ZVI-Fenton, which is the combination of zero-valent iron (metallic Fe) and HO is a relatively cheap advanced oxidation process for the elimination of contaminants from wastewater. Here we experimentally tested the ZVI-Fenton reaction at pH 4 towards two crucial goals in the treatment of secondary (partially treated) urban wastewater: (i) degradation of pharmaceuticals such as anti-inflammatory drugs (ibuprofen) and antibiotics (cefazolin, sulfamethoxazole), and (ii) elimination of a considerable fraction of bacteria through a combination of acidic pH and strongly oxidising conditions. In detail, ZVI-Fenton at pH 4 achieved degradation of both primary contaminants and potentially problematic transformation intermediates.

The Offshore Niger Delta, Nigeria, stands as a dynamic geological marvel, known for its intricate processes and extensive hydrocarbon reservoirs. This study employed an integrated approach, utilizing 3D seismic data and well logs, to conduct a thorough analysis of sequence stratigraphy and reservoir characterization in the pursuit of optimizing hydrocarbon exploration in the region. The study focused on the NW-SE trending Miocene depocenters, which predominantly comprises alternating sandstone and thick shale layers within the Agbada Formation.

The study investigated the impact of Mistletoe Leaf Powder (MLP) supplementation on some parameters in heat-stressed broiler chickens. The standard baseline diets, comprising four different formulations, were provided during the starter and finisher stages. Chickens were randomly assigned to the 4 dietary groups: a negative control (CON) with no supplementation, a positive control (VTC) with 200 mg/kg vitamin C, and 2 experimental treatment groups with 2500 mg/kg (MLP2) and 5000 mg/kg (MLP5) MLP supplementation.

Objectives: This study aims to evaluate the neuroprotective effect of caffeic acid (CAF) against cadmium chloride (CdCl) in rats via its effect on memory index as well as on altered enzymatic activity in the brain of CdCl-induced neurotoxicity.
Methods: The experimental rats were divided into seven groups (n=6 rats per group) of healthy rats (group 1), CdCl -induced (CD) (3 mg/kg BW) rats (group 2), CD rats + Vitamin C (group 3), CD rats + CAF (10 and 20 mg/kg BW respectively) (group 4 & 5), and healthy rat + CAF (10 and 20 mg/kg BW respectively) (group 6 & 7). Thereafter, CdCl and CAF were administered orally to the experimental rats in group 2 to group 5 on daily basis for 14 days.

The main reason preventing broiler chickens from reaching their genetic potential and hurting their performance in the tropics is heat stress. This study aimed to ascertain how leaf powder (JLP) supplementation affects broiler chickens' performance, blood indices, antioxidant status, and gut microflora in tropical environments. A completely randomized method was used to assign 240 Cobb 500 broiler chicks to the experimental diets (6 replicates per diet, 10 birds per replication).

This study evaluated the effect of dietary inclusions of aspartame and sucrose on some selected behavioral and biochemical indices linked with Alzheimer's disease in a transgenic fruit fly (Drosophila melanogaster) model expressing human amyloid precursor protein and secretase. Flies were raised on a diet supplemented with sucrose and aspartame for 14 days. Thereafter, the flies were assessed for their survival rate, learning and memory, as well as locomotor performance, 14 days post-treatment.

The in vitro interactions of homopterocarpin, a potent antioxidant and anti-ulcerative isoflavonoid, with human serum albumin (HSA) and human aldehyde dehydrogenase (hALDH) were explored using various spectroscopic methods, in silico and molecular dynamic (MD) studies. The result showed that homopterocarpin quenched the intrinsic fluorescences of HSA and hALDH. The interactions were entropically favorable, driven primarily by hydrophobic interactions.

The insight into the binding mechanism of hesperetin, an aglycone flavanone, with human salivary α-amylase (HSAA), simulated under physiological salivary condition, was explored using various spectroscopic approaches and method. Hesperetin effectively quenched the intrinsic fluorescence of HSAA and the quenching was mixed quenching mechanism. The interaction perturbed the HSAA intrinsic fluorophore microenvironment and the enzyme global surface hydrophobicity.

In swine farming, antibiotics are often used to reduce disease and promote animal growth. Part of these compounds is not absorbed by the swine body, being excreted and later reaching the treatment systems, soil, and nearby waterbodies. This research sought to investigate the influence of adding ciprofloxacin (CIP) on the anaerobic digestion of swine wastewater.

Joint hypermobility (JH) conditions suggest dysfunction in the autonomic nervous system (ANS) (dysautonomia), associated with multifactor non-articular local musculoskeletal pain, and remains a complex treatment. This study aims to determine the effects of musculoskeletal interfiber counterirritant stimulation (MICS) as an innovative treatment of myofascial trigger points (MTrPs) on the upper trapezius muscle in JH patients. We evaluate the ANS activity by wavelet transform spectral analysis of heart rate variability (HRV) in sixty women, equally divided: MTrP, MTrP + general joint hypermobility (GJH), and MTrP + joint hypermobility syndrome (JHS).

Introduction And Hypothesis: A prospective clinical, preliminary study was performed in patients with interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome (IC/BPS) who were nonresponders to conventional treatment and received intravesical ozone as a therapeutic alternative.
Methods: Sixteen patients received six applications of intravesical ozone at a concentration of 41 μg/mL. We evaluated therapeutic efficacy by the percentage reduction of Interstitial Cystitis Symptom and Problem Index scores (ICSI/ICPI-the O'Leary-Sant symptom index), recurrence rate, nonresponse, and side effects in scores collected on admission (pre-treatment), at the end of the therapeutic protocol (post-treatment), and 180 days (follow-up) after the last ozone application.
