Microbial reduction of Fe(III) is a key geochemical process in anoxic environments, controlling the degradation of organics and the mobility of metals and radionuclides. To further understand these processes, it is vital to develop a reliable means of capturing Fe(III)-reducing microorganisms from the field for analysis and lab-based investigations. In this study, a novel method of capturing Fe(III)-reducing bacteria using Fe(III)-coated pumice "" was demonstrated.

To investigate the optimal cultivation conditions for cassava cultivar (TMS98/0505) in Nigeria, we employed agro-ecological zoning to delineate the cultivated lands. Using GIS-based multi-criteria analysis, we researched the influence of some meteorological and soil parameters on the clone cultivation. From the multiple-parameter climato-edaphic zoning map, an average yield of 26 t ha was estimated.

Male Wistar rats submitted to 30 min of bilateral common carotid artery occlusion and 24 h of reperfusion were treated with kolaviron (25-100 mg/kg) or 20 mg/kg quercetin immediately after reperfusion and 2 h post reperfusion. At the end of the period of reperfusion, animals were scored for motor and cognitive deficits.

Vertical electrical sounding (VES) data acquired with the Schlumberger configuration is popularly used to image the electrical resistivity variation with depth at a single azimuth. Apart from the random subjective choice of the single azimuthal direction by the field geophysicists, important hydrological information such as fracture orientation and anisotropic coefficients needed for understanding resultant groundwater flow direction are by design lost in the process. Panoramic (0°-360°) azimuthal VES data were acquired at two data points at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) at angular step of 15°, making a total of 24 data sets per data point.

The aim of this work was to compare the antioxidant and angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitory properties of seed protein isolate (ISO) and its enzymatic protein hydrolysates. ISO was subjected to enzymatic (alcalase, pepsin and trypsin) hydrolysis to obtain alcalase isolate, pepsin isolate and trypsin isolate hydrolysates (AIH, PIH, TIH). Amino acid composition was similar for the samples except that TIH had lower Sulphur-containing amino acids while PIH was lower in tryptophan.

Background: Following the ban on the importation of import-dependent fed ingredients in most developing countries, the need to look inward for local content is now compelling. Thus, leaf meals that have phytogenic additive potentials are envisaged will be a viable feed ingredient in rabbit diets.
Methods: The effect of dietary inclusion of gliricidia leaf meal (GLM) with or without multi-enzyme (E) supplementation in rabbits was investigated using ninety-six 35-day old rabbits of crossbreed (Newzealand and Chinchilla).

The use of glass impinger is an important device for sampling and handling when measuring volatile organic compounds (SVOCs). Thus, it is important to check for possible analyte losses to the inner glass surface when carrying out sample analysis with the aid of impinger system. In this research, we evaluated the sorptive loss patterns of vapor-phase semi-volatile organic compounds [SVOCs (n = 10): acetic acid (ACA), propionic acid (PPA), i-butyric acid (IBA), n-butyric acid (BTA), i-valeric acid (IVA), n-valeric acid (VLA), phenol (PhAl), p-cresol (p-C), indole (ID), and skatole (SK)] on inert surfaces of an impinger in reference to sampling bags.

Adequate insights into how land degradation alters the hydrology of river basins will help forecast the hydrological impacts of land cover change dynamics, thereby providing unique information required for sustainable river basin management. This study attempts to utilize a multi-dimensional methodology involving the application of the physically based Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) hydrological model and Partial Least Square regression (PLSR) statistical model to evaluate the response of the hydrological components within the Northwest Benin Owena River Basin (NWBORB) in Nigeria to land degradation. Using the historic land cover maps of 1986, 2002, and 2015, covering the basin, the SWAT model was employed to simulate the hydrological components for each historic year.
