brain and brainstem regions, TNS has been observed to modulate cerebral vasodilation, brain metabolism, cerebral autoregulation, cerebral and systemic inflammation, and the autonomic nervous system.

The role of ultrasound in predicting non-invasive ventilation outcomes: a systematic review.

Purpose: To systematically review and compare ultrasonographic methods and their utility in predicting non-invasive ventilation (NIV) outcomes.

Methods: A systematic review was performed using the PubMed, Medline, Embase, and Cochrane databases from January 2015 to March 2023. The search terms included the following: ultrasound, diaphragm, lung, prediction, non-invasive, ventilation, and outcomes.

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is common among older adults hospitalized with lower respiratory tract infection, yet information on the impact of DM on disease severity is limited. This study retrospectively analyzed 46 Turkish patients infected with respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), with information on their comorbidities, co-infection status, and symptoms. Patients are grouped into four severity levels from mild to severe, according to lung parenchymal infiltration status and oxygen level.

Background: Elicitation of patients' preferences is an integral part of shared decision-making, the recommended approach for prostate cancer decision-making. Existing decision aids for this population often do not specifically focus on patients' preferences. Healium is a brief interactive web-based decision aid that aims to elicit patients' treatment preferences and is designed for a low health literate population.

Understanding how to design engaging unguided digital health interventions is key in our ability to utilize digital tools to improve access to care. Therapeutic persuasiveness (TP) is a design concept that relates to how the digital intervention features as a whole should be designed to encourage users to make positive changes in their lives, while reducing the experienced effort required from them to engage in these activities. In our previous work, we examined the user traffic of publicly available programs, finding programs' TP quality to be a reliable, robust, and stable predictor of real-world usage; however, these findings have not been subject to experimental manipulation in a controlled trial.

The Effect of Emotion Regulation on Executive Function.

Emotion regulation and executive function are associated: adaptive regulatory strategies are linked to better executive functioning while maladaptive strategies correspond with worse executive functioning. However, if - and how - these two processes affect one another has not previously been explored; most studies have employed a correlational approach, leaving the direction of influence unknown. We aim to address this gap by using an experimental design to explore the impact of emotion regulation on executive functioning.

Purpose: Advanced imaging is essential to diagnose pulmonary embolism (PE) in pregnancy, but there are associated maternal and fetal radiation risks. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the 10-year trend in advanced imaging utilization for the evaluation of suspected PE in pregnancy.

Methods: The authors evaluated pregnant women with advanced imaging using CT pulmonary angiography (CTPA) or lung scintigraphy (LS) for evaluation of suspected PE presenting to two tertiary hospitals from 2007 to 2016.

Context: In people with spinal cord injury (SCI), infections are a leading cause of death, and there is a high prevalence of diabetes mellitus, obesity, and hypertension, which are all comorbidities associated with worse outcomes after COVID-19 infection.

Objective: To characterize self-reported health impacts of COVID-19 on people with SCI related to exposure to virus, diagnosis, symptoms, complications of infection, and vaccination.

Methods: The Spinal Cord Injury COVID-19 Pandemic Experience Survey (SCI-CPES) study was administered to ask people with SCI about their health and other experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Cystic fibrosis is a genetic disease that results in progressive multi-organ manifestations with predominance in the respiratory and gastrointestinal systems. The significant morbidity and mortality seen in the CF population has been the driving force urging the CF research community to further advance treatments to slow disease progression and, in turn, prolong life expectancy.
